People talk about how much Canelo's "improved" since the Mayweather and Lara fights. About how "slick" he is, how great his defense is, how he now knows how to cut off the ring. I think it's bull****. He has carefully handpicked his opponents by intentionally fighting guys who can punch hard, which doesn't phase him the way guys who can move do, like Lara and Floyd. GGG, Kovalev, Smith, and even Jacobs, are slow and plodding compared to Floyd and Lara. These guys are tailor made to make Canelo look fast and slick. I don't believe the smoke and mirrors.
For you Canelo fans, I will admit this - Billy Hoe, who I can't stand, is better at fighting off the back foot and moves around the ring better than other recent Canelo opponents. Not as good as Floyd and Lara, but better than all those other guys.
So this will be a good test to see if he's improved. Can't just win though, has to be a dominating performance. Gotta show that he's really learned how to cut off the ring.
If Canelo dominates this fight I will admit that he's improved. A close decision won't work, BJS isn't as good a fighter as Lara, so he's gotta dominate.
Oh look its the pro black racist race baiter again.
You’re a racist a joke a fake ass boxing fan that bashes anything non black.
Ban this worthless pos.
I agree with this.
danny jacobs is a slow plodder now? since when..
Ugh, you're the second person to misquote me now on that one. I said you can even say he's not that good off the back foot compared to Lara and Floyd, not that he's slow or plodding.
It's not that those guys are bad fighters, they're great pressure fighters. Problem is pressure fighters were never cannel's weakness, they were his strength. Those are easy fights for him. what he can't handle is guys who can fight off the back foot. GGG and Kovalev are absolute **** at fighting off the back foot. Jacobs is so so, but nowhere near a Lara or Floyd. Andrade and Charlo can fight off the back foot much better than Jacobs.
- -Turned Lady Lara into girly boy. TBE TUE 51-0 needed Bayliss to beat him.
U in wrong sport. Maybe curling more U style.
Maybe Tenshin reruns too!
Its funny. Apparently fighters aren't in their primes anymore being a world champion 23, 43-0, and 8 years of experience in the pro ranks. Only if they fight Mayweather that is.
Yes, Canelo has cherry picked alot of his fights. Cotto, GGG and Kovalev were both past their best years. Amir Khan came up two divisions and it still took canelo 6 rounds to finish him off. He chose to fight Rocky Fielding while giving his belt to Jermall Charlo. His best win, against another elite boxer in their prime, may be Callum Smith.
So you don't think current Nel o stops 40 year old ssm?
Nel o didn't look good against lots of fighters back then. Nel o wants to show he's improved against floyd. But lil floyd don't do rematches and never wants 2 wins over fighters.
Talk the truth for once you imbecile, dont do rematches he rematched the only 2 controversial wins in his career .
How do you just straight up lie the way you do .
Canelo has clearly learned and improved, the guy is a very hard worker, disciplined and lives in the gym..gotta give credit where credit is due
Completely agree...
I'm holding you to that. It's time we start holding people accountable for ****. Which is fine, I'll hold myself accountable. I said that if Canelo dominates Billy Hoe, I'll admit that he's improved a lot. But if he doesn't then you gotta admit I was right,
I’ll always admit if I get it wrong. Just look at my Canelo-Smith prediction thread. :lol1:
He’s definitely improved as a fighter IMO though. He’s physically a lot stronger and his ring generalship has come on leaps and bounds since Mayweather took him too school. Even in the Lara fight he cut the ring off far more effectively than he did against Mayweather. That’s development right there. Even look at the improvements made between the two GGG fights.
Have you ever watched him up close? He’s one of those fighters who looks a lot better in person IMO. I never thought he was that special skill wise but after watching him in person a couple of times it’s really changed my mind.

He’ll stop Saunders.
Canelo has massively improved, his ring IQ is excellent.

Lol. Kovalev, Jacobs, GGG were all bigger guys than Canelo. It’s typical of Canelo fans to just specify one type of opponent. To be on the P4P requires universal skill above average elite fighters. Kovalev and GGG were P4P.
And regarding the 90’s. He probably would’ve surpassed Tyson or RJJ because there was no random and advanced drug testing back then. Meaning Canelo would’ve been allowed the steroids from Evan Fields, RJJ, Toney. :)

Canelo wasn't even a top 10 P4P fighter when he fought Mayweather. His best win was the very close Austin Trout fight.
Golovkin would have decapitated that version of Canelo.
People who think Charlo and Andrade beat Canelo are straight up dumb.
I understand totally there is a racial dynamic in play, but seriously guys?
Hate on Canelo all you want, he is levels above those guys and has the best resume of any current fighter.
I'm not even a Canelo fan, but it is what it is.

Alvarez would of been blasted out by many middleweights in the 90's 'I am not fooled by him wading into the division these days, from Middleweight to Light Heavyweight the landscape has weakened'.
Alvarez is a not a all-time great middle weight, deep down you know this.
Canelo Alvarez is a great fighter, but for me? He is not proving his greatness by colliding with other greatness etc

We wont see it until he fights a mover again but from what I see, he has improved his ability to cut off the ring and is much more comfortable pressing on the frontfoot than he was early in his career. His body punches are also sharper which slows down guys with quick feet.
Regarding saunders, he is still way too flawed.
Someone who regularly fades against opponents who arent even good at wearing you down has no shot against canelo at all.
As soon as he cant move around the ring anymore and is forced to become more stationary, he gets beat the **** up.
You don’t know what gears are. Lol. Have you ever sparred? Canelo is a king of sparring. If you knew, the limited visibility is a challenge for anyone. You think Canelo is guessing “gears” when slipping and dodging multiple offensive assaults? That’s years of experience studying opponent body movement. Why is this even debatable. “Not have many gears” lol. Yet his accurate compu box, style, defense puts people in awe. As if Canelo’s upper body movement is just guessing. Canelo haters are among the dumbest in the sport. Spence and Charlos look robotic compared to Canelo
His competition has gotten worse, I am not fooled by him facing bigger 'Less talented fighters'.
Who is he fighting? Guys like Callum Smith are just big guys, they are not really talented fighters technically.
There are no fighters active in the sport today, who are operating on the level of Mayweather, Roy Jones Junior or Bernard Hopkins 'There are good fighters active, but the abilities that are being shown are just a level below the past great fighters'.
Alvarez is just at that level below.
Note: There is no way in the 90's, would Alvarez just be able to wade into the middle weight divisions 'He can do that now, because the competition is poor'.
