He got knocked down like a sack of potatoes and got straight back up to win. I was very impressed.
Notable other fighters who got knocked down by bums straight before winning a title:
- Muhammad Ali
- Tyson Fury
And that's enough really. Getting knocked down is part of the sport, and only an idiot would say otherwise.
His recovery was impressive.
So now Gold medalist who's only prior losses were to two former Champions ( one who was rated as #1 P4P at the time ) are Bums now ?
You sounding like a casual with that shet.
He also lost to a journeyman, so there’s that.
But he’s a decent fighter none the less and it was a good win.
Because he is an instagrammer.
Usually boxers earn their respect and show they are quality with heart before getting praise.
Ryan Garcia is the first social media boxer and he was hyped ever before doing anything. Just look at the circus fights with those youtubers and the average person eats that s.hit up and those guys are making millions in “exhibitions”.
Boxing is one of those old fashioned sports. Where you have to show your mettle and the fans will love you after. But he’s not done that and that’s why a lot of real boxing fans don’t like him.
I admit though, he is a pretty good boxer. He’s nothing special to me but he is definitely better than Devin Haney for example.
nobody is "hating" on this man. I really wish you sensitive azz fans would stop using that word when everyone doesn't love fighters as much as you do. I personally don't like that many fighters at the moment. I'm tired of the bs from damn near EVERY fighter that is currently listed in everyone's top 10. There are probably only 5 fighters that I can genuinely say that I'm a fan of above the bantamweight division. Tank, Haney, Lopez(post-win over Lomachenko after he became a diva), Wilder, Fury, GGG, Canelo, Joshua, Crawford, Spence, aren't included on my list. Boxing has become a goddamn joke with all of these belts and "A-side" arguments. Jr bantamweight division is doing what LW and WW should be doing. You guys complain about Inoue, but he's trying to clean out his division.
For me it is not the way he fights. I enjoy watching him. It is his ridiculous bragging and self praises I don't like. The guy is just crazy in love with himself.
You learn through tough fights. Most people are under the impression that in a sport where punches are thrown you are not supposed to get hit something occasionally.
It is never ideal to get dropped hard but if you do, it is important to get up (which he did) and still find a way to win.
What matters now is that he learns from that and prioritizes tightening up his defense a little more in his training. Or he might just be one of those guys that gets dropped early in fights and has to rally back all the time. Trinidad and Marquez were like that in a good amount of their fights.
These guys want you to praise certain fighters when they get dropped for "being tough" but when fighters they dont like get dropped they say that fighter got "exposed". Lets not give credit for flaws
He won the haters wanted him to lose but I think Garcia needs to start doing them Mike Tyson neck rolls because his neck is to long and thin basically a pencil neck people who have them type of necks will always get dropped. People who have short thick necks can take a better punch
Say what you want to but right now Ryan Garcia is the biggest name in boxing especially from a social media point of view. So yeah he is top draw. Imagine what will happen when he becomes champion
Man, I don`t know what are you talking about, I have seen Ryan fighting the first time in my life. But I am not 15 -20 old, that is true.
Well, the commentators sure didn’t help last night. Calling himself King and then calling him a champion and the future of the sport for looking shaky and pedestrian against someone who was perceived to be an easy victory, coming off a loss and Covid. Plus his entrance was cringe too. Whole lot about the kid is cringe.

So I should hype him because he beat the guy Linares and Lomachenko already beat?
But casuals say Lomachenko is not any good, but Lomachenko was not dropped by some Campbell dude, does that mean Garcia is even much worse than Lomachenko?
I don't give him flak for the knockdown but he kept on getting hit with punches that made his head snap back.
He does have speed, accuracy, heart and power but he has a lot of flaws that his speed might cover up for some time.
I don't dislike Garcia as a fighter but he talks a lot of crap and I don't care about that pretty boy image that he is riding on.
Even here in boxing scene main page, they had like 20 articles on him the day of the fight and another 10-12 like it was this big event. Too much hype on a flawed product.

He looked decent and it's being hyped as some great victory against a feather fisted Euro bum.
Though Campbell is not really a bum, your evaluation is mostly correct.
As of now, I think that Garcia loses vs both Tank and Lopez. He might very well become the next De La Hoya as everybody seems to think. Namely looking good with the second levels, and getting beaten by the first levels.

It was a good win. I think it showed holes in his game and of course we tend to focus on that. Add to the fact that instead of people letting it just be a good win and giving Garcia props they have to tear other fighters down just to do it, like we see all the Loma hate because of this win.
