He'll be fighting Reggie Barnett Jr.
Barnett's record:
5-1-0-0 in pro bare knuckle
6-2-0-0 in pro boxing
3-4-0-0 in pro MMA
Corley:
51-33-1-0
Corley is 46 and hasn't been good in a long while, but he should still have enough in the tank for a journeyman like Barnett.
Corley is most famous for his WBO super lightweight title reign from 2001-2003 and his notable fights with Floyd Mayweather, Zab Judah, Randall Bailey, and Miguel Cotto. After that he became a gatekeeper, facing guys like Lucas Matthysse, Devon Alexander, Marcos Maidana, Ruslan Provodnikov, Thomas Dulorme, and Viktor Postol on their way up the ladder.
He was most recently stopped by undefeated prospect Custio Clayton in 2019.
Idk man I'm seeing the OP & just did a search & seeing other articles about this fight. It looks like he's fighting to me.
And idk how much he's getting paid for his current job or this fight, but I think we'd both agree it's probably several months pay vs his regular job absolute worse case. And I'd highly doubt he'd need or want to take off months of work for a 10 minute fight. He'd probably just train after work & it probably wouldn't be for a full 2 to 3 months. I kinda doubt he's been training that hard for many of his recent boxing matches.
In that scenario I think you are right. He would notwant to take time away from his regular job, too hard to find these days, he'd train after work, just as you suggest.
We'll have to wait and see. Maybe he worked out a way to do both and get the chance of picking up a year's wages. The guy he was going to fight is not supposed to be a heavy puncher, I think. So....Maybe...!!
I think if he was 56yrs 100k would be alluring. That's like 2yrs of truck driving & surely a year & change even after taxes.
Well, who knows, I just posted what I;d read , including direct quores",. The certainly sounded 100% sincere to me....But....what you say, if $100K is dangled in front of hs nose...??BUT. remember of that $100K he'd only come away wih half or less, would beed 2-3months training etx.. We just have to wait and see. He may make an announcement about it. Haven't seen or heard anything from him yet, except what I posted.
He sounded a really good guy with his hear firmly on straight.
It's gotta be an alluring situation as an ex-boxer with a regular job. He might be making 4k+ a month driving a truck, but he can make 100k to fight for 10 minutes or less. I mean how can you turn that down if your bank account isn't got as many digits as you want.
I understand your point perfetly. That might be very alluring if you were a young guy on his way up, and was making a choice..... But Corley is already far too old for personal c0mbat, and he knows it. He alsomhad some hard words to say about the sleazy times he had, and howhe was swindled and badly messed around by Commissions where he should have had lucrative fights being the #1 challenger which were given over his head to others he'd already beaten. That sort of thing. There isnno doubt in my mind but that he's settled in having a steady job, and enjoying the freedom of not having to scheme and wory about being swindled etc.
Of course, not being able to see into his mind, something might happen to change him completely. ho knows . As that old song goes "Qui Sera Sera"...."whatever Will Be, Will Be"....
Boxing is one of the saddest sports imo. Especially for Black fighters. For every Floyd/SRL, there's dozens of Chop Chops in the boxing world.
There are hundreds if not thousands. I recommend that you watch that very famous fight picture which has been voted #1 over the years. "The Set Up". stars Robert Ryan, who happened to be the heavyweight champion of his College the whole 4 years he was there, so the fight scenes are good, especially his footwork. You can see that he was a real boxer, not a phony like in 99% of the boxing films.
You can even read about it on the Internet. Low key, no drums and whistles, the REAL life of a washed up pro, and by far my own favourite boxing film. .

I was reading about him just last week by co-incidence. He said that he gave a thought to the offer he had for BKB but decided that earning a steady living for his family was more important and rewarding. He said he didn't seriously consider the Hare Knuckle stuff. He drives a truck and is very happy and contented with his life.
His own words.
I thought you were joking so I looked it up and holy fuckin shit he last fought a little less than 2 years ago. There's no way this guy doesn't have brain damage, I don't care well he can take a punch.
Yeah, I was hoping he'd fight Jake Paul, because then we'd see Paul go 10 rounds and humbled by an old man

Oliver McCall is still boxing, and he’s still never been knocked down.
Reggie Barnett is a DANGEROUS opponent for this one.
Barnett has scored a total of 4 knockouts in 21 total pro bare knuckle, boxing, and MMA fights. He's not a power puncher.
Chop Chop was mixing it up with Custio Clayton and Mykal Fox in his last 2 gloved fights in 2018/2019. I don't think Barnett has anything for him. Barnett is a three sport journeyman.
He's been stopped 8 times in 85 fights. Pretty durable guy all things considered.
Well he's also lost a lot of decision fights. He may be durable but the head isn't meant to be taking that type of punishment, especially over two decades. Once he retires, that CTE is gonna hit something crazy for him.
Could always be worse. I read that Danny Williams got KO’d by a former welterweight in his last fight. Can’t believe some of these guys are still going

His brain has to be mush at this point. I feel so bad for him.
