Was Roy Jones JR.'s KO loss to Tarver the worst dethroning of a P4P King?

I can't think of a worse one that that.

Tyson-Douglass was worse imo I disagree, it took a lot to beat Mike Tyson. Douglas produced his perfect fight, he also had to get up off the deck to win etc Mike Tyson even during his last moments in that fight, was scrambling and searching for his mouth peace 'Dispelling the myth, that he would just disappear if you only stood up to him'. It was a shock defeat, but technically it was not the worst defeat of a champion.

That was Larry Merchant’s immortal quote that evening, and I quote - “The Death of a King”. I think a lot of us had a hunch that sooner or later that could happen to Roy. The shock factor of Tyson - Douglas exceeded Roy’s knockout. Most shocking result of my lifetime.

Jones had just won the HW title, went back down to 175 and beat Tarver. He got KOed in the next fight and Tarver went and had a very decent career. I don't see the shame on that. No p4p fighter stays on top for ever. Chocolatito was the p4p fighter and got KOed too.

Thoughts? How many other P4P Kings have been KOed off of the throne? Tito was one, but that was after twelve rounds. To be knocked out in two rounds is pretty embarrassing. No the Tyson Buster Douglas one was the worst. By FAR. He was a 42 1/2 to 1 odds on favourite. He spent all his time with Geisha girls instead of training. At the same time, that long count, when he KD'd Douglas lasted between 14-15 seconds. There was a lot of talk about it, and I timed it several times myself, once with a borrowed stop watch. But Jones-Tarver were up there, especially, as you say , the sudden 2 rd KO. Jones was actually winning, had won the first round well, and was coming forward to follow up a good punch he'd delivered which made Tarver's much more deadly. He ran into it.. There was another big upset, Max Baer fooling around the ring and losing on points to Jim Braddock, one of the most unlikely champions.

Depends where you had Pacquiao ranked when he got kod by JMM. Most people thought he was robbed against Bradley so he was still highly ranked. Floyd and Andre Ward i believe were the other fighters largely in consideration for p4p 1.
