Why didn't Shannon Briggs vs David Haye take place, I have these past days been watching videos of Shannon Briggs chasing that fight, what stopped it from coming to fruition?
Haye didn't want it. His body was shot and he'd likely have gotten KO'd by a 45 year old man. And even if he had won, he wouldn't get any credit due to how old Briggs was. It's a lose/lose.
Briggs opposition in his late career was terrible. I cant remember if he was a mandatory for Vitali or if he talked his way into it.
He was hilarious chasing Wlad and Haye around for fights and he got super jacked for a while in his late career but he was fighting club fighters while chasing the big names so if they wanted to avoid him, they had an easy excuse, he was very unproven but still high risk just due to his experience and power.
Haye pulled out of many fights and looking back he might have known he would lose to the bigger guys.
Tyson Fury would of been sparked out by David Haye 'At the time they where scheduled to fight' Fury would be up and down like yoyo in the fight.
Haye got an injury if I remember right, Haye pulled out of many fights and looking back he might have known he would lose to the bigger guys (Fury and Briggs), Bellow wasn't a heavyweight and put it on him.
Because Briggs was an unranked bum beater who had not beaten a fighter rated even in the top 50 for years and did not deserve a big fight. Briggs liked to skip the part where you earn a big fight by beating good fighters. Instead he wants to beat a few unranked nobodies and yell let's go champ a lot and be rewarded a nice payday he did not earn or deserve. Haye would have beat the hell out of washed up old Briggs and it would have done nothing for his career.
Haye fought a dude who learned how to box from youtube

I think either Haye got another injury that stopped him fighting that September, or he knew the game was up and even a 45 year old Briggs was too big a risk as he tried to con his way to a world title fight. Maybe a combination of both.
At the time I thought Haye might still have something to offer but actually when you put together:
1. Adam Booth not backing his decision to come back
2. backing out of a fight with Briggs
3. the fact that he was clearly so shot in the Bellew rematch that there's no way he couldn't have already known it
That all screams out cash grab. tbf he made silly money in the Bellew fights and got the chance to show the kind of heart and guts that I think a lot of people didn't think he has.
It all worked out for The Champ in the end anyway. He probably got a nice little payday for beating up that guy on Haye's undercard and ever since has been able to make a career running around the world enjoying himself and never having to take another punch.
I actually think Briggs would have won. Briggs had a good chin and Haye’s body would have fell apart after 3-4 rounds.
What a circus fight that would have been. :lol1:
