This is the most cerebral opponent Canelo has faced in some time. Saunders is like a mini-Tyson Fury. I don't know what Canelo is gonna make of all the head games and antics this guy does :lol1:.
The fact that it's in Texas, a Canelo stronghold, means Saunders best chance at victory is a decisive knockout. No chance of that happening. But I can see Saunders frustrating Canelo with the histrionics, to the point that he gets him out of his game.
That leads to Saunders schooling Canelo to the point that the judges can't risk a robbery, and he gets a SD victory.
What is this with the whole "slick southpaw" narrative?
You sound like Jacobs.
The version of Canelo that fought Lara was a pale shadow of the current version.
This is not to say Canelo is unbeatable. Mayweather still beats him, even now.
But ONLY Mayweather has an easy night.
Here's my prediction. I expect this fight to look VERY similar to Canelo/Khan. Why?
Saunders cannot win if he cannot land flush. That requires him to take risks to get behind Canelo's guard. Canelo is going to wait him out and eventually - just like we saw with Eubank/Saunders - Saunders is going to gas out, and Canelo is going to end it, because Saunders is nowhere near as fast as Amir Khan. Additionally, Saunders half-asses the first half of the fight.
Remember, Kovalev was beating Canelo on the cards before he got caught.

Has Canelo fasted any slick southpaws since Lara ? What makes you think he’s so much better at dealing with that style ?
Dunno about the upset but this will not be an easy fight for Canelo. I think he wins a controversial SD.
One thing I'm sure though is that this fight will go the distance. He won't stop Saunders unless BJS has a bad cut.

Don't be a fool but if you wanna do, put up some dineros.
The difference is this.
Fury improved, vastly, from the USS Cunningham days.
Canelo has improved, vastly, from the Lara fight.
Saunders has NOT improved to a significant degree from the Eubank fight.
Even now, the only performance you can credit Saunders for is Lemieux, and that's a guy who relies on power, not skill.
Canelo might have improved but tell me one slick southpaw he fought since? He hasn’t, Nor has he had to train extensively for one until now. There is really no evidence to suggest Canelo is any better at dealing with Southpaws and fighters with that kind of movement now. Almost everyone he fought since then has stood right in front of him. Cannelo is the best in the world if you fight in straight lines against him. Give him some real angles and I think you will see a very different fight. Everyone has flaws.
No fighter is perfect, There’s always going to be a style everyone has problems with, no matter how much experience they gain.
People make Canelo is this unbeatable boxing master but he drops plenty of rounds too.
I think he’s going to struggle at times against Saunders. I think it will be a fight where they both have to make adjustments at times. It will be a high level fight in my opinion
I don’t say these things out of blind faith, I know enough about boxing not to do that. I love watching Canelo fight and really admire his skills but I think this is a tough fight for him and it’ll show.
If its true you should at least provide some sort of link to where it came from.(about Canelo in talks w saunders before fighting ggg.)
If I get chance, I’ll find some later
most of it was personal information but there might be something on YouTube. Obviously it’d be difficult to sift through all the Canelo v Saunders stuff, what with the fight on now and meant to be on last year.
anyway, I’m not saying they were at the stage of signing contracts. Just that the initial talks were about a fight at 160 against Saunders but then opting to go back to 154 instead. But for a short time, both GBP and Warren were in talks Canelo v BJS for September 2016.
it’s not exactly a far fetched scenario is it? Saunders was WBO MW champ and Canelo had fought for the WBC MW world title against Cotto and defended it v Khan.
So Saunders was the next fight they were looking at if they were going to stay at 160 for September 2016, because he was WBO Champ and GGG had the other belts. They then decided to drop the WBC MW title and move back to 154, because there would be too many questions of why fight BJS and not GGG if Canelo stayed at 160. But there was talks of the fight for sure.
He was indeed, before Canelo went down to 154 to fight Smith. They were in talks with Warren about Canelo v BJS for the WBO title at 160. Then Canelo decided to go back down to fight at 154 for the WBO Instead v Liam Smith. Both Saunders and Smith were 160 and 154 WBO champs respectively and had the same promoter. But the initial talks were about the fight at 160 with BJS before they opted to go back to the 154 route.
i know it for a fact. Just as I know BJS signed a contract to fight GGG at Expo ‘17 in Kazakhstan for June 2017, but in the end GGG didn’t sign because Golden Boy wouldn’t sign Canelo v GGG if GGG fought in the June when the Canelo fight was in talks for September 2017. So GGG’s team never signed their half and waited for Canelo.
these things are all true, I’m not just spouting half baked sentences for no reason.
I’d tell you how i know but it’s not something I’d talk about publicly but it’s all true

He signed to fight GGG twice but GGG never signed. BJS even showed his texts with Tom Leoffler to prove he had signed.
He had been in talks with Canelo before Canelo went back down to 154 after the Cotto fight to avoid GGG.
He also signed to fight Canelo last year before covid and they were one day from announcing before it had ti be cancelled.
so it’s not like he opted to do anything. He’s been a bit unlucky at times not to have huge fights already. He even went to Canada as the champion to fight Lemieux so he could fight on HBO and try to force a bigger fight.
Saunders has been his own worst enemy at times for sure, but it’s a myth he’s avoided big fights, especially when he signed his half of the deal with Golovkin and proved it.
He wasn't in talks with Canelo before he fought ggg.
I don't think so. Even if he has the ability he is ill prepared with his resume. He had a lot of opportunities to take on higher level opponents but never did. Instead he stuck with B level and domestic opponents.
He'll try and stink the place out and make it to the final bell. I don't see it being a great fight.

You know, I remember some years ago, people speaking in absolutes, saying that Canelo would never fight Callum Smith because Smith would stop him.
I also remember people speaking in absolutes saying that Chris Algieri would outbox Errol Spence.
Absolutes of people saying that Manny would knock out Jeff Horn.
Speaking in absolutes is a funny thing, really.
So how about this.
I'm 95% confident that Billy Juice Saunders takes a clear L, courtesy of the WBC Carne Franchise Champion.
As in, you will question whether he even really trained and I'm sure NSB will scream crooked judging.
I rarely speak in absolutes, maybe sometimes as a figure of speech
I'm extremely confident BJS beats Canelo, or if not, at least I feel this forum will be flooded with posts of a controversial decision for Canelo by many posters.
Just as I was very confident Fury would be Wlad, one of the few on here.
not long to find out.
It’s part of the fun though isn’t it? That we have strong different beliefs who is going to win. I have a lot of confidence in this one. I know how good he is, just as I knew how good Fury was when people laughed at the thought of him being Wlad.
Put it this way, I truly believe fans are going to get to enjoy a very high level boxing match on Saturday. I think both can bring the best out in each other. You will see the best BJS and Canelo will have his hands full

wickid sick iron mike reminds me my Nintendo 1st box set, never opened...
I believe Canelo prevails and I gotta listen to my Mexican bro in law frome on and on about Guadalajara and Mexican superiority.
war BJS
I've been out of the boxing loop for a while but I'm seeing so much hype in the comments on social media about Canelo by KO/TKO. Seriously!? Canelo, the guy who got schooled by Lara and Floyd. The guy who couldn't put JCC Jr away?? BJS has more than a chance. In fact I've got him by an easy UD but.. for obvious reasons I see him getting robbed.
Billy Joe Saunders isn't Lara. And most certainly isn't Floyd.
Not to mention that Canelo is a different fighter from those days, he improved a lot especially after the Floyd loss.

I see Canelo carrying the pace fast and forcing BJ to throw and move more than he would like. Canelo pressures fighters with his feet more than anything. He's always there slipping punches and inching forward.
Boxing doesn’t work like that though. They all said fury had no shot against Klitschko, Because he hadn’t looked great against lesser fighters. They are very similar fighters in terms of performing much better against better opponents.
On Saturday you will finally see how good Saunders really is and Canelo won’t be able to beat him. Mark my words. I honestly can’t wait.
Also Saunders has a granite chin and never been down as an amateur or professional. Canelo isn’t really a big puncher. The only people he stops are faded fighters like Kovalev, Overmatched opponents like Fielding and guys like Kirkland that got knocked out quicker by a Japanese journeyman. Even Eubank Jr did a more devastating job on Yildirim.
Cannelo never looks like stopping any real decent level opponents who aren’t shot to bits or low level. He could hit Callum Smith at will and couldn’t put him down. He couldn’t put Jacobs down even up fighters like Sergio Mora did, Jacobs hasn’t the best chin.
Absolutely no chance Canelo stops him, certainly not with one shot like you suggest.
All you wrote is valid, sound reasoning. But comparing Fury's circumstances to Saunders' doesn't work, either.
To see where I stand, just think that I won money on Fury in all his major fights (Klitschko and both Wilder fights). Well, I won on the draw by chance of course, but I had put the bulk of my betting money on Fury to win by KO even in the first meeting. I was sure that Fury was all wrong for those two.
But Klitschko and, especially, Wilder are not on the skill level of Canelo, which has greatly improved with the years.
I'm not saying that Canelo will surely knock Saunders out. That's just a wish because I despise Saunders as a man (I don't like Canelo, either, but BJS is worse). Yes, Saunders does have a chance, I have seen his talent. I give him more chances than Callum Smith for sure. Still, my inkling is that Canelo will manage to handle him one way or another.
ZERO Horse in this Race, I like Canelo more but I think it is GREAT for boxing when you get Major Upsets in the sport. I personally don't see it happening in this fight BUT if BJS can get back to that Lemieux Form then it is going to be a hell of a fight and could be a long a difficult night for Canelo
BJS has ZERO chance on the Cards though not unless he shuts Canelo completely out and scores a knockdown at least
I could see a Lara type performance with a split decision.
I could to if Saunders had a punch. Lara lost cause he chose to run more than he fought. He could of won if he wasn’t scared of getting hit.
Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised to see BJS to win most of the early rounds. It will be the second half of the fight that will be interesting.
I’ll be DAMNED SURPRISED if the English dude wins ONE round. Easy work for the Mexican. Only thing Saunders will accomplish is running a marathon inside of the ring in 36 minutes.
