He had close fights against Chisora and Briedis on the road and both times was declared the winner. He also fought Gassiev in the Russian capital and, even though that fight wasn't close, there was no attempt of robbery or close scores.
Is it his fine technique that catches judges' eyes?
He got an MD against Breidis. 1 round away from a draw on 2 judges' cards vs Chisora. The Gassiev fight was one of the most one-sided beatdowns you will have ever seen, and 2 of the judges gave Gassiev 1 round (he lost all 12).
Briedis fight was close but Usyk was the rightful winner.
The Chisora fight was competitive but Usyk clearly won. I had it 116-112. The two judges scoring it 115-113 certainly gave Chisora plenty of love.
I didn’t think the Breidis fight was close in terms of clarity. It couldn’t have gone either way iirc. I think it would have been dangerously close to robbery if he’d have not gotten it.
And yeah, Chisora was competitive but also reeeally clear. After the first couple of rounds, Usyk largely did what he wanted.
They weren’t close that’s why.

He fights legit unprotected guys.
It is not like fighting Canelo in Vegas, lol.
I'd argue Breidis is somewhat protected. Has he even fought outside of Latvia?
But yeah, he's not fighting cash cows. And the two cards against Chisora WERE weak as all hell.
