we all watched Canelo fail miserably in his attempt to become a legit face of the sport by losing to old floyd mayweather.
even though he clearly lost, they are still propping him up as best they can even though he failed where many of the greats in the past, and present, didnt.
in recent years,
fury beat wlad
aj beat wlad
teo beat loma
and so on. not a lot of guys fail when they are put up against ancient fighters like floyd was but canelo managed it
will Spence actually beat the old legend and became a real face of the sport and or will he fumble and drop the torch like canelo?
As a Spence fan, but more importantly a boxing fan, I agree. I expect Spence to dominate Paquiao. But it's not about actual boxing fans, it's about the appeal to casual fans.
I can only hope the idiots on Boxingscene picking Paquiao to win, don't make excuses when he gets brutally beaten up.
To them, it would be a shlt win because Pac is so old.
On the other hand, if Pac wins, it solidifies his so called ATG status.
Granted, Pac really shouldn't put up much of a fight being off for 2 years. Much credit for him going after Spence ( AFTER the Conor fight fell through).
I think Spence is oblivious to the magnitude of an event. He seems so nonchalant (high). Once the bell rings, it's all business. He will be fine and hopefully, retires Pac.
If Spencer beats Pacquiao it won't be a big deal. Floyd beat him 6 years ago and Marquez knocked him out cold a lifetime ago.

spence is fighting manny at the full WW.. spence aint coming in handicap like canelo did against floyd...
That has so little to do with the question because ahead of that is how much was the 2lb handicap to a 154 guy compared to say 2lb to a small 147 guy like Cotto or drained like Oscar and LaLonde, there is a whole debate on what was the degree of handicap as not all CW hurt somebody that's why you cannot just call a CW without also telling the degree of effect, fans can be very flippant in what they blurt out sometimes.
Then you have Canelo has more boxing ability and harder punch than Spence but Floyd has more boxing ability than Manny, so their styles are so very different.
So much fine print that people step over.
Hah that margarito fight left manny with trauma
he won’t venture beyond 147 after that
No flyweight would venture above 130 lbs but pac tried his luck at 154lbs and he did win in a brutal fashion.

Mayweather wasn't 42 gong on 43
Well spencer has alot on his side like Pacquiaos inactivity, age and size.
Aside from the "weight drained" excuse it was all common grounds for froid-culero.
Spencer definitely has a better chance than carnelo did.
The inactivity is a benefit at his age, Manny doesn't need a lot of fights to stay sharp, he needs smarter not harder training its harder on his body now and it will peak differently.
I agree Spence has a better shot because he is not against a fleet-footed defensive genius but a guy that will exchange, Manny may actually turn into a Floyd in this fight because speed and movement is his advantage, and he has the ability to shut Spence out if he can keep away racking up points for 12 rounds..
I think so.
Floyd was pass prime by then but wasn't fading in the 2nd half of fights like manny now does.
I don't think manny hurts Spence bad early on where Spence is unable to win the fight in the 2nd half.
I'd add
Floyd more skilled than manny
Alvarez more skilled than Errol
Manny now is 7 yrs older than floyd was during canelo fight
Floyd style is also less taxing on the stamina than mannys style

Canelo was 22 when he lost to floyd who was 36
Spence is almost 30 and pac is gonna be 43
I love Mayweather, but the version of Canelo he beat, is nowhere near the Canelo of today. Canelo is by far and away the best Mexican fighter of all time. Nash out - boxing expert.
