Looks like he is having disputes on his purse as TR is offering the minimum of $1.25M and team Lopez wants more than that.
Here is the issue. He signed an extension to fight Lomachenko and is under contract for 3.5 more years.
“We have a three-and-a-half-year contract after the fight with (Lopez),” Arum pointed out. “If they put him on their platform, he comes right back to our platform and presumably he’s got viewers from their platform and now maybe they’re interested in him.

He really lost his leverage with the extension and I doubt any other network will put a serious bid for the fight. Why would they? Lopez hasn't proven to be a star just yet and he will go right back to ESPN like Arum stated.
Lopez feels he took the risk of fighting the P4P great as a green fighter and thought it would make him big money afterwards, but that's not the case. Lomachenko and Crawford have 3M+ guarantees and Lopez is likely looking for that...But he signed his extension to get Lomachenko and now he really can't do nothing about it.
I was thinking the same thing. Two Words: Mikey Garcia
Exactly. Mikey was a top p4p fighter and lost years off his career suing tr.. a case he won but at what cost
Fighters just don't learn that Top Rank, sooner or later, is going to screw you over. It's hard to even feel bad for these guys now, if you don't learn from history you're destined to repeat it.
Yea. I dont understand why people seem to think top rank is better than the other companies.. they are the oldest and shadiest
But all kinds of folks say all kinds of things for all kinds of reasons is the point I'm making. I think folks, mostly fans, take words too seriously in a entertainment sphere like boxing.
I definitely feel like folks, maybe not you specifically idk, are downplaying what Teo has already done.
I don't for a minute believe the Lopez fam thought the world was gonna turn on a dime with a Loma W. I'm sure they hoped that would happen. I'm sure they thought it was possible. And I'm sure they are of the strategy to make everyone look like a dummy cuz you don't think Teo is the greatest thing since sliced bread. And thats cuz thats been their brand the whole way. Thats how they rolled since day 1. They aren't surprised cuz they aren't as naive as most fans about how things work.
Sure, but maybe Bob wants TR sold when he dies or before he dies or Todd won't wanna run TR after Bob dies. Or maybe Todd works differently with Bob not around. Or who knows was my main point with that. 3.5yrs is a long ass time. Maybe these mfers have killed each other by then or maybe they are bff's.
And I'm 100% positive if this relationship lasts then TR will throw out a sexy fight for a sexy purse with a extension. Thats super standard. Hell thats how Teo is in the situation now. He'd NEVER had gotten to fight Loma without an extension.
Definitely, that's why I said we will see how they end up moving.
There is no need to downplay what Teo has done. He has back to back wins over Commey and Lomachenko. I'm a big fan of his and was backing him to Lomachenko damn near 18 months ago. He's awesome. But I definitely think they felt beating Lomachenko would make him into a PPV fighter. His dad kept saying that TR is waiting for the next million buys PPV fighter and that is his son. And who knows, maybe he does get there one day, but right now he's going to have to settle for whatever he's making. If he gets a fight against the winner of Taylor/Ramirez? Or against Tank or Garcia? Then he would definitely make more than 1.25M. We are likely to hear a bunch of public displeasure from them in the next few years but they will still fight for TR and eventually come up with a compromise that makes them happy enough.
You missed the more importantly part of what I said I think.
I think we know boxing ain't pro wrasslin, but it's not exactly pro football either. There is more marketing, games & spin going on in boxing. Fans take things boxers say as biblical. They are in a extreme capitalist sphere & are trying to boost their value. Boxers are gonna say ANYTHING in some cases that garners them more attention. More attention gets them more money. That's the game at the level Teo is out. Winning fights is one part. Selling oneself is another part. And getting what you are worth is a whole other part. There is so much more in play than fans wanna talk about for the boxers or anyone with skin in the game.
Again idk how this keeps getting spun into a negative lmfao.
"Your fighter of the year...so what". "Your making more per fight than most guys will ever make their entire career at age 23...borrrrrrring".
And anyone wants more. That's kinda how life is for everyone I'd argue. If you ain't got a car you want one, if you got a car you want a new car, if you got a new car you want a new better car & eventually we get into Lamborghini's & other exotic vehicles as we move up levels of wanting more til you now got the perfect car for you, but now you want a boat too.
It's definitely more than the minimum.
Oh I'm not saying it's easy to be clear. I just don't know if there are outs before the 3.5yrs. And if there are they may or may not be worth exploring.
And sh^t man who knows Bob might die & TR might get sold off to someone & the whole TR rep we know today might change completely so Teo might not wanna leave in a year or three. That's all speculative obviously but with the assumption nothing changes.
Who knows what the reason is for both of them saying they don't want the other young 135 pounders, but it has been repeated by them multiple times. Sure folks in boxing always say stuff and do the opposite but let's see how they end up moving.
When did I say it is a bad thing that Lopez is getting paid 1.25M and won FOTY? I'm saying THIS is not what they expected after beating Lomachenko. They were assuming this was going to skyrocket them in terms of popularity and allow them to call all the shots. But the fact is that Lopez has not done numbers on any show he has headlined so it is yet to be determined if he has become a big star or not. TR sure isn't putting Lopez on the level of Crawford/Lomachenko just yet.
I mean even if Bob passes, Todd will be running the show and he does more of the day to day operations right now as it is. A lot can happen in three or so years. I bet if Lopez proves he can draw, his minimum will go up but TR may add another year or so to his deal.
Come on man we ain't quoting Teo Sr for logical takes now are we? This mofo been saying crazy sh^t since day 1. We expecting reasonable takes from him now?????
And more importantly I think fans can't see the forest for the trees with what boxers & their teams say publicly. I think there are games within games being played with what folks say publicly. Bob is the king of that sh^t in fact. Others are playing that game too.
I don't understand anyone saying it didn't take him to another level. Guy was fighter of the year ffs. And like I've said over n over how many 23 year olds without an Olympic medal have had $1M per fight minimums??? And I'm not talking currently I mean historically. It's not a lot of them is all I know.
And no doubt a boxer is likely expecting more, but fook these guys been through enough previous to this situation to know your hope & the reality almost always has a nice gap between them.
Sure, but they aren't without leverage. I guarantee you that's why Loma is getting dismissed so casually. I have zero doubt if the right number came up they'd fight him without a second thought. But currently that's one realm where they got leverage so they are using it. All boxers got some leverage. It's usually just a question of if it's worth using, if the juice is worth the squeeze. In Teo's case it is although he needn't go too hard or else he could find himself Mikey'd, in Bud's case it's not...or at least not yet.
Again sure, but this is just one fight. Teo might take a few L's to TR before he can get into a better position.
They are already being smart in the slow climb to independence by starting a promotion. That should get more money coming their way & helps insure Teo is setup well when he gets an out or he's 26, 27 & the deal ends. Hell he should even prepare a break towards the end of the deal cuz it's a solid bet in his last year or so he won't get a fight offer that doesn't include an extension cuz that's the standard promoter hustle.
I mean if you don't want to take Sr's word, Jr has said similar things.
Getting FOTY and become a superstar are two different things. I agree, getting 1.25M at his age isn't bad at all. But clearly they are expecting far more than that.
They may or may not fight Lomachenko again and I'm fine with either decision. And sure, there could be a number for them to give Lomachenko a rematch. Surely it will have to be significantly more than 1.25M.
It depends, as Mikey explained, it is not that easy getting out of that TR deal. They put extensions on fighters for certain fights and for certain amount of title fights. If Lopez can be free at the age of 26 or 27? Great, and more power to him.
I highly doubt the Lopez fam thought the doors to the safe with all the gold in it would open immediately upon a Loma W.
I mean this is still TR. TR didn't open the safe for any of their previous big names for awhile past when they deserved it & I'm not sure they ever opened it very often for non-in house fights.
I don't think the Lopez fam are that naive & I know his manager David McWater isn't. I do think they are from the same Speak It Believe It Receive It family Deontay & others are on. Thus they are going to openly speak what they believe they should receive.
I don't doubt he has a good manager but his dad literally said a few days ago that wins over Haney/Tank do NOTHING for them.
Trust me, they thought the Lomachenko win was going to take them to a whole another level. And while it did to some extent, just not the extent they were anticipating. And they should have known when they signed that extension, they were going to be at the mercy of Arum and TR. When you have 3.5 years left on a deal, you aren't going to be able to take things publicly nor are you going to be able to hold out to get what you want.
Arum also knows it is highly unlikely another network/promoter bid for his fight vs Kambosos knowing it isn't a huge fight and Lopez will be returning to TR right afterwards.
Fighters just don't learn that Top Rank, sooner or later, is going to screw you over. It's hard to even feel bad for these guys now, if you don't learn from history you're destined to repeat it.
Lopez needs to go see the best lawyer he can and except no more contract extensions period and now he must assume the worst from his current promoter and get the Fock out ASAP he needs to do whatever Floyd did or similar he just needs to gtfo from top rank also he will need to play the game sometimes you have to give a little to get meaning play with the promoters
How much longer was his deal with TR if he wouldn't have signed an extension to fight Loma I wonder?
If it was a couple more yrs it was probably worth it.
And sh^t without Loma Teo ain't the Teo he currently is.
That I don't know.
Here is the thing with Lopez, he literally has not headlined a big card yet where TR can see just what type of draw he is. The ratings for the Lomachenko fight were amazing and the main event averaged a MILLION more than Crawford/Brook so you have to give Lopez his credit for contributing to that rating.
I think once Lopez is able to show he can draw heavy, then he will starting getting a big pay raise. Right now though? TR has all the leverage in the world and can slow play this with him.
Team Lopez thought if they beat Lomachenko, they would be the biggest name in the sport. But that's not how it works. As good as Lomachenko is, not like he is a huge name or anything or can that does huge gate numbers. He's a good name a hell of a fighter.
This isn't like Mayweather or Pacquiao beating DLH and then going from star to MEGA STAR. If Lopez beats Tank, then I bet his name value would rise tremendously.
And the hardcores getting a little tired of all his talk about NOT fighting people...
I'm one of those that I really don't wanna mention him much anymore.
It doesn't really seem like it did much for him, either money or popularity wise. Lopez is still virtually unknown, beyond the hardcores.

No Surprise! Promoters are Brilliant with those "Kicker Clauses" in contracts and it goes something like this: "I Will Get You This Big Fight, But You Will Have To Sign An Extension" sometimes they try to sneak it in the contract and most fighters and their team don't even catch it
https://bensbitterblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/11/carrot-on-stick.gif
Mikey Garcia broke this down when explaining that every time he would fight somehow his contract get extended. It was always "Well You Have 1 More Fight With Us On Your Contract"
I think Teofimo and his father screwed up by running around claiming they was going to make $10 Million in their next fightI was thinking the same thing. Two Words: Mikey Garcia

Isn't that what he said? That he was gonna fight him in Australia for that much. Even though i know those plans fell through. I know hes asking 10mil for haney
He might accept a lot less the way things are going...
Lol hes gonna go on a 3 year rant.
If he really thought he'd get 10mil for ****in kambosos then hes delusional as ****. Hes the champ and the number one guy in the division but hes still less popular than ryan and stank
He's not asking for 10M for Kambosos.
