Can any fighter in current boxing end up becoming the Greatest Of All Time?
If so who?
1) From your own perspective
2) From a public perception standpoint?
Who do you think has the best chance at doing that?
I doubt it is possible for any boxer to become the GOAT because who is the GOAT is just opinion and not provable fact. Pro boxing with gloves has been going on for about 130 years and a hell of a lot of great fighters have come and gone and no man alive has seen all the great ones fight. Right now there is not agreement on just who is or was the GOAT. Some say SRR, some say Ali and many say some other fighter was the GOAT. So how good would a boxer have to be to make everyone agree he is the GOAT? No boxer has ever done that and I doubt any boxer ever will. I think we have some great fighters fighting right now but none near good enough to make everyone agree they are the GOAT. Mayweather and Fury both say they are the GOAT. Sorry boys but neither of you are even close to being the GOAT. Just saying you are the GOAT means nothing. ALL boxing fans and experts are the ones to decide who is the GOAT and they don't all agree and they never will.
Great answer

Really only Pacquaio has a chance because of the whole going from 108-154 and being the only man to win the 147 title 4 times thing going for him.
Canelo has to many dubious "victories" & PED allegations to be a GOAT, but he is a hall of famer and can be an ATG
Other than that, no, because fighters don't fight enough and don't fight hard enough great fighters in a career to be considered like Robinson, Ali, Pep, Armstrong, Greb, etc. . .
No.
Now thats not to say one shouldnt, but unlike other sports so much of boxing is anecdotal (as opposed to stats that support an individual's accomplishments). So no matter how much a guy wins or how good a fighter is, the curmudgeon get off my lawn crowd can always claim fighters were tougher back in the day, when society was more difficult and made men tougher. And thus the greats of yesteryear will always be better, and thus the GOATs
Add in the fact that fighters like Greb, SRR, Armstrong, Langford fought far more often, allowing for more impressive resumes- and you see why the GOAT in boxing is firmly entrenched. Though someone may come along greater, they wont get the full recognition as such
Agreed. This is exactly what I was getting at when I made this thread. Well said.

Canelo Alvarez has the chance 2 be an AtG and GOAT status if he runs the table. Fighting champions
BJS
Charlo
Andrade
Plant
Bena
Maybe Bivol
Spence
Berlanga
And maybe another 3 or 4 fights. Only losing possibly 1
Canelo goat ? fkn lol
Canelo has the Mayweather loss and 2 close GGG fights. He also failed a drug test which makes it almost impossible for him to be considered the best ever
Lets play devils advocate and remove our bias here.
The greatest have all lost. Hell, some people may find greatness in that loss since he dared that young and even though it didnt go his way, he only became more impressive after and it did not damage his psyche. He was also exonerated by the same people he “failed” the test from but people only like accepting the part of the story that they like. If we accept the failure by them, we should also accept the exoneration. And almost every great fighter has needed those close fights against men as good as them.
I think he has the best chance right now and the opposition in range. We’re just hating if we can’t admit that if he becomes undisputed and fights some of these guys and wins that we have to start talking about it. He’s already reaching really rare heights.
Pacquiao has a decent chance because he has Bud and Spence in range. It would be nothing short of absolutely insane if he pulled that off. It seems way too unlikely though but it’s possible
I really can't see fury reaching that status. Beating an old Klitschko and idiot wilder doesn't mean much. Not to say he doesn't have skill but this era of hw is trash
He won't have the names but if he can convince people over time that he would be a hell of a fight for anyone I'd take that. Accomplishing that in a "weak hw era" where Ali and others are so ingrained in the minds of people as the GOATs would be a feat.
None... The last potential boxer (Mayweather) already retired and attained the status... He's now fighting personalities outside boxing in order to extend his greatness outside boxing...
Crawford beats Pac then Spence. Moves up wins belts at 154 then beats Canelo at 160. Not saying he's gonna accomplish all of this but he would be up there for me if he did.
oh yeah - if Tyson Fury establishes more credibility with a long run as HW champ, then I think he becomes a very difficult mythical matchup for any HW in history. HW division tougher because anyone can go and people don't think much of the competition in its current state so he probably will not have the great names on the resume as other ATG's but matchup wise, he would be tough
