watch Haney and R.Garcia finishing their careers as MWs in 10 years
Garcia won’t make it past 140 before being exposed as a bum.
Haney passes the Eye test but I question his mental toughness.
It’s a combo of the first 2 posts.
1 is his unhealthy eating habits. After being broke and being able to eat and drink whatever, whenever caught up to him.
Duran admitted and anyone tbh at knows boxing knows he ain’t lying. He was drunk all through the Hearns camp and once Hearns landed, all that liquor rushed his skull and he was knocked out cold.
2. As one of the greatest ever his skills carried him through the higher weights.
Same thing happened to Camacho who was also great but as he moved up, not so great.
Duran is still hands
Of stone and if Haggler showed
Him Respect at MW, his punching power was no joke.
Because Duran is that dude, he was able to move up so many weight classes (without catchweights or peds) because he was so sublimely skilled and intelligent.
Boxers are free to fight at any weight they want to fight at and they and nobody else decides what weight they fight at. Duran was never really naturally bigger than a small welterweight. He was just very good and could often beat good fighters bigger than himself. If Duran does not want to take the weight off and fight at the weight he should fight at that is his choice. If Duran had stayed at 140 or 147 he would have had an even better career with much fewer loses.
Duran was probably a natural welterweight. However, after the Leonard win the partying got out of control. He began to balloon up in between fights. He was way too small for middleweight but Duran was such a naturally gifted his fighter and was able to hold his own with Hagler and have the final great win of his career against Barkley.
Science can probably answer that. And He was relatively short for MW, but as far as size goes, it's if you can make the weight you're good. There's no height restrictions for weight classes.
Dwight Muhammad Qawi at 5'5" and look how high he fought. Didn't he fight at LHW, CW and as high HW?
Mike Tyson was a relatively short HW at 5'10".
Also, how old was Duran when he debuted in pro boxing, 16?
Personally, from 16 to 30 years old, I grew 30lbs, and I did not get fat or anything like that. I was an average looking 16 year old, skinny/lean. Now with 30lbs added at 31, I am still lean.
Also, looking at his body, he wasn't necessarily shredded or anything like that. So it looked like he trained more on boxing skills rather than going down in weight and draining himself to get an advantage. I think, at 160-168, he was probably fighting at the average walk around weight for people at 5'7". Yes height to weight ratio charts will say that 5'7" 170lbs is overweight but we all know that's exaggeration. Someone can be 5'7" 170lbs and look fit and muscular, not fat.
Just my two cents.
A penchant for fast food. Apparently he liked his food fried until everything be the same uniform shade of golden brown, and he didn’t want you to pat it down because the grease would be helping it slide down his hatch more easily, he once said that ‘drive thrus on the other side of the road be teasing me’ a religious man with a diet being the one true sin
