I think he was very good but I think prime against prime both Canelo and GGG were better than him. He was losing to Jacobs before he knocked him out and he had done nothing special before he KOed Jacobs that i know of.
Very talented fighter for sure but impossible to say what he would’ve done
I think it’s probably a decent assumption to think he would’ve been in the mix at the top anyway
Could he have beaten a prime GGG? Who knows. Some people forget how good GGG was in his physical prime. Canelo waited for him to show signs of decline for a reason, and still had to get a robbery to get a draw.
He would've beaten them all and had a long reign like Hopkins.
Brilliant fighter... they didn't call him The Grandmaster for nothing. The Grandmaster monniker was a reference to his Chess playing... you musta heard the story about how he wondered into a sports center looking for chess opponents and instead discovered boxing? Not sure of the absolute truth of it but it makes a great story either way.
But yeah for sure an extremely talented, very cerebral fighter fighter, but it's worth remembering that whilst he never lost or even really came close he also didn't really face many quality opponents. Absolute shame that we didn't get to see how far his talents and idiosyncratic style could have taken him.
It was the Jacobs win that put Pirog on the map.
A rematch would probably have happened before GGG stepped up.
What? It didn’t. They were scheduled to fight. The back injury happened while training for the GGG fight and the fight was cancelled because of it with something like less than a month to go before fight day (or around that time).
Are you saying that if Pirog didn't injure his back, he would have pulled out of the scheduled fight with Golovkin to rematch Jacobs instead?
All if's are credible ?

You went a whole different direction. They did fight. If Jacobs didn’t have cancer he’d probably still get caught. What next? What if Zeus blessed Jacobs’ hands with thunder and he decapitated Pirog with the first punch he threw.
GGG and Pirog didn’t fight and were scheduled. I think GGG may have gotten it. I’ve got to go with the longer consistent body of work of GGG. Just not enough to go on picking Pirog here.

That if theory, though.
That's what this thread is about, yes ?

lol
Jacob's couldn't even beat GGG, and he looked to be 40lbs more than GGG in that fight

Continuing the if theory, Jacobs ends him in a rematch if he didn't have cancer.
