What do folks think of Teddy Atlas focusing more on MMA than boxing in his recent podcasts? He has also been working with Francis Ngannou and others...
Here he is defending himself against the so called boxing purists.
"I'm here to report what's going on...I'm the weatherman. I'm gonna tell you if it's rainin' or snowin', or if it's gonna be sunny. Boxing hasn't given us a lot of sunny days guys. I have news for ya...it's been rainy!? "
He goes on to say that "Boxing has been putting on sparring sessions, and the UFC is putting on actual fights....What am I suppose to say!? Not Say it!? And not say that I'm interested in it!? and not say that I appreciate the competitiveness they're giving us!? Damn right I'm gonna say it!"

I am a big fan of both sports, and I tend to agree with him. Too many mismatches. Why is it so unacceptable for a boxer to lose? Why is it more acceptable to line up 30 tomato cans and knock them all down then to be in compelling match ups that fans want to see?
I'm a huge fan of both sports, so I've given this a bit of thought over the years. What do others think?
iv heard robberies are starting to get more rampant in mma to. how much truth is their to that?
Theres contentious decisions and controversial stoppages at times (always has been) but its not as bad as boxing can be. Plus you dont get the whole Wilder/Fury or Canelo/GGG tactic of fights ending in draws so they can spend a year building to the rematch. Or immediate rematches any time someone they wanted to win loses.
and for all the money generated, how much actually goes to fighters? i hear they are paid way worse then boxing counterparts.
With a few exceptions (Conor, Khabib, Brock when he was there) most main event level guys make in the 400-700k range with various 50k bonuses available if you get KO of the night, fight of the night etc. So yeah, a lot less than their boxing equivalents. Tbh though, the lower pay (and the UFC having a monopoly on the sport to a degree) is a big part of why they can put out stacked cards on a relatively frequent basis. I mean, Loma/Lopez is costing about $5m in combined purses I think, thats more than literally the entire combined purses of UFC 253. And yet ESPN is giving Loma/Lopez away for free while they had the UFC 253 on PPV and it did 700k buys. Theres a huge disconnect.
And for the guy complaining about MMA discussion being on here. Theres a thread about Loma/Lopez on the first page of Sherdog at the moment. Like 90% of MMA fans on there are praising the fight and saying they will watch it over the UFC this weekend. Funny how they dont get all insecure eh?
makes sense.
tbf boxing doesnt deserve to do well right now. boxing has become a worse version of wwe.
the two things that put off casuals the most.
boredom and fixed fights.
Pretty much. Boxing sabotages itself over and over sadly. Its actually impressive that it manages to still be as popular as it is when it coasts along at 50% of its potential most of the time. Practically every potentially huge fight gets marinated for years, some dont even happen in the end, its ****ing insane. If the UFC half arsed it like that i dont think they would survive very long.
so doing better than boxing right now?
numbers i mean?
As a PPV draw its a lot more consistent yeah, it was even in the Floyd & Pac era. They tend to have much better online engagement when it comes to Youtube views etc as well.
Its apples to oranges in some respects though I guess, considering how scattered around the place boxing is with all the different promotions on different networks.
thats pretty damn good.
Yeah they've done it a couple of times this year already with the Conor fight and then Jorge/Usman did I think 1.3m. Pretty good year for them.
interesting it seems teddy has lost interest in the sweet science and has decided to move on his interests into the Octagon? hmmm well I wonder how it works out for him
Teddy Atlas, entertaining but glad he’s going to MMA!
Can’t wait to watch his crash an burn moments with them when he starts criticizing Dana White!
Teddy Atlas vs Dana White is gonna be epic
Id assume MMA fans would stay on an MMA forum if they wanted to talk about MMA. You are posting a preview video for a UFC event and talking about it on a boxing forum. Strange behaviour.
Why would i want to go on an MMA site i have zero interest in it. So why are you here?
Lol dude sitting there in his tin foil insulated room with a whopping 200 posts in 12 ****ing years telling other users not to post here. Yes bro, you got me, I actually work for the UFC, i'm here on a small boxing forum, waiting for a thread like this so I could desperately try to generate some interest for a PPV that will only do around a million buys, by posting a video that was only watched by 2.5m people before I posted it here. You caught me red handed. In fact heres a pic of me just for you..

Again, thread says MMA in the title twice, its about Teddy favouring boxing over MMA these days, and inevitably quickly turned into a broader discussion about the merits of MMA vs boxing like all others do. Why are you so bothered that this one thread out of 25 on the first page has some MMA related discussion in it? do you think people on MMA forums get pissy and insecure when boxing is brought up?

Boxingscene.com. You would have thought the name was pretty self explanatory right?
You still haven't explained what you are doing here?
Oh and Atlas is talking up the UFC because he needs a paycheck his bridges are burned in boxing.

So you clicked on a thread that has MMA in the title twice, and are complaining that people are talking about MMA on it?
It'll do around a million buys i'd guess.

Cool story bro but why are you talking about it on a boxing forum? Do you work for the UFC I couldn't give a fcuk myself. 2nd rate strikes and dry humping ahoy.
Great if you like that sort of thing. Bores me to tears.

i saw that is behind closed doors. they must be expecting to make A LOT on ppv then.
It'll do around a million buys i'd guess.
Bro, in all seriousness that whole card is ****ing nuts. Biggest fight night of the year.

i dont know who is fighting at ufc 254. probably some womanish gay "fighters".
that gif is hilarious though.

lucas brown and dilian whyte are actual bums and are on steroids. you fail again
😂
So, excited for UFC 254?

collard is a journeyman/gatekeeper type tbh
and browne was nearly killed by dilian whyte
and these are the mighty representatives of mmgay to boxing???
No, they're bums that made the switch and had reasonable success. Browne actually made the top 10 briefly for ****s sake. You're asking why UFC level guys dont go to boxing but there you have a UFC washout and a guy that never made the UFC going into boxing. So if they could do it, guys that were actually great MMA strikers could probably do it too and find more success....right?
Btw Dillian Whyte was actually an okayish kickboxer first and also dabbled in MMA before moving to boxing.
beating up hobos with motorcyle gloves and then rolling around on the floor like gays isnt what id call nuanced tbh
This is like some clueless soccer mom accidentally switching on a boxing match and being like "theyre just hitting each other with big gloves" and " I dont understand, why doesnt he just knock the other one out?"
i just stated why but you dont want to listen.
if a guy believed he was a good boxer then he would become a boxer and earn real money would he not?
instead of punching cabbies whilst wearing motorcyle gloves and then roling around on the floor gayly
Your argument falls apart when, as ive already said, bums like Collard and Browne actually do move to boxing.
The mega paydays in boxing are concentrated on a pretty small amount of names. Ive never claimed that there are MMA fighters that could be elite top 10 level boxers. The better ones would probably be in the top 20-50 range at their weight and at that level the big money isnt there. So with that considered why would a guy thats fighting in the UFC give up his contract to make the switch?
And all this "gay" and "cabbies" **** is really underselling the technical nuances and skill level of MMA. You've already admitted you dont watch it or know the first thing about it on another thread though.
every mma "puncher/striker" that ever lived.
if they believed they were the real deal they would become boxers and earn real money.
instead of gaying around on the floor of the "octagon"
So basically you have no ****ing argument whatsoever and are talking out of your ass again. Imagine my surprise.
