40+ old Povetkin in terrible shape, knocks old cold top 5-6 contender, 32 old?
Klitschko beat the same Povetkin 7 years ago.
Only Fury is probably good there, others are all very average. Joshua is probably like Bruno 2.0.
Could be Michael Grant was better than Wilder.
been saying it for ages, this generation is weak. Prime Kltichko would beat everyone and even he wasn't that great if im honest.
None of these guys would be champion in Ali's era despite their physical size advantage

Could be Michael Grant was better than Wilder. It's highly unlikely. Fury would be the next U.K. Champion to fall. Just wait and see. This Heavyweight era is like a merry-go-round.

Whyte is rubbish and always has been and was overrated by casuals. Povetkin is still a good fighter. A good small man will beat an average big man.
By casuals? And of course by rating organisations containing people who have spent their professional lives in boxing.
Where did you rank him? 15? 20? 50?
The era is extremely competitive, but the levels in performance are low.
May I just add? Povetkin is 6"3 220 pounds 'And he has just banged out a super-heavyweight' too many people these days, so easily get carried away with super-heavyweights 'most of them are out of condition'.

People seem to say that about every era so my question is which eras have actually been good? The 70's? The 90's? has every era in the history of boxing been bad?
I ask because every dominant champion gets the "weak era" label, and then when there's parity we say it's a weak era because there isn't a dominant champion.
The Michael Grant comparison to Wilder is all nostalgia. A prime Wilder would line Grant up with the right hand and knock him out, plain and simple.

No it is clearly not. Klitschko was a big champ, beating prime Povetkin easily. Povetkin was done as a true contender after Wladimir beat him.
Now past prime Povetkin still hangs around knocking out top 10 guys.
How are we defining each era? Are we talking 2000-2010 vs. 2010-present? I need to know that before I really dig into this topic.
Yes, I believe era is not very strong, because I have seen prime Povetkin hiding and fighting guys like Huck, Wawrzyk..while waiting Klitschko fight...
But now, past prime old Povetkin comes forward to all top contenders..
Or you actually think 40 old Povetkin is better than 33 old was?
Well he proved that even at 40 or 41, he is still a force to be reckoned with in this division. Maybe the heavyweight division isn’t as strong as say the 90’s or 70’s, but this heavyweight division has shown to be consistent and has a better level of talent than the 00’s. We are probably in the third or fourth best heavyweight era ever.
If there's a dominant HW people say the era is poor because there's no depth.
If there are a few then people say it's poor because there's no great champion.
We have three incredible, huge athletes at the top. And plenty of contenders who can pick one of them off.
The only shame is that they don't fight each other enough, but then people forget that they didn't do that in the 90s either.
You think this era is poor? Have you seen the last era of heavyweights? Freakin John Ruiz hugging his way to a title belt. We are in a good era. A strong era with lasting personalities and talents.

Could be Michael Grant was better than Wilder. It is not that great and not that bad either. Povetkin was in shape and Wilder is better than Grant ever was in my opinion and I saw hem bot fight many times. The retired boxers get better every year after retirement in people's minds as a rule. That just seems to be the way most fight fans think. I think Fury would be a top contender in any era.Maybe he would not be the champ but he would be at the top level.

This is a deeper era than the 80s. You really do post some nonsense sometimes.
All you do is bash Povetkin after one of the best wins of his career and a KOOTY candidate. If you don't want to watch fighters above 20 then don't. Your ignorant and uninformed takes on fighters in their 40s is tired and stupid. What will it take for you to learn that age isn't as significant as you make it out to be? Who cares how old Whyte was. He got caught with a perfect shot, and tremendous punch, almost any man goes down there. To argue otherwise is to fundamentally misunderstand boxing.
Your assessment of average is awful.
Fury
Usyk
Wilder
Povetkin
Hunter
Ortiz
Coffie
Ajagba
Helenius
All elite fighters who compete in most eras, especially Fury, Usyk, and Ortiz. All 3 are technically outstanding and have high ring IQ.
AJ
Ruiz Jr
Kownacki
Whyte
Miller
Arreola
All fundamentally sound, world class fighters who can beat anyone on a good night and prove a test to others in the division.
The HW division is on fire right now, people are watching and it has the attention of not only the boxing community but the casual masses now as well.
This is one of the better eras. Why people like to discredit I have no idea.
Go back in history and show me an era within the heavyweight division which didn’t include shocks or losses to the top end fighters?
There are many on here who massively underrated Povetkin on this forum but he is still a top quality fighter, there was clearly a question on his age. His performance against AJ, despite being knocked out - showed that he was still a good quality fighter capable of beating anyone in any individual night.
Despite what many would consider a top3 of Joshua, fury and wilder - there are others who can beat any of them with the right punch whether fans want to believe some are invincible or not.
You are right on the money. These are the biggest heavyweights in this era and they're not like the previous, uncoordinated, slow big heavyweights from the past. Even the highly regarded 70's heavyweight era with god-like stars like Muhammed Ali were beat by cruiserweight type fighters and small heavyweights. Many people thought Ken Norton should have gotten the nod against Ali 2 times. Nostalgia is a disease.
A fat, old Foreman maybe but he was still an absolute beast by any standards an in the nicest way possible a total freak of nature.
But yh lets not act like that is bad, embarrassing or something when you have a ****ing doorman becoming a HW titleholder in this era and someone so morbidly obese they get sponsored by Snickers ffs

Nah. When.two good guys fight each other one will lose - that doesn't mean he was crap.
Wilder fans wouldn't know this cos he fought chumps for years. Fury guilty too. We won't know how good Fury is till he fight AJ, Povetkin, Whyte etc.
Also, modern fans simply write off a guy after a loss or two - this is stupid and is an evolution of Mayweather's shenanigans picking and choosing opponents to preserve his 0.
Whyte is still a top guy, and measures up with any of today's top guys, where no better or worse than those who came before them.
