I believe so. His pick was when he was 20 -22. Lost to Douglas by a KO be the age of 23 and people say it wasn`t prime Tyson any more, lol.
His best career win is past prime Holmes.
After prison, he lost to every world class fighter he faced. Lost to Holyfield twice, lost to Lewis.
This guy is getting too much reputation. He was Andre Berto of heavyweight division, but people still act like he was the second best heavyweight ever or something. The fact that he is actually the second most famous boxer ever just tells how stupid boxing casuals are.

In short the answer is no..Not even close..Tbh this is a foolish ass question..

Being overrated can be argued about any boxer in history!
One thing for sure, youngest ever HW champ, and a total beast in the ring.
At that time he was the most technical fighter out there. Spinks looked like he was scared to death and got ran over. Nobody expected that.
Spinks was a LH had no business at HW lots expected him to be run over.

His best win was Razor Ruddock. He was one dimensional and couldn't adjust in a fight.
I see the argument that he gets overrated too often but at the same time he gets unfairly hated on by others.
Name one other ATG whose sole reason for keeping it together was taken from him at an early age. That’s why people use “what if’s” with Tyson. Because that’s all they got. That and some theories.
My theory is that a well trained, lightening fast, power in both fists knockout artist poses a threat to anyone. Didn’t say he’d beat everyone. Didn’t say he’s top 10. Just don’t think that D’Amato version of Tyson should be written off so easily.
I'm just saying.... Tyson the only fighter that gets ranked based off "what if"
But if we try to do that with other fighters it's automatically shut down. But since everyone loves Mike he gets the what if exception.
He is the exception to the rule, I’d have him in my top 5 without hesitation.
Ain't no exception lol. Ain't no what if.
Unless u gonna accept my list of 50 other what if's
KO’s generate hype. Tyson had that run and also his personality. Then the fact that he was a heavyweight, the glamour division also added to making him one of the most known fighters of all time. The fact that he’s so known, garner’s him extra votes to this greatness that is probably overrated, yes.
He carried the whole heavyweight scene at a time when it was regarded as the worst ever heavyweight era, he was young and exciting but had no genuine world class fighters to oppose him, so unfortunately we will never know how good he truly was because he only knocked out lesser class heavyweights.
He never had a career defining fight, he was small and was never comfortable against long range box punchers as proved by his fights with Tucker, Smith and most notably Douglas.
Unfortunately people make so many excuses for his failure against the true world class fighters he faced, he has been blown up into mythical status for knocking out average heavyweights.
For me his best win was against Ruddock and look what Lewis did to him.
You when someone knows **** all about boxing, it's when they say Mike Tyson is the greatest fighter ever or the greatest heavyweight of all time lol.
He is when casuals spout off that he's "tHe gREAtesT boXER EvER!" However, I think most well researched boxing fans know that it's a hell of a task to try to squeeze Tyson into a top 10 best Heavy Weights list.
Mike Tyson - Spinks is one of the most pathetic fights I have ever seen. Something like Ortiz -Flores, lol.

That was a great performance Douglas put out that night. He even got knocked down hard in that fight. Special fighters are the only ones that beat Tyson like Holyfield and Lewis. Can't judge him with the stiffs that he lost at the end of his career.
He still gets credit for being the youngest HW to win a title and should get credit for beating Spinks and unifying the belts.

This is why he the most over hyped of all time.
No other fighter gets the "what if" pass than Tyson.
Tyson is on too many top 10 ATG lists when he not a top 5 heavyweight
He is the exception to the rule, I’d have him in my top 5 without hesitation.
Both overrated and underrated.
Early 20's Tyson is a handful for everyone at heavyweight. He is not unbeatable (key word) but he is a live threat just based off of his massive speed advantage coupled with power.
Fans love knockouts, especially in the HW division. If it were so easy to KO Mike's opponents why wasn't everyone doing it? He made it look easy because of his skill and power. Hardly overrated.
