Team Lomachenko thought they were going to beat Teofimo, and that didn’t happen, and now they got to live with it. Was it arrogance on Lomachenko and his team’s part not to include a rematch clause in the fight? Perhaps.
Loma is used to winning, and it was assumed that the young 23-year-old upstart Teofimo would fall by the wayside like the others.
IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO lightweight champion Teofimo says Lomachenko can eat the loss because he’s moving on with his career towards bigger and better things.
One fight that Teofimo is interested in for 2021 is to take on the winner of the 140-pound unification match between champions Josh Taylor and Jose Ramirez.
GREAT point!!! Lopez out and all four belts up for grabs now??? I just dont get it?
As someone said even Hearn won't let his fighters team go full RTARD like this.
Look at AJ? Way the fuk out of the country in a GIANT sized ring.
Yeah AJ had more of reason to not have a rematch clause he was fighting a last minute replacement.... And his promoter knew better.... Leave arrogance outta of business decisions!
It’s smarter to say no rematch to establish bargaining position.
The real question is whether Loma wants one. He says he thinks he won but he didn’t actually say he wanted a rematch.
If he does, his team needs to put together an offer for Lopez that is too attractive to turn down.
Loma is guaranteed to get a title shot at one of the 4 vacant belts when Lopez moves up to 140. I can't see a rematch because Lopez can't make the weight easily, but he could give Loma a rematch if the money is good enough to justify the spartan diet and water cut.
That’s on Loma’s team if they didn’t put in a rematch clause.
I doubt Lopez’s team would have objected.
They put their guy in a position of losing all his titles and having no contractual obligation to give him a shot to win them back. Bad business by Loma’s team.
Oh no doubt Dunn Lopez was f***king him up in the 12th. I'm not saying Lomachenko would definitely win a rematch at all...in fact, Lopez would be favored. I'm just saying that it would be possible. There are some fans out there acting as if Lomachenko would have a 0% chance to win a rematch. And that's absurd. A fighter of Lomachenko's caliber would of course have a shot to win.
Also a fighter of Lomachenko's caliber would make a lot of adjustments based on how the first fight went, He'd be better prepared mentally and physically with regard to stamina issue. I suppose Lopes would also make a few adjustments.
Based on the scoring the judges could have been bought for sure. Needlessly so though as Lopez was the clear winner just not by so large a margin.
Not bought, just incompetent.

If this was 130 or below I’d agree with you.
I think at 135, Loma is in the same type of situation Floyd was at 154.
I will say this-Loma’s defense is so good that he could tire anyone out and win late.
But honestly I see this as a Forrest/ Shane or Raheem/Morales deal where the other guy has the size, speed and strength on his side and will always be a bad matchup.
One thing I always loved about Floyd was that he'd immediately give a guy a rematch if it was a close fight.
The other thing I liked about Floyd was he made sure the rematch wasn't close.
Arum calls the shots, not Teofimo.
If Arum does not want the rematch in order to protect his new star, then we know he most likely rigged the judges in the fight. Like Pac Bradley and Pac Horn.

First let loma earn it have him face Haney or tank andnif he wins he gets the rematch and it would be that much bigger.
Yes! This is what should happen and it will make for several interesting fights.
Well, they haven't even really capitalized off this fight as it had no gate, so I guess there should be some money that could be made. Maybe their happy with just having the few face they can headline (against anyone) when fans come back.
I'd imagine being able to do it next year at MSG with Teo coming in as THE guy, doing it his own way with his people in attendance. Berlanga on the undercard again; maybe a resurgent Verdejo as well. Loma fought a couple times there - could be a hyped up event. Like the Trinidad and Cotto days (yes, I know Lopez is not PR, just speaking of NYC boxing crowd)
I supposed they could do all that and put Lopez up with a patsy and still make money so there's that going against a rematch.
I just feel like, yes, I saw enough to say Teo won clearly, yet wanted to see the fight continue on? Teo was just starting to put it on him after getting touched up in previous rounds..action was still very tight
