He is boxing undefeated Maidel Sando on 2/20. For the non mma fan, the promotion Collard will be fighting mma is offering a 1 million dolllar grand prize to the winnern of the tournament so makes sense for him to try it.
They said on commentary during his last boxing match that he had signed a contract with an MMA promotion and his next fight would be in MMA, but he would still try to box as well.
Has he said anything to indicate that he'll be solely an MMA fighter and not a boxer?
If not, I'll have to assume he's doing both. It's not unheard of for athletes to compete in multiple combat sports or sports period.
He is not very good and has no potential to be a contender. He is good enough to make a modest living boxing but not good enough to make big money boxing.
As soon has he started talking MMA during an interview before his last fight, it's like talking about retiring, the old one foot out the door and they lose.
I remember people trying to hype him as something he wasn't but he is a fun fighter. I wouldn't mind seeing more of him somewhere on another Top Rank card.
He was a seriously small version of Kownacki for a comparison. By no means a world beater but all action all the time. I wouldn't mind seeing him fight on a regular basis either. Good stuff test for any up and comer in the weight class.
Because it's a more recent sport, so they set up the weight classes to be more representative of the time period.
People are larger and heavier now than they were 100+ years ago when boxing weight classes were developed.
Ah yes that sounds logical. Guess they don't want people cutting as much and I've heard they have stricter regulations than boxing around weight cutting for the fighter's health. Not sure if that's true since I obviously know nothing about MMA, but thought it was interesting.
Why are the MMA weight so vastly different? It's weird. 155 pound lightweights, 170 pound welterweights etc.

During his last match I wanna say they spoke on the telecast that he was only boxing because it was less regulations during the shutdown. I think he was a fun fighter to watch but chooses MMA over boxing. Just his preference I guess.
