Obviously everyone agrees that GGG is the most overrated boxer recently. But is his power overrated too? I noticed that despite all of his knockouts, when Kell Brook came up from 147, he couldn't drop him or hurt him. If you have devastating power as a middleweight, how is it possible not to drop a welterweight when you land clean? Did the middleweights he fought just have terrible chins? Miguel Cotto knocked out Daniel Geale just as fast as GGG, and Cotto is a small welterweight. Then he could'nt even KO Danny Jacobs who got brutally KOd by Pirog and dropped by Mora.
GGG also couldn't hurt Dervenchenko at all. He struggled to finish Murray and Lemeiux, but BJS who can't punch for shit hurt those two even though he didn't KO them.
The only guy decently skilled ggg stopped was a welterweight kell brook. ggg has never knocked out any skilled, top MWs. The rest of his KOs were against low level fighters.
Yeah, by a bit
canelo saying it’s easy to look dominant when u facing euro bums
and lol he’s kinda been doing the same thing ( tho he’s kinda earned it)
5-6 years ago Charlo, Andrade, Peter Quillen, Canelo (to some degree) all wanted nothing to do with him when he was early 30's now thats hes almost 40 they suddenly get courage to call him out lmao
He has very good power, but it's not at Wilder's level(p4p). I think where GGG's power shines is that his jab is VERY heavy, similar to Kovalev (although Kovalev has a faster and better jab), so when fighters taste the jab the are already getting hurt. Over his power is like an 8.5/10 maybe 9/10, which is very very good, but not quite at that Julian Jackson level.
If you take a look at his career, he's almost consistently shown to injure his opponents, whether it be from broken bones or cuts. It takes a lot of power to do that but as he got older, he lost the snap that he once had and of course the competition got better. It's not difficult to see how much different his punches are now compared to his 20's and early 30's.
GGG has heavy hands and clearly punches hard. Once your competition gets better, the lesser and lesser stoppages you will get. Once Crawford starts getting in with the likes of Porter/Spence/etc, his stoppages will decline as well.
Trip G always was a volume KO fighter. He landed a ton of sharp, sound, body shots and counter punches which led up to big KO's. Certainly powerful enough to lay out the "B" level fighters, he was an intelligent, come forward fighter with varied offense. If he has lost anything, it is not so much power as it is that that varied offense. He pretty much leans completely on his jab now. Lucky for him, it is one of the best jabs in boxing. Unlucky for him, it has made him very predictable an sort of a one note boxer.
I agree his power is overrated. He has better than average power, but it’s not shocking, one punch knockout power. At least not anymore.
Almost everyone who fought him said he doesn't hit that hard.
Rosado said Kid Chocolate hit harder.
Brook said Shawn Porter hit just as hard.
Canelo said Khan hit just as hard.
Dervenchenko said Charlo hit harder
I think his power is overated. But I remember everyone he fought mentioned how hard he hit so bought into idea.
But nel o took his punches like nothing. It's like you feel maybe he didn't land properly.
Which is good as it implies he's a good boxer also and don't rely on it if neccesary. I mean he out pointed nel o afterall
It's because he went on a long European tour. Canelo learned a lot from him.
Most fighters can learn a lot from Malignaggi. After all, he was the EBU European Union Welterweight Champion.
It's clear Golovkin has plenty of power in both hands. At the higher level, fighters are much better at avoiding being hit clean. You're clearly a Crawford fan, so am I, but I can say why didn't Crawford even put a dent in Ricky Burns? I suppose some will say Crawford was not at his best then, well, the same can be said of Golovkin, for a fighter of his weight, and style (all-action) he's ancient, not like a HW who fights behind his jab that can still be in his prime in their early forties like Wlad was.
Mikey went the full 12 with Spence. Nobody calling Spence's power overrated. Good point on the first part though, remind me who he was going to fight? Wasn't it Eubank Jr?
Spence's power is overrated. Adrien Broner dropped Porter too.
Eh not gonna discredit GGG because he wasn't the one asking for the fight, but this would happen to most boxers climbing up 2 weight classes to fight one of the top guys there.

Golovkin punches about the same as Paul Malignaggi. I feel like most of Golovkin's stoppages were of the UK-variety.
