Two great fighters but numbers don’t lie. Many of you keep talking about cherry-picking and what not. It looks like Floyd fought fighters when they were at their best according to the numbers.
under rated by some and over rated by some
he did pick and choose when he fought people, that was very frustrating for fans i think, i mean just recall the pac stuff yrs ago, they should have been forced to fight ufc style, no excuses, my opinion of course
While I agree with you break down, and you did speak some truths..You embellished a lil on the padded rec comment..While I do think he did not fight some big fights at their proper time..He did still fight some of the biggest names in the sport and dominated them..
Where would you rank him all time??
Personally i think it's tough to rank people all time so I don't. There are too many weight classes and too many good fighters. There are also different eras too.
I think Floyd was the best of his generation but TBE? Not in my opinion.
There are a ton of asterisks for me that surround Floyd and to me his antics outside the ring speak louder than what he did in the ring.
Id rather a tough fighter who has some losses but fought everyone over Floyd. Take Duran as a good example of someone like that.
Or maybe take a look at what Lomachenko is doing right now at 135. It would be pretty tough to argue that he wasn't the best in every division he was in at the time and he's fighting everyone.
Im a legacy guy but businessmen always find a way to con you and that's who Floyd was. I dont discredit the names on his resume but we can't pretend theyre the best version or even a good version of themselves.
Take Canelo vs Kovalev for example. Sure, Canelo was moving up in weight but was a crazy 4 to 1 favorite. Kovalev was just cashing out and no where near his prime self. Yet, Canelo fans pretend like they beat the undefeated Krusher.
Cotto in 2013 was not the same dude as Cotto in 2006. Things like that.
Numbers and data can be easily used to cherry pick statistics. Who do you think produced the stuff I keep seeing copy and pasted? Was it a Floyd fan?
Yeah, Floyd has a pretty good resume but that's it. It's padded.
Floyd did never fought the best available competition and was way more PR than truth. As great as he was he never challenged himself yet proclaimed himself the best.
Read the bold
Now understand that Mayweather never fought the best when they were their best and instead chose to pick on these fighters years after the fight should have taken place.
Take a look when he was at 140
Tzsyu
Cotto
Hatton
Were the best available but Floyd is on record not wanting any of them. He called Gatti a paper champ yet decided to fight him for his title and then pretended like he was some all time great.
Sure. I think Floyd could have beaten these guys at 140 but he didn't.
Hatton was undefeated and his best weight was 140. But Floyd forced him to move up to 147. Was Hatton his best?
Cotto was undefeated and a KO artist but Floyd waited years and let cotto go through wars before facing him. Was Cotto his best?
Tszyu was at the top of 140 yet Floyd didnt want to fight him and he eventually lost to Hatton.
Who did Floyd fight at 140?
And that extends to a lot of other names too. Was Pac his best in 2015 or would he have been better in 2009? Did he need those 2lbs against Canelo?
How about when he fought OLDH and barely won despite a lot of people not quite agreeing with it and then subsequently retire so he didnt have to fight a rematch.
And that was only to again retire because he didnt want to fight the current welterweights only to come back once they all beat each other?
I agree he has a good resume but did he fight the best when they were the best? NO

I think Floyd gets a lot of credit tbh, anyone who would say anything to negative must have an agenda..Floyd imo is a top 6 of all time, and he is consistently put in the top 10..So I think he's right where he should be..
