I just got finished reading a RING MAGAZINE article from a few years in degust, for several different reasons. One being how ring magazine and many boxing fans/journalist/critiques, disregard the EYE TEST.
For example, this particular had Jack Dempsey as the 5th greatest heavyweight of all time  . Dempsey in his prime was 190 pounds, had no skill (neither did his opponents) and would get CRUSHED by an average amateur middleweight of today?
I recall one idiot (FROM THIS MESSAGE BOARD) saying how fighters were so great back then "because they fought 30-40 rounds". The reason they were able to fight all those rounds was because they didn't do anything but circle each other and hold. If you fight 30 rounds in a Boxing match that means your not doing anything.
Logic gets thrown out the window when it comes to old primitive boxers.
Will people ever stop overrating old fighters from the past?
So many fighters from before the days of cameras have essentially become tall tale heroes.
The ONLY reason fighters like Harry Greb are held in such high regard is because there's no footage of them, so we just have to take people's word on how good they were.
No we don't dempsey/ted fought in the same era as Harry and they look horrible compared to 70s-90s,these people are crazy

Cherrypicking a few hard men from prior eras that come to mind is nothing more than a confirmation bias.
Modern fighters have their styles constantly scrutinised for weaknesses on film while needing to overcome far more athletically and technically advanced opponents than those of yesteryear.
Surely that requires vast amounts more toughness than rocking up to a club show to beat the brakes off some part-time liquor store worker who has no formal boxing education or pedigree?
Facts but srr is bragged on for beating trash that never would make amateur in 70s-90s ray would be Disgusted seeing these idiots say he was better then say a ali/lennox on a resume and skill level of fighters they faced
So you admit they were inferior boxers? Because that is precisely the topic of discussion.
The "they were so much tougher back in the day" rhetoric is cringeworthy, regardless of its veracity, which I am skeptical of.
Todays "supps" and training methods are head and shoulders above those from the past. But as i pointed out, most of todays fighters are pansies compared to yesteryear. Thats not debatable. These entitled diva fighters dont have the heart or drive of the OGs.

That phrase is a lie to how were they tougher i know for a fact if they had to face people from the 70s-90s who hit with way better tech they would be destroyed

No, and they shouldnt. These OGs were men fighting for a living and for legacy. Todays boxers might be more athletic and talented but they are nothing close to who the OGs were. They prefer to be more diva, entitled, fight once or twice a year, do what their promoter says type pugilists. Majority of this new breed are doing more harm to the sport than good. End of story

It sounds to me more like you have a bias issue of some sort than any sort of a clear or coherent argument.
Bias how its the truth if you can see good or seen those in 40s they look like I said horrible
Isn't that this topic primitive boxers which means 40s-when boxing started of course it looks horrible compared to 70s-now but crazy idiots on this site either have bad vision or hallucinations or both and won't admit it
An emotional drug addict hero-worshipping his idols is meant to convince us that athletes in every modern sport have not vastly improved from their predecessors?
You can give respect to the OGs without being deluded about their capabilities in the ring.
Heard of the phrase "standing on the shoulders of giants"?
Newton and Leibniz invented calculus, yet the average high school graduate today is taught more than they ever knew.
This will make you upset: Tyson would have KO'd Ali inside 3 rounds.
Facts mike fought mutiple people who were outboxers who were less flawed and more advanced then ali who wasnt even tech and did mutiple stuff that he got away with cause his comp was lacking
1 name is tyrell did mutiple stuff ali never did
Tyrell would be the top guy in 70s
The trainers have all taught their fighters to be a combo of tyrell like fighters and added to that
No trainer since 60s have taught their boxer to be like ali his style was way to basic compared to people like tyrell which was why he had trouble with henry/Frazier who were the most skilled fighters ali ever fought
Nobody ali fought ever would give mike trouble or tyrell or others mike fought cause of the advances in the era
Ok I’m sorry my rant is over. It’s fucking cold outside and it was a long walk to the bus stop to go to work. Sorry I didn’t mean to actually offend anyone. It was all banter but I do care about history that’s what I studied in college. But please I request I’m not banned for talking shit. I apologize if I offended anybody..
To all the disrespectful numbskulls on here. I have changed my avatar, now you have to stare up at the face of the great Jack Johnson every time I post. Hahahahaha… no one will get away with disrespect the past as long as I’m here.
