It's simple biology, most adult males aren't as small as the weight classes that Pacquiao held belts at. Meaning that TALENT POOL is wider/better in boxing for fighters in the weight classes between 147-175.
For example if your a flyweight or bantamweight boxer, the talent pool you'll have to face is inferior to a guy who fights at light-middleweight. I call them the RUNT weight classes.
Do you think Hearns winning the belt from 47-75 a bigger feat then Pacquiao winning the belt from 112-147?
Even if they make a 100 belts per division there's no another boxer can become 8 division champion in the next 100 years.
Paquiao beat Margarito @ 151...beat Cotto @ 141, he's really not an 8 division champ.
The only reason I give Pacquiao credit is because he is good based off the eye test.

I think so for the reasons you mentioned. Hearns was still really good after his huge fights with you know who. He really spanned two generations of fights. A legend.
as long as the whole world knows he's a 8 div world champion.. then so be it.. you cannot discredit a man for what he's done.. unless you and yourself broke his record.
Pacquiao is not an 8 division champion. We've had this discussion. Honestly, even calling him a six division champion is a farce considering he didn't have the balls to fight at 154.
Pacquiao's belt at 154 shouldn't even be counted as a title belt. He fought a depleted Antonio Margarito at 150 when Margarito was never even a top fighter or contender at 154.
Hearns beating Benitez at 154 and Virgil Hill at 175 is far more impressive than that.
Canelo has basically done what Hearns did. So it can be done.
Don't think we're ever seeing a guy do what Pac did again. That some crazyiness gaining winning worlds titles in 8 classes covering 40 pounds.
No he hasn't. Hearns went after the top fighters in those higher weight classes. Canelo has consistently looked for the weakest belt holders.
Armstrong holding 3 titles at the same time is far more impressive than pac 8 weight class belts. Armstrong held 3 titles in a one belt, 8 weight class era.Right. I forgot the multiple belts per division from each sanctioning organization nowadays: super/regular/interim/franchise/diamond/etc. It IS a farce.
Achievements in context:
Armstrong > Hearns
Armstrong >> Pacquiao
Hearns > Pacquiao
1) The divisions Tommy conquered naturally had a larger talent pool (as you mentioned).
2) In his era, he could only shoot for the WBA and WBC belts; the IBF entered the scene later in his career (can't remember offhand when). Pacquiao had WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO belts available to him at any weight (although the WBO might have been later in his career also). In other words, in a game of snakes-and-ladders, Pacquiao had more ladders to get to the top.
WBO was created in late 80s. IBF was created in early 80s. Making the WBO an official title watered down being a champ. Add in that the WBA and WBC having 2 champs per weight class and the catchweight titles.
It’s ridiculous. Armstrong holding 3 titles at the same time is far more impressive than pac 8 weight class belts. Armstrong held 3 titles in a one belt, 8 weight class era. So technically, someone today would have to hold all 20 belts from fw to ww to replicate that.

no boxer can beat the 8 weight division champ records.. actually if pac didn't skip 2 lower weight classes in between he was now supposedly 10 div champ..
