I got into Boxing back around May 2009, which was a bit after De La Hoya retired. So i've only heard about Oscar looking old facing Pacman, and his career as a promoter. He is sometimes berated as a promoter for not taking the rights decisions, I think that sometimes make me think that people think negatively of him overall.
But I have heard since I joined boxing about how Pacquiao and Mayweather are 2 great boxers, both are certified future ATG's and will get into the Boxing Hall of Fame without a single doubt. I was wondering was De La Hoya looked on as in the same class as them in his prime, plus did he get the same amount of respect? He did win titles in 6 weight divisions after all!
Was Oscar De La Hoya seen as being on the same level as Pacquiao and Mayweather in his prime?
Dude called me out like I was lying and yet has all this bs excuses.
He said Floyd beat Oscar EASY. I just want to see his scorecard after he called me a casual.
You right he won't ever show so I'm wasting my time. Im out my bad.
Yeah bro you're trippin :lol1: He didn't say Floyd beat Oscar easy. At least not in this thread, you said he said that
Yes in his prime he was rated extremely high.
He beat some good boxers moving up in the lower weight classes. I think besides Tyson, and Roy Jones. He was one of the most popular boxers when I was a kid.

I think he fought the most Number of fighters who tested positive for steroids or had been busted in some form of cheating throughout their careers , ( Titos handwraps , vargas roids , mosely roids , mayorga roids . He also Fought much higher level of opposition than floyd and manny . Very underrated fighter who fought everybody
Delahoya was also on PEDS.
- -Why U PED expert?
Low testosterone?
That's normal for an athlete like money may and beside money may was always tested by the USADA and he's 100% clean.

Was Oscar De La Hoya seen as being on the same level as Pacquiao and Mayweather in his prime? It would depend on who you ask. He was a huge money maker and very popular. i thought he was very good but never as good as Mayweather or Pac. I thought Trinidad deserved his win and sturm beat him and got robbed. Winning belts in different weight classes as a young boxer outgrows weight classes is not nearly as important to me as how good a boxer was at his best weight and Oscar's best weight was 147. He was excellent at 147 but not as good as either pac or Mayweather in my opinion.
He was larger than life then; Oscar De La Hoya was. No one ever came close to him in generating the kind of revenue at the live gate and pay per view buys other than perhaps Mike Tyson. He was A side all day and everyday.
He used to give his opponents only 10-20 percent of the purse splits. In addition, he drove a very hard bargain where he wouldn't budge on the guarantees or the percentages he gave his opponents either.
In other words, he was very inelastic when it came to Boxing economics 101.

He was called the golden boy for a reason, he was a great fighter, he beat Tito at 147 (don't care about bs judges).
He was beating Floyd till he gassed out, he always fought the best, even if he couldn't win (BHop fight), Oscar was a great fighter, despite the losses.
It is funny that Mayweather gets criticised for not fighting Margarito. Yet history remembers De La Hoya as someone who fought everybody.
I remember when Cheato was calling him out. He fought Pacquiao which was seen as a cherry pick at the time.

I think he also beat Mosley. And got robbed by the judges. He lost to whitakker and sturm.
Oscar was big really big, they didnt call him the Golden Boy for nothing, he was the tail where old school met the modern era and he opened that door for the likes of Floyd and Manny, that along with social media and the internet allowed them to get massive on a world wide scale, the internet is the real game changer.

Now homie using EXCUSES and reading palms and sht. We got a boxingscene Psychic!
I should ask him what lottery numbers I should take this weekend???
What? ...???... You're trippin', homey.
Yes he did. But I always believed that Floyd's father did that to spite Floyd because their relationship was in a bad place at the time.
Yeah. That was probably the case. I remember Floyd saying, "There is Rodger Mayweather and only Floyd Mayweather, Sr., which is me!" Something like that ... although, I always thought that Floyd's dad didn't like his overly defensive style, thinking it wasn't judge friendly. But you're probably right that he did it because they were fighting.
