'I want to control boxing' - Eddie Hearn
Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn has his critics but you can't question his ambition.
With several governing bodies and multiple belts in each division, Hearn told IFL TV that his aim is to completely takeover the sport.
"The drive for me now is to control boxing. To control the sport globally and have a single entity running boxing like the UFC," he said.
"If you want bet against me, you will see. I am the man for the job, I'm the only one that can do it."
The UFC is only as big as the fighters. Without the fighters there is no UFC.
If someone like DAZN set up a rival series and offered the top guys 2-3 times they money that the UFC is paying them with no crippling clauses, you watch how they start feigning injury and defecting.
It'd still be on a streaming service that nobody wants. Did you see the DAZN numbers even for AJ/Ruiz 2? they were hyping it up as a major success when it drew 1.8m viewers across its 9 markets that have a combined population of nearly a billion people. Their service is just not catching on and looks to have a very shaky future. They already have the rights to Bellator as well, and it doesnt seem to have benefitted either party.
Not a chance. The UFC is a ****ing behemoth with huge brand value. DAZN most likely wont exist in 5 years.

Boxing will NEVER be run like a club sport like the UFC.
Hopefully Hearn just takes himself out of the sport, or do his promotions in the UK, promoting their local fighters.
It will downsize the participation levels in the sport 'It will destroy the sport'.
People in boxing need to stop idolizing the UFC.
DAZN could sink UFC if they really tried hard enough

Same. I prefer a good boxing match but whatever anyone says about the UFC or Dana White, the best fight the best or they get cut/stripped of their title. Obviously some guys gets preferential treatment but they have to fight top contenders still (other than the odd money fight).
For sure, if it's a good match I get hyped. I've been a boxing fan for 23 years and love the art.
UFC just delivers and Dana doesn't put up with chit! They be like, you can't have events and he finds a way lol.
He's a boss.
It's why I have more interest in UFC. No ducking.

The best part is, more often than not the fighters fight at their level. If you need touch me up fights in the pro-ranks then in my opinion, you shouldn't have turned pro. I'm sick of seeing 5-0 guys fighting the guys who have no hope in hell, yes there will be times when an upset happens but most of the time its just the same old predictable outcome.
Pretty much. I can't remember who it was cause I was a bit medicated and just watched the ufc fights. Boxing came on and the main was a Mexican dude that had a bunch of wins and the other dude had like 8. I was like wtf why am I even watching this. On top of that the vet threw so many low blows I just turned it off and said fuk it.

i dont mind 5-0 guys fighting mismatches.....yeah the upsets are rare...but they do happen and often those kids are just that still "kids" growing into their bodies.....plus the pro game is much different and its an adjustment....as loma found out early
what i hate is the twice a year fighters who are top level taking a tough fight then a soft touch between another tough fight and then another soft touch....i accept its how it goes...but it stinks
im a wilder fan and i have no excuses...fury beat him up....but theres no way we should have had to wait that long for that rematch
stuff like that annoys me more than the 5-0 guys taking their time....although now i think youre starting to see the younger guys like garcia, haney, shakur etc starting to ramp it up quicker than some of their predecessors
i had to edit...because i didnt realize garcia and haney were already at 21 and 24 pro fights already at age 21...thats pretty wild to me actually....i thought they had less
i commend hearn...he has/had big ambition...
he has a prime asset in boxing in AJ...and he had DAZN and the warchest behind him...i believe he thought he could conquer america....just not that easy
im not sure if he was just posturing or he really believed he could throw money at guys like tank davis to come over to fight farmer...or charlo to come over to fight andrade......but i didnt believe it would ever really work
It's why I have more interest in UFC. No ducking.

Would be good to see that happen to boxing, but realistically I don't ever see boxing ever getting to that point. Would do a lot of great for popularising the sport further and it would reduce the amount of **** fights we see champions take.
I'll say this, boxing doesn't necessarily need to become like the UFC what it needs is ONE belt, that's it... You're either the champion or you're not. This would remove the idea of people thinking, well I'll just fight for this title because this other guy looks too difficult to beat. It would actually have people properly clambering for a title shot... I also doubt this would happen as well, but more realistic than boxing becoming like the UFC.

Great for fans, bad for fighters. At least the best fight the best in the UFC, no-one can take that from them.

:lol1: he’s hilarious.
in less than two years, went from “we got the bank” to “we gotta regain control, it’s out of hand now” :lol1:
Funny how it works when it's not their money :lol1:
