IMO he had a really bad night against Ryder. We'll see how he looks against Canelo.
Stylistically, it's gonna be very interesting. He has a large reach advantage, but he has a very slight frame which should greatly benefit the body game and Canelo's speed. If he can keep at a distance with strong jabs, Callum can pull off an easy win. If Canelo pushes the fight to him and he can't keep him at a distance, he's in for a very rude awakening, TKO livershots.
3 weeks notice. Hearn sacrificing his fighters again for networks.
This fight has been talked about as a possibility for months, if Smith isn't ready and accepted the fight thats really on him not Hearn.
It is the best fight that can be made at 168lbs. Smith is considered one of the best and he holds a legit title. Smith is bigger than Canelo and he is unbeaten. It is a good fight to be made.
smith just lost. we know this and canelo especially knows this. in reality benavidez and plant should be above him not based on stellar resume but simply based on smith losing. now this doesnt mean smith sucks just cause he took a loss but if you look at the totality of his resume and performances he doesnt seem to be anything more than a solid fighter. he barely beat erik skogland. if hes staying at 168 then ok start beating these guys but we know how canelo division hops/makes up his own divisions/makes fights only when he is ready so that is pretty frustrating. he didnt want to fight at 160 when ggg was around so he fought at 155, he will only fight at 175 if its against an old kovalev but not beterbiev until he is ready it seems.

but isn't that what a cherry pick is? picking a guy after only seeing a blueprint how to beat him, he didn't pick Plant because they're still isn't a blueprint on how to beat him, he isn't the only one who does this, a lot of the top fighters do this but we got to call them out, I'm surprised a the backlash I'm getting, I'm only pointing out the fact, he's fighting a fighter coming off a clear loss
Yea, fair enough, that’s a fair way of looking at it. I think people are still viewing canelo as the small mw moving up to fight these big guys, but it’s possible canelo can’t even make mw anymore. Either way, the guy is rated 1 in the division, so we can’t ask too much more I guess.
this is going to be a crybaby bltch thread...
... isn't it ? :lol1::lol1:
Hahaha
I thought Brook had a chance in the Crawford, I made 2 threads about it and I was clearly wrong, this fight has no chance of being competitive, Canelo only fighting Callum after seeing what Ryder did to him
The fact that you thought he had a chance says more about you than anything else. This is levels above fighting a semi retired guy at a weight hadn't fought at in 4 years
We weren't asking for much, just asked could he now deal with a more enhanced version of FMW and Lara. Is that too much to ask?

Did you just really bring up andrade..? That man is in bjs territory he has no right to talk about being ducked
I'm not putting anything on Canelo here.
It isn't his fault Smith got beat.
Smith arguably is the highest profile super middle so he's just going for 'top guy'. But from a fans point of view I cant shake that Smith is carrying no momentum into the fight. Zero.
I know what you mean. It reminds me of when Zab Judah got upset by Carlos Baldomir with a Mayweather fight on the horizon. Zab definitely lost momentum as a result but he performed much better against Floyd and the fight was entertaining.
I suspect that Callum Smith with do something similar, at least in terms of looking much better than he did in his last fight.

Callum Smith was mentioned a long time ago as a potential Canelo opponent so I don't think he's been sitting on the couch this whole time. Also, if the timing was an issue then he could have declined the fight like Caleb Plant did.
I believe that Callum Smith expects to be ready if he signed the contract.
Canelo wanted To fight before end of year. Only one fighter showed up.

Rematch merit and unfairness is nothing new in boxing. Let’s take Lara for example. His loss against Canelo. Lara went on to make great money each fight thereafter. Ryder just has to hustle and get a KO or a good win to get another “in-house” shot. For example, Ryder vs Lemieux was supposed to happen remember. Lemieux got injured. Now let’s say if Ryder beat Lemieux it would’ve got him another rematch with BJS. Promoters are very fickle and the very least a fighter can do if they’re begging is to show up in spectacular fashion whenever ready. Lara is old. Ryder can bounce back. He would always be the man remembered to have first dethroned Smith the way many fans remember Mauricio Herrera was the guy who dethroned DSG.
Whilst every thing you say is true, it is why me and probably other fans arent feeling it.
Smith is no longer number 1 after losing to Ryder, how can you be a number one fighter when you just lost to a C+/B- type fighter, I'm not hating on Canelo what so ever, he is one of my favorite fighters to watch, but you gotta call a spade, a spade, Canelo only fighting Smith after he looked horrible against Ryder, he lost almost every round and looked defenseless, if he were to fight Saunders, Plant or Benavadies like I stated in the video I wouldn't be upset at all, heck a fight against Ryder would have been more highly regarded in my eyes than this fight
And no I don't want his to fight Beterbiev
Smith had a bad night against Ryder I agree and I personally thought he lost but Smith is still a quality fighter
This won’t be an easy night for Canelo.
Potentially great fight with two caveats. Canelo does not get to fck around with anything to do with weight, Smith is hard against the rail already. Secondly, if Smith isn’t in really good shape right now, there isn’t enough time to get in great shape in the time remaining.
Hoping for the best but I got my doubts.
On the button. I'm no Canelo fan but I've no complaints about this fight of everything's on the up and up.
So if any other fighter got Smith it woulndt matter because Ryder beat him? What is still stalemate of reasoning? Canelo fighting Smith has what to do with Ryder
Yes, 100%
Because this is what happens. Just dont understand why two in-house fighters didnt rematch.
It smacks of the unfairness of boxing. Ryder will probably end up getting wiped out now in some boxing backwater when that rematch would have sorted him out.
Smith and Gallagher were so disingenuous after that fight too. Which put me off more than anything. I don't care if he lost I thought he lost 8-4 ish but I'd have liked to see him right that perceived wrong and just say yeah Ryder is a good fighter and got on top on the night.
He looks babied now. Has zero momentum going into that fight
We weren't asking for much, just asked could he now deal with a more enhanced version of FMW and Lara. Is that too much to ask?

Smith is in his prime, he has the size and strength and seems to perform much more in bigger fights.
Canelo vs Smith is a better fight than Crawford vs a shot Brook.
but didn't he just get dominated by Ryder? Ryder is literally a poor man's version of Canelo, Canelo is going to cruise to a easy win, Idk why anyone is defending this fight, we know who's going to win, there's no intrigue what so ever for this fight
TS is nothing but Troll licking pbc booty.
? That's not true, who won the Smith/Ryder fight? when was it acceptable for a P4P fighter to fight a guy coming off a loss
