Quit happens, even to solid world champs. Just putting things into perspective. Dubois can come back, the real issue isn't the quit but how bad the eye injury is and how much it could effect his career moving forward.
* Before he was a well-established champion, Vitali Klitschko quit on his stool in a fight against Chris Byrd. This was 3 years before his fight with Lewis which was the fight he became famous for, despite losing.
* Vitali had a massive size advantage over Byrd, a guy who in his pro debut weighed only 169 pounds. But years later in his 32nd pro fight, Byrd weighed 210, whereas Vitali 244. A massive 34lbs size advantage over Byrd.
* Byrd took the Klitschko fight on only 10 days notice after Vitali's opponent pulled out.
* Byrd suffered his first professional defeat just 1 year before the Vitali fight, getting knocked out in 5 rounds by Ike Ibeabuchi.
Vitali was a great fighter with about ten times the fighting ability of DDD. He was a great champion who rarely lost. DDD is not that good and is very slow and not accurate with his punches. Quit or no quit he does not have what it takes to ever be very successful or a world champion in my opinion.
Vitali didn't fight anyone of Joe Joyce's caliber in his 16th fight at 23 years old. Let's say he fought Joyce in his 16th fight, I'd give a prime Joyce a good shot to beat an inexperienced Vitali who was fighting pretty poor opposition at that stage of his career.

Turns out he suffered broken orbital bone and nerve damage. That’s was reported about an hour or two ago in U.K.
I think what made it look really bad is that the jab that beat him looked slow and weak. It looked nothing like the high velocity jabs we're used to seeing from jab masters like Holmes, Lewis and Vlad.
Apparently there was a lot more there than meets the eye....so to speak :D
