Well he has to start somewhere. Gamboa would be the biggest name on his Devin Haney's young resume. Anything less than a stoppage would be a considered a major fail because "This Cyclone from Guantánamo" is a cherry pick opponent for Devin Haney.
Haney coming off his own injury and not his best performance, not sure what he's done to think Gamboa is all that bad of a fight. I'm terrible at keeping up with rankings though, this fight probably makes no sense in that regard....yup, just remembered Haney somehow got a belt and this would give a shot to Gamboa LOL
Anyway, I like him as a prospect but I think he lacks that true cat like reflex needed for that style, he tries to look it but I'm not sure yet. Needs to tighten up his shots as well, they come wide, could be where the injury happened.
Probably just me being a degenerate and wanting to see this how he moves and reacts vs Gamboa, guess that could be accomplished via sparring vids or something.
The reason I don't think this is a bad fight is because both guys are actually coming off injuries and surgeries if I'm not mistaken, which if you think about it, is quite rare in boxing. I think Haney's reach and greater mobility will be the difference.
To be fair, Haney has been literally begging for fights and can't land anything.
Yeah he's going to have interesting mandos after this so it ain't that bad
Smh *♂️, No need for this fight. Keeping that 0 has really change the game of boxing. The only thing that makes this fight interesting is if Gamboa manages to pull off the upset, meaning we would have to watch the fight that most don’t really want to see.
Fight Felix Verdejo that would surely be a better and more interesting fight considering they are both younger up and coming hungry fighters
At least Gamboa has some accomplishments in pro boxing, unlike Campbell. Better fight for Haney. Not sure he can beat Gamboa. Haney neither has the power or the skills to keep Gamboa honest.
Devin Haney has declared that he's started negotiations to potentially defend his WBC lightweight title vs Yuriorkis Gamboa next.— Michael Benson (@MichaelBensonn) July 22, 2020
Fuuuuuuuuuccckkk!!!!!!!Gamboa is old and washed up. How many times has he been KOed and once by a guy who was no good. He was a huge cherrypick for Tank. So that makes him even more of a cherry pick for Haney fighting him fresh off a KO loss to Tank. Apparently getting KOed earns you a title shot these days.
I know a number of guys will return in tune ups so this is expected. Not exactly a fight I care about but any chance to watch Haney show off his skills is good post COVID-19.
