The "Mexican style" of fighting is simply take 3 shots to land 1, great cardio, good chin, wear down your opponent and finish strong. Julio Cesar Chavez who many people think is great (I think he's overrated) was notorious for that style. At lower weights against inferior competition it worked, but as he moved up in weight against "live" fighters, it didn't work so much.
When De La Hoya came along, he was the first Mexican fighter up on his toes, moving, ducking shots and using a good jab.
Was their another Mexican fighter who had defense prior to De La Hoya?
If JCC was better then DLH, he wouldn't have not won 1 round in 2 fights.
JCC was only like 32, so don't give me the past prime **** like he was 37 +
- -What grade they set U back this year?
Do you honestly think that prior to 1992 every Mexican fighter just walked forward with his hands down?
No...but I want the ones who didn't fight like that HIGHLIGHTED, hence the reason I started the topic!!
The thread starter mentioned in another thread how Eric Morales is a weight bully like Donaire lol that just says alot about his boxing knowledge.
And no, Oscar is not the first Mexican fighter to use defense.
Sanchez, Finito, and even Chavez all applied different kind of defenses.
Salvador Sanchez, JCC off the top of my head and all better than Oscar IMHO.

Its a bit misleading to say that JCC and other mexican greats had no defense, that isnt the case at all. The "mexican style" is really based on offense, pressure and willingness to take risk.
Watch MAB v Morales I and you will see a high level demonstration of very skilled technicians who are willing to take the risks that comes with going all out. There is a lot of defense in their exchanges, they arent trying to get hit, they are just wiling to take the risk of getting caught that comes with a high out put offensive focused fight. That is a lot different than a margarito or chavez Jr. And its a different mindset than a maywather who if he has a guy wobbled might still not fully commit and go for the KO.
What OP is trying to call a lack of defense is just the reality of the risk taking when you go all out in your offense you will end up leaving yourself out there to get hit back and take more damage. DLH was a mexican american who boxed a lot more rather than put on pressure, same for canelo and they get called not having the "mexican style"
Your a troll, who doesn't know what old and prime is. DLH came in against Mayweather @ 170 because he wanted to put pressure on him. DLH was 33 years old.
Nobody cares about those 200 amateur fights
That’s cause your not too bright. Ignorance is bliss ain’t it?
I guess u guys never saw any of his over 200 amateur fights. He was ALREADY past his prime over 140.
and STILL is one of the few who could lay hands on Mayweather, even FAT & OLD.

Golden Boy will be remembered for three things. Being outclassed by Felix "the journeyman" Sturm. Wearing fishnets and heels, and being very, very jealous of Ginger Boy (Canelo) Weather he did or didn't have a good defence, does not matter compared to the three things I listed above, which, in my opinion, are the only things he'll be remembered for ten years from now.
Truth be told DLH was better his 2nd fight at middleweight, I think he had to get adjusted to the weight.
well they was talking about oscar's defense to which you said he had none, so i just took the time to point out that he was giving your defensive boy floyd the business with his jab
Didn’t say he had no defence.
The thread has nothing to do with Floyd.
Thread has literally nothing to do with Floyd.

Lol thats where it comes from i think. Guys like margarito, angulo even brandon rios make it seem like they're face first fighters.
margarito had great defense you dont know sh-it about boxing
Nope.
There are plenty of examples but here is an obvious one:
De La Hoya trained for a while with "The Professor" Jesus Rivero.
And back in the 1970's Rivero trained the great flyweight Miguel Canto, who was very hard to hit clean.
