Just got around to the latest episode of Coppinger's podcast with Lance Pugmire and they announced it was their final episode because Mike's last day with The Athletic is Friday. Sounds like Pugmire is staying on but no current plans for another podcast.
No mention of where he might land, but Pugmire wanted to "congratulate on his success."
Coppinger has really raised his profile as a boxing writer lately. I'm wondering if ESPN grabbed him.
I always figured the story about Matchroom leaving the UK came from the Sky side. Its pretty common for a corporation to leak bad news out early so no one's surprised when it becomes public. DAZN and Matchroom were clearly still lining things up on their side so spilling it early to Coppinger doesn't make a lot of sense. Plus Eddie may have been hoping that Sky would come back with a better offer after the told them they were leaving.
Nah, Sky knew where Matchroom was heading far before Coppinger officially announced it. Coppinger had details of the deal that would come from someone close to Hearn or DAZN.
Please, he would take Coppinger in a heartbeat. Who do you think leaked to Coppinger that Lopez was having issues with TR and how they were trying intimidate Hearn from putting a bid on for that fight?
Hearn or someone close to him is the one who leaked that Matchroom was leaving Sky. He just wasn't supposed to open his mouth up at that particular time. Plenty of journalist/reporters are leaked stuff beforehand and are told to wait to tweet it out until they announce it but some just go ahead and do it anyways. I'm sure at that particular time, Hearn had not given Sky the final decision so he didn't want them to hear about it from Coppinger.

Hearn wanted to strangle Coppinger to death a few weeks ago for breaking the story that Matchroom was leaving Sky, said it was all a lie and then Coppinger was proved spot on days later. So I'd say that is unlikely.

Coppinger is in Eddie's pocket so he'll probably go to DeadZone.

I was wondering if ESPN was going to hire him as well when he said that on the podcast. Coppinger's agent has ESPN ties obviously but I wonder if DAZN or Triller hire him?
