We heard about Deontay Wilder's issues going into the Fury rematch and I thought there was a certain amount of visual evidence to support his claims. It seemed he was having difficulty balancing and walking properly when the costume came off during the ring announcer introductions. Wilder paced back and forth with his head held low, seemingly nervous, discombobulated and a far cry from his usual confident and menacing self. Just didn't seem right to me.
However, it's not widely known that Fury's victory over Wladimir, and Lopez' victory over Loma were apparently under similar circumstances! In this interview from last year, K2 promotions head Alex Krassyuk explains:
"I can remind you about Wladimir Klitschko fighting Tyson Fury. He was an absolute favorite before the fight. No one could even imagine the fight could go that way. But some things besides boxing, personal, some coincidences the day before the fight and on fight day, took place. Negative for Wladimir and positive for Fury. These things brought them to an equal position for the short period of 47 minutes for the fight.... With Vasyl Lomachenko it was something similar in the Lopez fight, because he had his injury in training camp..."
Loma clearly showed in the back half of the fight he could have won but even then the scorecards were brutal. He beats Lopez in a rematch IMO but we'll never see it.
I think Loma showed in the fight itself that with some adjustments he could have won - it was a somewhat close fight as it was. I can buy the "off night" excuse in that case.
I don't know about Wlad though. I think the version of Fury that showed up to fight on that day would have had Wlad's number no matter what - having to chase after a guy who was taller and had longer reach and also superior footwork was just something that he was never going to be able to prepare for well. I don't think "he had an off night" accounts for him clearly losing pretty much every round, as if he was going to win otherwise.
I don't think Wlad made any excuses. He was 39 years old, and not very interested. Stewart was not in his corner and fought the wrong fight.
A prime Wlad would have out Fury out. Fury fans think it's hidden that two non punchers floored him, another hurt him and he probably lost to a fat John McDermott. He was also BUSTED on PED's later the fight before Wlad, meaning he was probably on something for his title fight.
An old Wlad and a 35 year old Wilder who can't fight / take punch are Fury's resume. That's it. Pretty thin if you ask me and his other title defenses are jokes.

Fury himself said he wasn’t really in a great place even in the Wlad fight.
Lopez was carrying an injury and won.
Who cares anyway? It’s sport. They got beat by the better fighter on the night.
A 6’9 guy with Fury’s skill set was always going to give the predictable Wlad with his 3 punch arsenal problems. Hence why I picked Fury to win.
A big young 135 lbs fighter with power and ability was always going to give Loma problems, based on how Loma looked at 135.
Sometimes you just run into the wrong fighter. That’s all that happened. Both Loma and Wlad had their own styles which they never really deviate from, which is fine until you meet a fighter that could deal with it, then you don’t have a plan B.
The never ending list of excuses for losing fighters and their teams are so pathetic. I was fully confident Fury had Wlad's number and bet £1000 on him at 7-2 to win, winning £3,500 profit.
I had a lot of money on Lopez beating Loma, I posted this before the fight.
I have a long betting history of winning over 8/10 times betting on the underdog that I favour, covering myself with the draw.
People can claim Wlad was finished, which is nonsense, as 18 months later he fought as good as he ever has against Joshua, the fact is, when you look at Fury's skillset, He's an absolute nightmare for Wlad, who likes to fight in a certain rhythm, which Fury would never allow.

wlad had issues because he wasnt allowed to hold the entire fight. not fair!!! the german rules of boxing clearly state wlad is allowed to hold 229 times like he did against povetkin. you dont break the compuclinch record for nothing! fury fought a deceiving conniving fight where he moved around and didnt let wlad grab him constantly. apparently in german courts a boxing fraud case is still moving though the courts to overturn the result and install wlad as the champ. good luck wlad! good luck trump! the real winners!
In the world of boxing, only Tyson Fury is allowed to have valid issues. This is not a slight at Fury, but this seems to be the reality some people live in these days.
Note: I am mainly referring to the Kiltschko fight, as Fury I believe beat Wilder with zero excuses that could be made 'Fair enough the fight in my opinion as stopped early, but make no doubt about it? Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder.
If you've got a problem, by all means pull out of the fight.
At the end of the day, if you touch gloves then you're right to go. People have off nights, and that's why long reigning champions are both rare and special.
