Maidana for sure out of that list. I had it 7-5 May.
Castillo won their first fight though. Funny scorecards with the Castillo fights, all three judges had the rematch 115-113 and the first one wide for Floyd even though he clearly won the rematch.
Mayweather won the fight clearly but it wasn't an easy one with Famoso, primarily because of the hand injury (although Hernandez landed 170+ punches). Mayweather himself stated it was one of his toughest fights in his career and that Famoso was a "very, very tough" opponent and that he was disappointed in that particular performance.
Oh no doubt. Clearly, the guy had one hand for 6 rounds. Floyd literally was only using one hand after round 6. So yeah, it's going to be tough no matter who you are. You just lost a hand, which you need to score points with. I don't even know how Floyd even went 12 like that. I remember how painful it was for me to punch my opponent on the top of the head. The pain was legit, a 10. And my hand was never the same after that. I kept sparring the guy but had to stop because it was such an awful injury. I did not understand, at that time being so young, that I had to stop. I thought I could keep going, it's nothing. But no, man that thing hurt like crazy. Til this day my hand still gets hurt after punching a few times really hard. I get Mayweather, Calzaghe and Malignaggi's hand issues. I totally get it. It's fcking painful as fck. And it all happens by hitting someone on the top of the head with a straight punch.
I smile a bit when I see fans speak of weak punchers or punchers who slap. Man seriously, you need to retire after breaking your hand like that. You should not keep fighting. Mayweather kept fighting but not without any drawbacks. He clearly had little to no power and had to get permission every time to numb his hands. I guess some people would do anything for money. It's like a sprinter running with a chronically injured leg. I don't know how boxers injure their hands and don't retire.
That is weird, that fight had 0 controversy on the scorecards.
Also, IIRC, the glove touching the canvas is unclear. But that was definitely a technical standing 8 count because you can't do that, pause the fight like that. So I do not think he touched the canvas, but it was a legit 8 count for the other reason. Mayweather's glove clearly touched the canvas in the Judah fight though. That should have been a KD, as cheap as it looks, a KD is a KD.
And yes, everyone acknowledges Castillo was, overall from 130-154, Mayweather's toughest fight. Although vs Maidana, he worked more for the rounds than he did vs JLC.
With that said, as eager as fans are to immediately drop Jose Luis Castillo's name in this thread, the objective of this thread is to discuss three fights in particular. Omitting JLC was done in what I assumed was for obvious reasons. There might actually be over 1,000 threads discussing Mayweather vs JLC, since 2002 when boxingscene was founded.

I think Mayweather's toughest was against a youtuber and also an MMAer.
He lost the fight to the youtuber for sure
No I think he had a harder fight against Gatti. Gatti might've landed 1 punch.
Castillo and a name not often mentioned is Carlos Hernandez. El Famoso landed on Floyd a decent amount and Floyd put a glove to canvas after busting his hand on Famoso's head.

Didn’t Floyd’s father say that he lost to De La Hoya? I could have sworn Floyd’s own dad said that in the ring. If your own dad says that, then it must be true.
Bruh I like Cotto he was good but not great, he would have been tougher in his prime, but you really think he outpointing Floyd?
Doesn't matter Floyd wasn't risking fighting undefeated Cotto
I voted DLH based on the fact he took that as the Bside. so everything was stacked against him to lose. it was a dangerous risk because he barely scraped out the win. if i remember correctly one of the judges gave round 12 to Floyd which was a clear DLH round. if that judge scores it right that fight is a draw.
I don’t know how someone would think ODH one any more than 3-4RDS tops let alone the 12th. Smh.
Undefeated Cotto called Floyd out but Floyd decided to take a two year vacation. Now we see why

Oscar De La Hoya was Mayweather's most technically difficult fight. Maidana was his toughest fight physically, only because? He had started to regress at this stage. Even after the second Maidana fight, Mayweather alluded to becoming aware of his own regression 'He gave a interview post fight, which reminded me of Muhammad Ali's interview after Ken Norton II'.
Muhammad Ali realized after his rematch with Norton, that his former style of floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee 'May have been used for the last time'. I have always thought that Muhammad Ali looked over trained for the Norton rematch, fought a good fight technically but 'Did not quite seem as robust as previous fights'.
So out of those three fighters mention, due to the physical aspect of the Maidana I fight 'That was probably his toughest fight'.
Floyd said he let Cotto hit him, that's why he got the bloody nose. Floyd said he could've beaten Cotto easily but wanted to make it fun for the fans so he let Cotto hit him.
