No licensed doctor is going to clear a fighter with that type of injury anyhow. He could risk permanent vision loss or even blindness from the blunt forced trauma. The condition would get progressively worse if he fought with that type of injury.

A detached retina requires emergency surgery. Definitely cannot fight. A retinal tear may be fixed by laser, certainly a less dangerous situation. But you do need to take care of it, or it may end up as a detachment. If just a tear probably could have still fought after laser, depending on how bad it was.

Are we assuming a surgeon will perform surgery on Spence’s eye? False equivalence. Main difference is that we didn't hear or know about a shoulder injury from Manny until after he lost and not even immediately after, but at the post fight conference with Arum suspiciously close to him.
