He might never be a legit threat to the top 10 but showing up in shape, with even the most rudimentary skills, might take you pretty far these days. I hope he makes some money. Anybody with the balls to launch a pro boxing career after age 30, with almost no amateur background, has my respect and support.
Coffie could be legit, the dude seems like a prodigy where not much experience as a boxer but seems so natural at it and seems to get better in each fight!
It’s a shame he never picked up the sport much sooner so we could see how he could’ve truly flourished!
I think he should aim for a washed up former world champ next like Stiverne, or washed up former veteran contender like Arreola an if he destroys them then let’s see him in with the Hyrgovic’s, Dubois’, Chisora’s, an Molina’s of the world!
Strong, smart, ability, and he can adjust, he could do something!
Stiverne is 42 years old. They need to stop giving him fights before someone kills him.

Definitely. If you look through his older fights you can track his improvements and it's like he gets twice as good as the last one and figures a lot out on the job. Usually when the commentary team is talking up a guy for how smart he is, or talking about their out of ring activities, it's because they have nothing better to say to fill time before said journeyman gets battered. Coffie really does seem like a very intelligent and interesting fighter and I'd like to know more about him and look forward to seeing him fight again.

That could only happen in this era of trash heavyweights. Lol thats ehat i was laughing at earlier
People have been saying that for 50 years..that I’m personally aware of, probably a lot more.
Ron Lyle and Chuck Wepner were the Washington and Coffie of their day. In the HW division, sometimes physical strength and toughness can substitute for a certain amount of skill. You won’t see that in divisions where fighters watch their weights like beauty pageant contestants.

I saw the battle of undefeated USA heavies.
Rock vs Coffie
Rock was a top amateur heavyweight. Now he's a sloppy pile of goo. Very limited, mediocre power at best. Coffie put him down for the count easily in the third. Rock, please retire.
As for Coffie, there are some things to like. He's a smart young man, X Marine with good skills. At 270, he's not fat, but he would be much better off at 250. Speed is not his thing, but given the state of USA heavies, he giving himself a chance for a bigger money fight at age 34. If he's very durable, you could call him a poor man's Jamel McCline, meaning I doubt he'll go far. These days he's perfect for a bogus title defense.
I like him. Took up the sport late, two active tours of duty, well spoken and extremely smart. Did you watch the post fight? He broke down everything. He mentioned that when Rock shuffled his feet to throw a punch, the timing didn't line up; and also that he was leaning on him, so he was looking for when he would lean in on him, and shuffle his feet so he could time that uppercut. That's fantastic boxing IQ for someone who just took up the sport. He's earned my respect, and I hope he goes far.
Thats what you think of coffee? Lol saying he could be the next average fight
Average? Seriously if you think Washington had an average boxing career I think your perspective is seriously skewed.
Washington also began a boxing career after 30. He fought for a legitimate World Title. Washington had a multimillion dollar career in a sport where your “average” athlete struggles to earn 6 figures in a career.
Sure, anybody can turn pro at 30 but it doesn’t mean you are going to have a winning record or even fight in a main event let alone for a world title.
I like Coffie, though he’ll likely never win a legit world title I hope he can get some big fights and have his share of successes in them. I hope he makes enough money to buy a nice home and put some money in the bank. I think that would be remarkable, many levels above average.
He got a lot of time to think about what he wanted to do overall....but there were some sequences where it looked like he was truly improvising, the way he stepped and threw some of his punches was pretty nice; short compact shots. A left uppercut leaning back, that was awesome
that was my first time seeing him, I'll definitely be watching from here on, it'll be fun to track how far he can get. not sure what it will look like if someone comes out and sets a fast pace against him though
Man I was gonna bet on Coffie by KO but someone convinced me otherwise due to Rock's amateur experience and age. I couldn't find any tape on the kid but trusted this dude. Always go with your gut. Usually I back the underdog with close odds but Leo really soured me on that last week. Ah well...
Always go with you gut feeling!

This is the second time watching him fight and I completely agree he doesnt look like he just took up boxing. He seems to have a natural feel for it and some serious power, that uppercut was phenomenal
