Whose brilliant idea was fighting another tough top 10 guy while "waiting" on championship shot?
That is what I am talking about all the time, Whyte is fighting top 10 contenders back to back, with no real intention to take a real world championship title challenge.
Now he paid a price because of that.

He picked himself with his fake half brother who never boxed.
I think it's a case of the belief in Whyte not matching his actual skills. Whyte was able to put together a really good string of consecutive wins and he was definitely deserving of a title shot that unfortunately didn't materialize. But despite all his recent accomplishments, he never looked like the guy to dethrone AJ and Fury (or even Wilder when he had the title) to me.

Mate, he got PPV money for fighting a 40yr old man he was expected to beat, he's not going to turn that opportunity down.

I presume it was his idea. Dillian is self-managed and a very headstrong guy.
Hughie Fury and Peter Fury are licking their chops. Parker got the title after beating Ruiz and Hughie put up a great effort (albeit in a boring fight) at such a young age against Parker (who went the distance with AJ) and Ruiz knocked AJ out. Hughie put up a great effort against Povetkin before tiring and went the distance, and Povetkin gave AJ trouble and has now knocked out Whyte. Pulev who Fury lost a decision to is now facing AJ. They gotta have insane confidence now.
Hughie v Whyte would be a better fight than Tyson v Whyte, which would’ve been a mismatch.
Hughie and Dillian are probably about similar level.
Povetkin and Parker couldn’t put a dent in Hughie, but one knocked out Whyte cold and the other had him gone in the 12th. Povetkin actually caught Hughie with solid shots at some points and never wobbled him. His beard is solid.
Him v Dillian would be a good fight for both next year.
yes i was shocked when he was fighting the russian, maybe we should applaud him for it, it was a good fight ad n he did well in it too, pov can bang he's strong, whyte can beat him though if he's a bit more switched on
I applaud him for having a fight like this when he has a mandatory set, but honestly I said it before the fight - He was stupid for taking this fight. You have to be smart in this business (Sport?). His matchmaking needs to improve... And he needs to get a manage, self managing and boxing isn’t a good thing.
Let's not pretend he got his ears boxed off and it was a bad mis match..
He was in control of the fight but one major floor in Whyte is that he's so predictable and leaves himself open far too much.. which is why he isn't a top boxer...
A top boxer wouldnt have allowed Povetkin to recover like that, let alone keep playing the same tune for Povetkin to read and then pop him one...
It was a good set up and he was totally underestimated by Whyte imo... Although if he has aspirations for titles, he gotta be beating these guys...
Why didn`t he fight Joshua last year than? That would be a true challenge for 3 belts.
Why taking a challenge fighting top 10 contender, when you don`t even have to?
Because Joshua was busy with Ruiz? Fury was busy with Wilder.
Whyte could either fight bums or take on meaningful fights against others who challenge him. He was doing extremely well vs. Povetkin and got caught with one punch. No shame in that. He'll come back stronger.

The issue isn't him fighting Povetkin, the issue is why the hell is there a rematch clause in a fight which switches who is the mandatory challenger for the WBC world title. This is the level of ****housery from Eddie, the guy is a complete scumbag.
Who advised Whyte to fight Povetkin?

... Povetkin was supposed to take some money and comply... well... he ain't...

Fans complain about bum fights but then criticise boxers taking tough challenges?
