How "green" was Canelo when he fought Floyd Mayweather?

He was extremely green, nowhere near his prime, plus he was weight drained. He had no amateur experience. I mean the same people that claimed that Gervonta wasn't ready for Loma are over here claiming Canelo was this proven veteran. Even still, it's not like that fight ruined Canelo like Tito/Vargas, he got better from it. It was nothing more than a multi-million dollar sparring session. Have them fight now, and Canelo bodybags him. This version of nel o beats any version of Floyd at 154 or above

Canelo wasn't green. He was a veteran fighter in his prime when he lost to Floyd. This wasn't like Loma fighting Lopez. The only thing that's changed is Canelo hasn't fought anyone half as talented Floyd since he got dominated and embarrassed by him. Also Floyd haters have changed the meaning of the term "prime" so much over the years it's nearly lost all meaning. First it was number of fights, then it was age, the it became about world title experience, then it was about accumulated damage. It's always some new bull**** excuses.

He was super green. I go back from time to time and watch his old fights and he was TERRIBLE!!!! Lil chunky kid. I agree with you there. Floyd still never challenged anyone in their prime. Mosley and De La Hoya would have destroyed the guy. So why did Mosley and DLH duck Floyd ? I agree that there is no shame in losing to Floyd because to do so means you aren’t in your prime and just recently lost heading in. Also Floyd stayed good so long becuase his Boxing IQ is iff the charts and he never took much punishment. Plus if you only fight 2xs a year you can stay fresher i guess at that age.

He's improved VASTLY ! Do you think he would've been competitive with Golovkin back in 2013 ?? How about Danny Jacobs or old Kovalev. Have you not noticed the changes in how he fights now? I can't think of another fighter who's improved so much. He's much more explosive, his defense is way better, he's much more powerful, his stamina is WAY better...and his fighter's IQ is in a completely different league now. He was a decent fighter back then but he is a great fighter now. This is true. I think he has improved by leaps and bounds.

Floyd had no issue fighting Oscar at the full 154lb weight limit, but he needed that 2 lb advantage vs Canelo. Why? Cause Saul offered 150, then 152. Had he not said anything in the 1st place, there'd be no issue

He was far from prime. The Canelo today wouldve been more competitive with Floyd. This is prime Canelo but even this Canelo still has weakness and would struggle with fast fighters.

Mayweather schooled Canelo. Stop crying about a 2 lbs catchweight. It's 2 freakin lbs. You don't lose all 12 rounds because of 2 lbs. Canelo could have been 160 in that fight and still get dominated. Canelo was: 23 years old 43 professional fights Coming off win over Trout who just beat Cotto How green was he at the time? And how much has he improved since then? Not green. One major difference, he wasn't on PED's back then. Canelo is so popular, the other fighter if he wants a pay day has to sign a contract to skip real PED tests and keep his mouth shut, otherwise no fight and payday, and he'll pick someone else. He also must agree to the " judges " picked. There I said it. To beat him for now, you need to knock him out. Not an easy task. He has good defense, can counter and a good chin.

Canelo was experienced enough and had a lot of fights, went undefeated before facing mayweather. He just hasn't peaked yet and still have room for improvement. Now he is a lot better. He has learned a lot and gotten so good after that.
