Wasn't Popachenko supposed to be this boxing wizard that created the greatest fighter of all time and knows things about the sport that no other trainer or fighter knew?
So...Where were the adjustments?
"Be patient. Just be patient."
Really? That's it? That's all he had to say in between rounds. The great boxing sage could only come up with a game plan of waiting until Lopez got tired...With no adjustments in between. No, go to the body? Nothing?
I respect Loma for trusting and following his trainers game plan, because he definitely was patient.
I was bombed last night
I was already drunk when before the fight started and then took a rip of the ganj before the fight
during the fight I was like

pretty elite hangover today, especially this morning
Haha yes same here to all that.
It's funny, if you look at my posts when I'm all drunk I try way too hard and suddenly think I'm A. J. Liebling...
Yeah I made a similar thread last night when I was all shyte faced

Hey, it happens!
Yep.
Not going to say I know more about boxing then any trainer of course but it seems like basic logic to be.
You don’t need to be doing hard sparring every day in gym ward, that’d be stupid, but I think it’d be far more beneficial for boxers to be even doing light tippy tap sparring with a guy infront of you, being able to actually work on things, building up muscle memory etc. rather than firing beach balls out of their arse or other circus tricks.
yeah. Hard sparring every day is not the answer. That's that terry norris and james toney crap that has them severely speech slurred today. It will prepare you for fights better than anything else, but very crucial to your life after boxing. I think there should be 3 rounds of hard sparring per week leading up to a fight. At the MOST 3. Larry Holmes said he used to have a $10k bounty on his own head in the gym when he was reigning world champ. Anyone who could knock him down got the $10k.
who does he train besides his journeyman son and cherry picker usyk? How is Usyk a cherry picker when he fought all the champions and unified cruiserweight? If Usyk is a cherry picker then every pro boxer fighting now must also be a cherry picker. In just 700 posts you have shown yourself to be a ridiculous hater of all eastern European boxers. You have some much hate for them all your head might explode.
exactly. And I say that to anyone impressed by pad work that looks flashy. Those pads aren't trying to take your head off or break your rib cage. The best way to be the best is to actually fight and spar with great competition. Bringing in sparring partners to lay down, hitting tennis balls, flashy pad work, and being on IG every other day means absolutely nothing when you're in the ring with a guy trying to kill you and you haven't properly prepared for him. You train as you fight. Fighting is supposed to be the easy part, it's the training that's the hard part.

He was not smart for this fight. You don't have your fighter retreat and throw almost no punches for the first 7 rounds if you want your fighter to win the fight. Loma did very well in 4 of the last 5 rounds but he was 7 rounds behind by then.
I think that can be said about styles as well. Lomachenko is a very good fighter, but the flashiness and uniqueness of his style is what caused people to elevate him from a really good fighter to this ATG of the likes we have never seen. Stylistically, Loma does have a WOW factor, but that can be taken away by a talented well trained fighter.
All you hear about Loma is "OMG look at those angles. angles, angles, angles." When he was in with a fighter athletic enough to step around with him, those "angles' everyone's always talking about weren't as effective.
I used to say similar about Manny, although I rate Manny much higher and is one of the greats.
But I mean people always said Manny would beat Floyd and other fighters because of the angles used to throw combinations from, like Floyd was going to stand flat-footed and let him move where he wants, same as JMM never let him. Take away those angles and he was a far less effective fighter.
For me there is no substitute for intelligent footwork and positioning and you don’t need to look dazzling to have those things. I thought Lopez was very impressive last night in these aspects.
people just look at unconventional training methods and think it’s some special thing.
You can juggle as many tennis balls as you want, but when a sharper stronger fighter cracks you in the body in the first round and makes you gun shy, then circus tricks aren’t going to help you. This is boxing.
I understand the method of the training techniques, coordination etc.. but I think there is no better practice than actually boxing. A concert pianist isn’t juggling their music score and riding around the piano on a unicycle, they are sat at the piano practising because that’s what matters.

Yes.
Floyd Mayweather's training was quite basic, quite old school but substantial 'The only thing that was maybe different was? His sparring, with continuous rounds'.
We live in a age of scientism, people idolize these new sport science concepts 'Which compartmentalized boxing'.
Not entirely knocking sport science, as I have been involved with sports 'That have been throughout history, pioneers of sports science'.
As a boxer you have to prioritize your time in training, you have to wonder? Have all these fancy routines, really been worth it for Lomachenko 'Truly great fighters PASS tests, Lomachenko has failed two big test now'.
There was nothing fancy about Joe Calzaghe, and his training methods 'But he passed all the test, that where asked of him inside of the ring'.
