Sorry if this a dumb question guys, but i've always looked at how different each guy would punch. I remember seeing bradley do padwork with hearns and hearns sort of taught him to throw the hook a bit different and he seemed to hit pretty damn hard compared to the normal hook he throws. That being said you can't teach an old dog new tricks, so he probably stopped.
Few guys in my gym i find throw each punch differently even with technique being somewhat the same. Some guys will slightly throw a bit of more of an arm punch to get speed or they will go through the whole motion too fast to really get in any "weight" from there body, while a guy like me goes through the whole motion of feeling the "weight" start from my foot to my right hand when i throw a straight.
Even at the pro levels, everyone throws completely differently, no one looks the same when really throwing the hook or a straight. Also weight distribution is something that really affects power.
What do you guys think? I honestly believe, yes it is genetics but technique and weight distribution really plays a much bigger factor than anyone thinks.
Both. Same as sprinting. Anyone can improve their running speed by applying good technique and training hard. There is a ceiling though that’s determined by genetics. No amount of training and technique is going to get you running as fast as Usain Bolt.
Yeah it’s a combination of the two.
Good analogy...
Power and speed is inherited but you have to work at it to make it work. Have you ever heard the saying punchers are born not made ? It's bone density that makes you have heavy hands but you have to work on timing and leverage. Speed, some people are born with fast twitch muscles which makes speed easy for them but they too have to work on technique like keeping punches straight working on combinations to improve their speed.

If a guy has slow hands he will never get fast hands but anyone can improve their speed, reactions and timing with lots of practice. Power is only natural to a certain extent. Power can be improved a lot by learning how to properly throw the different punches.I know this myself because as a kid I took lessons fro a pro boxer who showed me how to get power in all the different punches and throw them correctly. Rght away I was hitting the heavy bag much harder and I continued to try to prefect all the punches. Nobody is born with the knowledge of how to throw correct punches with snap and bodyweight behind the punches. No matter how much power a guy has naturally his power can be improved with proper punching form.
