So according to Steve Kim from his latest podcast episode, Haney had a month of exclusive negotiation with Matchroom just pass and he did not receive all that much interest from Matchroom to re-sign. Now, that could be that they were not interested in signing him to what he was demanding, but he is now a complete free agent. He can obviously re-sign with Matchroom if they come back and offer him what he wants but I think this is good news in getting the Lopez fight or the winner of Lopez/Lomachenko. TR has the guys at 135 and THE guy at 140 and if that is where Haney is headed, that move makes a lot of sense. Let's be real, he is on the same side of the street as Ryan Garcia and he's just not getting that fight. Garcia could have become Haney's mandatory but chose another fight instead.
Where do you think Haney is headed to in the next few months?
I don't see why matchroom wouldn't sign him. But if they can't give him the money he's asking for then his best career choice is probably to stay a free agent.
I mean didn't say why Haney did or did not go with Matchroom over Mayweather Promotions, just that he did. PBC and Mayweather Promotions have tried a few times to sign him and he has declined their offer.
And Ellerbe just tweeted this yesterday:

right...im just saying....its prob because the hearn offer was too good to pass up....and the floyd offer was probably more realistic....i mean why wouldnt u go with a guy who is throwing money around to build his american "product" on a startup app? DAZN and hearn were printing money....to me i think that probably had something to do with it....
imo that ellerbe tweet was in response to whether or not haney would take less than 3 mil to fight tank right now.....i think if haney were to sign on with haymon and mayweather promotions that might be a different story and something they might be interested in....they could bring haney along and really build that one up......theres also the floyd/haney/tank stuff that was kinda getting juicy for a minute and that could add to it
not saying youre wrong....but ellerbe prob aint about to be out here like "yeah man we love haney we want to sign him" in public....thats not really how they do business....they legit may have no interest...but id have to think if they could get a realistic deal done ...a multi year or fight deal with haney and build him vs tank up over the next year or two they would be interested....
he "declined" mayweather promotions offer and then you say he was being overpaid by matchroom(at least i think youre implying that)....do you not see the correlation? ......3 mil for him to fight linares is pretty ridic....who would turn down that kinda deal? nobody........i think DAZN/hearn are no longer in the business of overpaying guys......they started out that way like any upstart would that needed to build something and have some recognition.....just like roc nation tried to do.....boom throw all this capital out there....established names...young prospects we can push...etc....i think those days are over now
i honestly think an affiliation with haymon makes a ton of sense...hes out there in vegas...hes friendly with floyd....looking at his facial structure i used to kid that he was actually floyds illegimate kid(they look alot alike when you look back at young floyd...just haney thicker).......soon they could have a nice little crop from 130-140 of guys like haney, tank, and colbert......and perhaps and affiliation with ennis is on the horizon for haymon too......that wouldnt be bad for any of the parties involved

Matchroom clearly failing in America
It's not surprising. The combined power of TR/PBC was always going to present a huge obstacle. Every American fighter should be wary of how long they spend with Matchroom.
i dont think haney could go wrong with either pbc or top rank to be honest.....theres opponents over at top rank....but if he comes to pbc theres an opponent there too...and possibly colbert on the come up with give them tank, haney and colbert all around the same division....i also love the possible angle of tank/haney/floyd triangle adding a little spice potentially
Exactly. Also, don't forget Cruz Gonzalez. If you are a belts guy, he's ranked number 2 by the IBF and 3 by the WBA.
yeah but think about what pbc could have with tank, colbert and haney? thats a nice little group.....i agree tank is already the biggest draw prob ....but you wanna have depth and some intriguing matchups......tank will be hard up for opponents pretty soon and the sentiment will grow that he needs some real foils......if arum keeps teo and loma away(for business reasons) they need something....having haney vs tank square off while having the winner is a whole different ball game
Look I would LOVE to see Haney on PBC if possible but PBC seem to do business just a little different, I don't think they will make him a huge offer with guarantees or anything but they will gladly give him the opportunity to make the most money possible and platforms to further build up his brand
Wouldn't even consider Top Rank and ESPN, they not even doing much with Shakur Stevenson
They already dropped Farmer. Also Hunter and Roman.
I guess their US takeover failure will be complete after they release the last of the Americans. To be frank, I'm all for it, as long as I don't see Hearn's face on American TV again, ever. It's a great thing we haven't seen him around for a little while now. Stay in the UK.

I suspected this for a while and said it on here: Hearn and DAZN were not sure about their investment in Haney. People saying he should stay with Matchroom, may not realize that Haney may not have a choice. Maybe too pricey for what he actually brings to the table. I'd think teaming up with Floyd would be more natural, since they know each other well.
I think they'll throw out Andrade and Farmer too.

I don't think it is anything better for them outside of Eddie Hearn and Matchroom...I seriously doubt PBC and Top Rank even reached out, maybe Bill has tried to reach out to let them know Devin is a Free Agent but I doubt any of them are really pursing Haney and is looking to give him big money with Top Rank already has Teofimo who is #1 at 135 because he beat the man and PBC has Tank Davis who is the biggest Draw at 135 so they don't really NEED Haney is probably what they're thinking

I don't think he wants to sign with the PBC. Mayweather Promotions tried to sign him a few times and he declined their offer. It is going to be Matchroom or TR in all likelihood. But this man was getting like 3M to fight the likes of Linares. Will TR want to get in another situation where they are giving heavy guarantees for someone that isn't a great draw? TR does have the fights he wants though.
But if he wants the Garcia fight, possibly will sign with GBP? Highly unlikely.
If he wants Tank, then he should get it guaranteed in his contract that he gets Tank within three fights or then is able to go elsewhere or gets an insane purse against another opponent.

Hearn should just let these people go.
He's destroying boxing for paying too much money.
Look at GGG. Signing him up didn't do anything for the sport.
Letting him go could have made his team still led by Loeffler look elsewhere.
If the plan is to now focus more on the global scene and less on the American scene? Then yes, he will start to let fighters like Andrade/Haney go. But Hearn thought Haney had star potential and was one of the best young prospects in the game when he signed him. Giving someone like that 3M a fight is pretty crazy though.
As for GGG, he's still a big name and was a no-brainier signing. The problem is the only reason you even think about giving him 15M a fight was to get the trilogy with Canelo as that would have been a monster subscription driver.
Andrade? Well, Hearn needed to sign someone at that point and it made sense locking up all the MW champs or top MW names.
Hearn should just let these people go.

Hopefully, he lands up on Top Rank and ESPN. They have better fighters around his weight division. We can potentially see him fight both Lopez and Taylor if he signs with Top Rank.
I'd definitely gun for a Garcia fight if I were him as well.
See, I think he can pretty much compete with all of them. He's still a very hard guy to hit consistently and has great size for the weight class. But damn man, he's going to be hell to negotiate with considering the purses he has been getting at the mere age of 21 and 22 lol.
I just don’t think he has the pop to compete with top guys, I think they’ll walk through him tbh. They’re also skilled enough to find openings too. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong but I think he’s out of his depth in those matchups.
Garcia is pretty flat footed so I potentially see Haney outboxing him, although when Garcia lets his hands go I see him having a lot of success too. I favour Garcia by stoppage but I think it’s an interesting fight and could see Haney winning on points.
