Sparring is training though. Very different.
Ohhh gotcha. Boxrec amateur info is spotty and incomplete a lot of the times
- -Correction!!!
All AMA records are filled with spotty and incomplete records, even modern.
Same with older pro records. Such is the background of what started in the James Figg era where boxing remained illegal for centuries.
Baseball was never illegal per say, thus more accessible to the people that attracted stat guys and other higher meticulous record keepers.
Hopkins had amature fights. Canelo had 50 or so. Duran had 20 to 30 No one really knows the exact number. These are all guys that I thought had no amateur fights.
Joseph Parker has an interesting partial record.
15-11 and lost every fight in the WSB
Also lost to Erik Pfeiffer who was scheduled to fight Daniel Dubois not too long back
I had a feeling something was going on. Just doesn't make sense for everyone to be so, so low on fights.
Is there a good amateur record keeping site, mag, or book?
Sadly not. This one is about the most complete I have managed to find but sadly they don't have an awful lot of fighters listed but they do have most of the current top Eastern European fighters records at least partial.

little to no amateur experience?
That's basically the story of every mexican fighter
Experience comes in many forms, if these Mexican kids have been in gym's since they where a kid? Training and fighting inside the gym 'For me that is experience'.
If you have been a street fighter 'Again that is experience' it all add's up etc
But he had like 50,000 sparring matches . He said he would spar everyday
Sparring is training though. Very different.
I have no ****ing clue :lol1:
I don't know much of **** about am careers, just boxrec info.
I am fully ignorant here.

Can a boxer become successful in the Pro's without any Amateur background. Give Me your thoughts? Any boxers with little or no amatuer experience?
Most Boxers from Mexico have limited Amateur experience Canelo only had 15 amateur fights. Butter Bean made Money being King of The 4 rounders He never had amateur experience other than winning the Tough Man Contest
:lol1: Nice
One thing that's been on my mind recently is how true is it when people say X had little to no amateur experience especially in the HW division. I've had very little time to do any research but there is some interesting stuff. I'm not an amateurs expert, at all, I didn't even bother to follow or look at ams prior to now so this is just boxrec info with no context.
Wilder is 24-6, meant to be a low figure for a HW champion.
Marciano is 9-4
Ali, 23-1
Tyson, 10-2
Joe Louis, 24-2
Patterson, 18-2
Berbick is 0-3
Ezzard Charles 3-0
Holy 14-6
W. Klistchko 20-4
Vitali 4-2
Fury 6-3
AJ 26-2
Pov 14-2
Martin 10-5
Lewis 24-4
Frazier 7-2
L. Spinks 32-8
I don't think it matters. Wilder oddly has a lot of amateur experience compared to other HW champions. I wonder why we were told he doesn't. Fury, conversely, hardly fought as an amateur for a guy who 'grew up' fighting.
When I get time i'me going to look into all the am records on boxrec for the HW champions and ask wtf.
There's a lot of Olympians on that list. Not saying you're wrong but it blows my mind Floyd Patterson was an olympic gold medalist with only 20 amateur fights.

These are just partial records.
Most of this list had extensive amateur careers & were olympians some of which had in excess of 300 amateur or so fights.
Wilder had the least experience of anyone listed apart from Marciano

You left off former champ Pinklon Thomas who I believe never had an amateur fight.Joltin Jeff chandler I believe his name was a tall lanky philly featherweight champ or maybe bantamweight
That fought 2 or 3 amateur fights .
