The version of Gabe Rosado who showed up against Daniel Jacobs would be a tough fight, however I would certainly applaud Berlanga for stepping up that far.
If not Rosado then I think Berlanga and his team should be looking at opponents who have been in with the top guys. Without considering promotional affiliation, I wouldn't mind seeing Berlanga face:
1. Rocky Fielding (Canelo)
2. Caleb Truax (Caleb Plant)
3. David Lemieux (Billy Joe Saunders)
4. J'Leon Love (David Benavidez)
All of these fights would be good for Berlanga over the next couple fo years.
You’re right, Rosado just may bee a bit too much for this kid. I didn’t wanna disrespect Rosado by having him be the ‘man-up’ to give Berlanga the step-up he needs.
I can honestly see them digging up Angulo as a step-up fight for him as well. I’d love the Lemieux fight because both guys could really get KTFO in that one.
Correct. If anything, the hype from ESPN is bringing in more ratings and casual fans, I suppose. I despise most casual fans but I appreciate them as well because it pushes boxing.
And I can see a Steve Rolls fight or even a Rosado fight in the near future. I actually believe a Rosado fight in June in New York would probably sell a bit. I'm not sure if he'd be the co-feature or the main event, but I wouldn't argue with it.
There's a few guys on the PBC side that he could fight, but I'm not sure who his handlers are. It seems like ESPN will be his home for a while.

I wouldn't say overrated, it's too early. I think it's normal in boxing to get excited about an up and comer who is knocking out opponents with relative ease. Fans like knockouts. He's a big strong prospect. From what I have seen of him he is on the slow side, but there aren't any speed demons in his weight class either.
I agree 100%, and he's a prospect who is knocking everyone out in the first round so of course the hype is understandable.
I know he hasn't faced top competition yet but we need to remember that if 1st round knockout streaks were that easy to achieve then we would see more of them.
As for who he should fight next, I think Gabe Rosado or even someone like Steve Rolls would be a step up from his recent competition.

Why the sudden HATE for this kid? He really not doing anything wrong, all he doing is destroying whoever Bruce Trampler and Bob Arum put in front in Viral Fashion which is what he should be doing! :dunno:
What is not the like honestly? Because ESPN is building him up? That is WTF they're suppose to do, do we not want to see boxing build up new stars in this sport? When they try to build up new stars all the Miserable F^CKS show up with their "He Is A Hype Job" "He Is Overrated" instantly. He is still a Prospect, still have a lot to work on but so far early in his career he is must see TV
Boxing Needs to build up more STARS!
no hate, just a legit question.
No one really rates him. He has legit power, seems to have solid punching placement too, but as long as he hasnt shown his abilities past r1, his ability to take a punch or how he deals against someone who can take his power, you cant really rate him.
But so far, everyone at that journeyman level who works with a basic high guard and cant avoid the ropes, gets knocked out.
Hes a prospect. If he had a belt with those win or was in line for a belt than I'd say overrated & hyped. At this point he's doing what he has to do.
As a boxing fan, I dont mind a prospect being hyped. What I can't stand is an overhyped prospect thats handed a belt and then goes back to being treated like an overhyped prospect.

I don't know if he is overrated or not. You can't top KOing every opponent in the 1st round. The fact that nobody he has fought yet is in the boxrec top 100 and most of them are not even in the top 300 means he is totally unproven. he should fight anybody who is recognized by everyone as a legit top 10 168 pounder. If he wants a world title shot he should earn it the old fashion way by beating a top contender and not by beating a bunch of cherry picks who can fight, can't punch, and can't take a punch.
no doubt this kid will surpass floyd's 50-0.. just keep fighting bums.. i don't know why it took so long for him to fight his next opponent.. he could fight twice a month if he wants, just keep that level of opponents.
Not all of these guys' careers pan out like Floyd's and Manny's so, he should enjoy the hype and ratings and keep winning. Whatever the public thinks about him is just that, their opinion(s).
If he's a world class fighter, it'll show sooner than later. The same applies if he happens to be a hype job. His next step up may be Gabe Rosado in the next year or so, but we'll see.
I'm letting him cook over here!

I mean i think he is still deemed a prospect at this point in his career. I dont think being a prospect is overrating him. Still hasnt made it to contender level, let alone won a title. Little by little his level of competition will increase, just sit back and enjoy the fights.
