I didn't see a thread for the article posted by Kevin Iole on Yahoo Sports regarding Alvarez's allegations in his lawsuit, some hilights:
1) Lawsuit was dismissed on technical grounds and Alvarez can resubmit by September 28.
2) Alleges that ODLH gave both Canelo and DAZN final right to approve opponents in separate contracts with each (DAZN contract on October 11 and Canelo contract on October 17).
3) When Canelo found out, he was furious and almost backed out because his contract didn't mention DAZN had the right.
4) In order to make the deal go through, ODLH personally guaranteed liability for DAZN's payments to Canelo. Canelo would most likely be seeking the money from ODLH and GB as opposed to DAZN.
Iole goes on to say that Canelo was also upset that ODLH used his deal with DAZN to secure a separate Golden Boy deal with the streaming service.
What's interesting is that Alvarez and DAZN don't actually have a contract with each other. They have separate contracts with Golden Boy and ODLH. Iole notes that the presence of the lawsuit allows Canelo and his attorneys to speak directly with DAZN. Without the lawsuit, if Canelo spoke directly with DAZN, Golden Boy could make accusations of "tortious interference*.
Reading between the lines, the lawsuit sounds like a means to sever his relationship with Oscar and GB. The fact that Iole states that the lawsuit allows Canelo to speak directly with DAZN infers that Alvarez may be open to dealing with the streaming service directly. Very interesting developments...
It’s funny Canelos mad because he thinks that GB used him (their only asset that’s kept the company in business for years ) To secure a separate deal with DAZn so maybe they dont have to solely rely on Canelo to keep the lights on. What the f.uck was he expecting when he decided to stay with GB. That GB wasn’t going To use the only Piece of leverage the Company has, to try and benefit the entire Company so they don’t have to rely on just him
The lawsuit isn’t surprising Just add it to the long list of times Canelos acted like a spoiled entitled baby when things don’t go his way
Honestly, I don't think there are any good guys in the whole dispute. There may not be any bad guys either.
Sounds like Golden Boy was doing everything in its power to secure the deals with Canelo and DAZN. Oscar and Alvarez already had a rough relationship but when someone is waving $35 million per fight over a 10 fight span, it's probably hard to turn down.
The deal would keep Golden Boy running and facilitate a separate deal to place their stable of fighters on a televised platform.
Who knows what Oscar and Golden Boy were promising to DAZN and Canelo separately.
the Nerve and balls of the Company that Was w
giving Canelo a 1/3 of a Billion Dollars to actually want some sort of final say in who he fights On their Platform
Dazn signed GGg thinking they had that assurance when they signed Canelo. Which would give DAZn The ability to be the platform that would broadcast Nelo / GGg which would be one if not the biggest fight That could be made at the time and would give Dazn the opportunity to get Hardcore / Casual / Non Boxing fans to become aware of DAZn and possibly become Subscribers while Dazn was in its infancy & trying to crack into the US Market
2 years since they’ve launched , Canelo has used all his leverage and done everything in his power not to fight GGg a third time , basically sabotaging the Company that cuts his cheque best chance at getting Awareness / Subscribers and chance of being successful in the US market when it started
Even if eventually the trilogy happens Canelos actions have Basically killed almost all potential buzz for The fight , Bith have basically disappeared from the public eye fighting on DAZn hurting both of their Brand awareness. Canelo has yet to choose a Opponet who can make fight a must watch event that generates Subscribers outside of his fanbase & GGg will probably be pushing 40 and will have fought opponents No one knows or cares about giving hardcore / casual / strictly GGg fans no incentive to sign up for DAZn to watch him fight or build momentum for a third fight
Canelo has the stones and feeling of entitlement to think his employers who’s he’s f.ucking over should be happy and give the thumbs up and hand over 35 mil for
a fight that even most hardcore boxing fans wouldn’t be interested in , watching Canelo face a 3rd tier No hoper With no fans so he can get a meaningless Vacant 168 Strap

Tbh with you there are different mindsets with PROS for style. I think Canelo is just having more fun as he normally would in sparring. Which unfortunately means just being more of a showman and taking risks. I like Fury because it’s perceived he’s doing wonderful stuff but that just sparring moves, and is the reason why he’s done a lot of mistakes in the ring and clipped, again, risk taking. I like Josh Kelly tbh. I hope he continues that style, but if we recall in the Olympics Kelly was more responsible to secure points.
That’s why I don’t think much of showmen. Those are just sparring traits, really loose, in the pro setting.
I think the ATG sparring showmen was Hamed. But when you’re in with a real one things won’t play out the same
Just watched some Josh Kelly highlights. Not much precedent for the hands down waving like a blade of grass in the wind defence to get you to the tippy top though. But that’s why its interesting I guess. 26yrs old has 11 fights, going the distance lately, has a MD. Does he have the talent to really try to be a top guy or does he need to be a showman to stay relevant? It’s fine if that’s the case, get yours. He’s not on my radar. If he hes that good I’d like to see him do the things good fighters do and that’s not eff around. But it’s also prize fighting and he can do it his way. But it’s hard to pay him much mind. Lots of local boxing stars in the UK.
If you’ve followed Canelo since the beginning then you’d know he has changed styles dramatically. Since GGG 2 he’s now more comfortable walking guys down or staying in the pocket with the high guard. A Floyd trait. He is also loose with a low guard like Charlos with shoulders high. Charlos are also counter punchers. Point is, what is there not to like about Canelo. He does what most elites are still trying to achieve. But Canelo haters cry scorecards or criticize opponents. You can do that every single fighter if we wanted to, so the difference is who you’ve fought and how you performed. Canelo hard key gets benefit of doubt from detractors which is rather silly
Canelo is the Pope. I think he’s done nothing but keep improving which one of his most impressive traits. He used to be a bit heavy footed, and he would step back and reset after throwing combos. But now his footwork is much improved, and like you said his in the pocket work is amazing. Im so impressed with his head movement and how he picks off punches with his high guard. He’s calm and collected in there. Like I just said in another post, I just wish I could see him against a SRR, SRL, Hagler. Those would be tough fights. What odds would you put on those? Would 40 punches a round cut it? Maybe it would? But all I’m saying is I hope it wouldn’t and we’d get to see an even better Canelo. Heck I’m Canadian and I think he’d beat Beterbiev. What do you think of that fight? I’m no Canelo hater. I wouldn’t want my favourite fighter ( Morales btw ) or any fighter to get a win or lose I didn’t think they deserved. I picked Canelo to mop Kovalev. I’m a huge fan. Like most people I think he wins easier vs GGG in a third fight and I don’t need to see it. But it’s not like the first two fights weren’t close though. I just want to see him in a brutal fight and push harder than he ever had to and win to cement his legacy even more. I’m not a fan boy that I want to see him do the least to win. I want to see him pushed to his absolute limit. For a fighter that is still improving I don’t think we have seen it. It will take one hell of an opponent. May never happen.
Thing is you might find someone with that mindset but once they get countered with those heavy thudding shots all of a sudden they start throwing less.
Some guys you can do that but with others they just won’t let you.
Your totally right. I’m hard pressed to imagine how good a fighter would have to be to overcome Canelo, or do it early enough that he’d have to change things up or really step up the volume. Kovalev seemed scared to death of him all night and rightly so, it was over in a blink. Counter punches hurt the most and they lower the opponents output. But there’s also the SRR, SRL, Haglers that have existed. If ggg can have two close fights with Nelo imagine what they could do? SRL had stroke and he could come at a guy and really pour it on. Canelo couldn’t out style him. Clean counters are great but if your only throwing 40 punches backing up, is that enough to beat a SRL? I’d just love to see him in a fight where his best so far isn’t enough is all. And yes I know it would probably take an all time great. I think he’s kept improving which is amazing. But he’s got a draw and a close win with ggg for perspective.
These aren’t volume punchers. They are counter punchers, like Floyd, looking for mistakes. You expect every boxer to be like Figueroa Jr?GGG and Dervy both average throwing over 800 punches a fight. Good hard punches.
These aren’t volume punchers. They are counter punchers, like Floyd, looking for mistakes. You expect every boxer to be like Figueroa Jr?You are on here morning, noon and night. Do you ever sleep or even take a nap? Are you a vampire?

I don’t expect it!! That’s why
it would be refreshing and exciting to see a fight develop in a way that you didn’t see coming. I’ve followed Canelo since the beginning, I know what he is, and what he does well. All I said is that I’d love to see Canelo in a fight that pushes him out of his comfort zone. He may never have to do that because he’s that good. But sometimes a slugfest breaks out that we didn’t see coming and we love it. What’s wrong with wanting to see someone push Canelo so hard that his usual pace and tactics arent cutting it? I mean almost everyone loses at some point. If a fighter is losing and all they do is exactly what they have been doing that’s not that exciting. We all yell at the screen asking for more or something different, you do to. You would have loved to have seen Floyd dropped or cut or behind so he would have had to change up his style to try and win. If he could have who knows, but it woulda been great to see. I don’t expect squat. But everyone would love to see a fight where Canelo has to do things differently. That’s my whole point, it’s fun to see the unexpected. Maybe he will always be 40 punches a round win lose or draw, but nothing wrong with hoping someone pushes him to be more dynamic.
Yup hopefully he doesn’t sit out for too long.
My brother has been saying for a long time that Canelo will lose his first after turning 30. Sometimes he just likes to stir the pot, but he knows his boxing. I’d love to see Canelo in a real hellacious fight. Even if he had to throw 50,60,70 punches in a round it would be great to watch. I’d like to see someone push him into another gear, if he’s capable.
Nobody can be surprised that things ended up here. I hope Canelo gets cut lose, and he just makes his own fights and the chips fall where they may. At least the PPV buy rates will show his popularity in real time. I know he’s been fighting since he was 15 so I’m sure he doesn’t mind being out and enjoying his money and lifestyle, but seeing a guy in his prime on the shelf really sucks.
