I admit I got waaay on the Wilder KO bandwagon after the two Ortiz fights, so I’m trying to be more cautious with this guy. We know so little about Berlanga for obvious reasons (all his fights have ended in the first round).
But with all that taken into account, this first round KO streak is quite something! Starting to have shades of prime Wilder and even maybe reminiscent of GMan. How long he will maintain this streak remains to be seen.
What’re your thoughts on Berlanga, and who do you think would be his toughest test right now?
Lol
This guy
The word thug and bum are what go together lol
So do me and your mother and you and Mexican genitals
You're the bum who bigged up Subriel Matias to beat Josh Taylor LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
He's got a lot of natural power but how do we know how good he is? 168 is such a barren wasteland that he'd basically have to fight a top 30 guy to get some sort of impression of where Berlanga is.
He's entertaining for damn sure and I'm excited to find out who he is exactly. I hope he keeps winning and knocking everybody out.
He might reach the level of, say, Daniel Santos.
I remember Santos at the beginning of his career, he looked frightening against no-hopers, but then got knocked out by Kofi Jantuah. Still, he went on to achieve nice results.
Zero excitement. Not trying to criticise him or anything but have seen it all before. He has been a pro since 2016 and his team have been moving him carefully (And so they should) for a reason. Just look at his opponents and who they have been in with, and that says it all really.
I have no doubt that once his steps up his competition then his KO in the first rounds would then be the 7th rounds, to UD to split/MD or robbery.
SUPERSTAR Potential!
I think Arum with his Influence with the WBO, Speed things up for him and get him in With BJS for that Belt Immediately. I think Berlanga would knock BJS ass out right now!
But yeah 168 is going to be fun for years go come, Berlanga, hopefully Benavidez can still make 168 because that can be a Super Fight one day. Also watch out for the Cuban David Morrell, he also have Superstar Potential and I would not be shocked if PBC also pushes for that fight with Callum Smith for him right now since he is the Mandatory
I'm actually really excited to see him again.
People were trying to downplay the KO the other day because of "opposition" but two things:
1. They are actually actively looking for opponents to give him rounds, and he is still putting them away.
2. It isn't as easy as it looks to KO 15+ people in a row in the 1st round. Even "cans". And no one wants to be put to sleep that early, fighters aren't letting it happen.
My point being, no matter how you slice it, its impressive.
Yup. professional fighters... The last guy a veteran who, if memory serves correct had never been put away. Not easy at all.
The guy has a quality I see in many Puerto Rican and some Cuban fighters... a natural ability with an appreciation for the technical fine points. I attribute this to culture. When I was a kid in East Harlem, so many of my Puerto Rican friends had "grandpa" take them to the gym to teach them some of the finer points of boxing.
Where it shows with this kid is howhe sets up his opponent. He actually does not remind me much of Wilder. Wilder is explosive and twitchy. He gets emotionally invested and attacks. This kid has heavy hands, speed, and is very calculating in how he proceeds.
He is an exciting division where a lot of guys, (as opposed to the lower divisions) have power... But his power is in another level. Were talking Julian jackson like!
