I think Canelo would be too slick for Hagler. Hagler was tremendous at fighting in the pocket and switching, but Canelo has the better jab, footwork and head movement. I see this bout ending like GGG vs Canelo 2 but a much clearer victory for Canelo
Another thing to mention is that Canelo's handspeed is what cuts down his opponents output. The more you throw the more openings you give him. The bwst style to beat Canelo is a traditional boxing point style or a sharpshooter that is quicker than him.
Golovkin's traditional midrange boxing style with that accurate jab is what gave Canelo so much trouble along with his footwork. It is also how Mayweather dismantled him so easy even when you factor in that he was not as experienced yet. Mayweather held a huge reflex advantage and had the boxing IQ to sharpshoot him.
It is kind of weird how people give Canelo no shot against Hagler and even suggesting Hagler stops him with ease.
Hagler had flaws as well as do 99% of boxers. You would be completely biased in Haglers favor to suggest that Canelo would not be able to stand and trade with him. If anything, stylistacally Canelo would be better suited for a firefight because he has a way tighter defense, quicker reflexes and superior handspeed.
The main advantage Hagler would have is stamina, but he would have to absolutely go through hell trying to grind Canelo down. Which is possible....but as shown these past few years, Canelo is no easy guy to put down.
I have Canelo beating Hagler because at the end of the day....Canelo is a bigger, far more disciplined version of Duran, and Duran gave Hagler a damn near 50-50 fight.
Hagler of course. Ggg jabbing wouldn't get it done,we now know hes incapable of standing & going full on" mexican style" rockem sockem robots, Because he can dish it out but can't take it when Canelo beat him like that. Ggg would abandon everything but the jab,& straight right arm punches with lil on them. Hagler would have handled him with ease in that type of fight imho, the only fight ggg would want to fight Hagler in would be in a defensive 1st fight. Canelo would be able to go rockem sockem with Hagler much better than Ggg imo, Because Canelos bread & butter is dodging & blocking then potshotting combos. Gggs best punch is his jab,Canelos is the left hook.
But you have remember prime ggg and his relentless pressure. He had good footwork scary power and scary bodyshots i think it would be a good fight
WHo do you think wins in an all out brawl till death ggg or hagler just asking

Hagler has probably the greatest chin the sport has ever seen. He has brawled with some of the hardest punchers the sport has ever seen, and none of them slowed him down. He was always in fantastic shape, could fluidly switch from southpaw to orthodox.
Hes coming to fight every second of every round, and there is nothing you can do to stop him from doing it.
You better be able to move, because nobody has come out for the better standing and trading with the Marvelous one.

Hagler was a level above GGG with as good a chin . Not a hope in hell Canelo would even buzz him never mind KO him . Close fight but Hagler would win the battle
Im sorry but GGG chin is actual granite and hagler has been knocked down. But over all it would be a close fight
Hagler would brutalize anyone today including the light heavyweights and it would be scary to watch.
you could argue he wouldnt be big enough.Like imagine Beterbeiv fighting hagler
Who got failed a drug test Hagler or Canelo?
Haglers time didn't have proper testing, clen is a joke.(& canelo was cleared) In Haglers time it was still common practice for fighters to use all kinds of stimulants & other peds which is why they used to go 15 rds with over 1000 punches thrown,in fights that were barnburners from beginning to end.(do you actually believe that would be possible without peds despite fighters who today having superior nutrition, superior training methods, etc. being completely tired after 12 rds of stop & go action?) (it was so bad that fighters considered it completely normal that peds were the only way for them to make weight in same day weigh ins. Fighters back then literally looked at peds like they were vitamins necessary to practice the sport,Hagler started having more stringent testing towards end of career, then suddenly fights were 12 rds vs Leonard,& he didn't throw nearly as many punches)
For the record I consider Hagler the best natural talent of all time,I consider him almost the perfect fighter. The only thing that keeps him from unbeatable is that he was slightly taller, but about Canelos size
Yeah but how much of that was peds?(back then they were all doping,it wasn't thought of the same way it is now because it was so easy to get away with)
(I'm not saying Canelo would beat Hagler btw,its always up for debate in these mythical matchups because of intangibles & different eras & training methods etc.,
as far as the question of whether Canelo is better than Hagler or will be considered once retired better,
,I think nostalgia makes it impossible for modern fighters to surpass prior era fighters Because no matter what they do & how young they start fighting the best, even if Canelo beats Charlo,Andrade, Benevidez,Plant,BJS, Beterbieve before retiring,he still will be said to get Murdered by Jones & Hagler, both of whom are deified despite both having many flaws like any fighter.
Ps I also disagree about"the biggest punchers the sport has ever seen" he was a career mw who faced all the best but he could've faced them multiple times & they had same day weigh ins many of those fights(Kovalev is a natural lhw, weighed 200lbs,& was literally nicknamed the Krusher, yet he didn't even phase Canelo who walked him down (Kov before Ward was considered a much harder puncher than Ggg for example),& Haglers biggest career flaw was he didn't fight enough top guys before retiring pretty young (Leonard rematch not happening was through his own fault,& he lost that fight with 1 card being identical to Byrds card,& Ggg probably was considered among the hardest punchers at mw pre Canelo.
Bottom line is Canelo finally has an argument to make in that matchup, but nobody would ever ko Hagler thats for sure, I also don't think Hagler could ko Canelo either,I think it'd be a great fight impossible to know for sure prime v prime.
Who got failed a drug test Hagler or Canelo?
Canelo can take a punch, but hes not willing to sit there and trade. He likes to be slick and wait for chances to punch. Thats why he does terrible against guys that move. By the time he sets his feet and has his opportunity, they are gone, and he has to start over again.
We are talking about comparing him to ATG fighters, who had extremely convincing wins over fellow ATG fighters. When Canelo lost every single round to Floyd, in many peoples opinions lost both fights to GGG, and barely squeaked by Lara.
He has not put on an ATG performance, against another great fighter.
Much less against another ATG fighter in their prime.
Hagler has, Toney has, Hopkins has. Floyd has, Hearns has, Leonard Has, Jones has.
Nobody took Jones beating John Ruiz seriously. But Canelo is doing the same thing, but doing it under more dubious circumstances. That doesn't make him greater, that makes him a circus performer. He might as well start fighting youtubers if hes going to be putting in a full camp, while giving the other guy 3 1/2 weeks.
Once again, Canelo is very Talented, and can be fun to watch, when he is in actual fights like against GGG. But he seems content to just fight stinkers these days.
Not willing to sit and trade???
Did you watch Canelo vs GGG 2!!??

- -Too good a bout for NSB candies.
Gonna have to mind your Ps & Qs in the here and now to be admitted to Valhalla for that trilogy.

he has the skills to break marvin down that's for sure........marvin faced nobody with that type of surgical breakdown skills, trying to brawl canelo is a bad move for marvin.....canelo body work will slow anybody down and i mean anybody.....

Better chin than Hagler? :lol1:That's hilarious.
Canelo’s chin is hard to quantify because I’ve never seen the guy take a flush hit.
But you don’t get that far in his career with all that fancy **** (hands down & sitting in the pocket) if you don’t have a solid chin.
Whether he can take 2 rounds of bombs from a prime Hearns is a question in itself!
But Canelo has the much better defense and chin.
Canelo has neither. Better do some homework before posting garbage statements like this.
Canelo is damned good but straight up not on Haglers level.
