Twenty years ago, proud Mexican-American boxer Fernando Vargas suffered a damaging twelfth-round TKO loss to hard-punching Puerto Rican Felix Trinidad at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Would Vargas have beaten Trinidad if Trinidad didn't hit Vargas with low blows? On the night they fought, would Vargas have won if Tito fought clean?
After a bad first round, Fernando came back and knocked down Felix! The momentum was on Vargas' side. Trinidad responded by hitting Vargas with a low blow. The shift in momentum was back on Trinidad's side.
Do you think Vargas could have and would have defeated the devastating puncher Tito if it were not for the low blows and questionable hand wraps of Felix Trinidad?
Oscar De La Hoya said to Vargas, "Trinidad will do anything to win."
Vargas claims a man warned him about the hand wraps of Trinidad during a press conference in Puerto Rico.
Opposing trainer Naazim Richardson found something wrong with Trinidad's hand wraps before the Trinidad-Hopkins fight. Felix' hands had to be rewrapped after Richardson inspected them and saw something illegal with them.
Is Felix Trinidad shady? Think about it.

The poll results have nothing to do with what we’re debating.
Whether or not you think Trinidad would have beaten Vargas if the low blow didn’t happen happened has nothing to do with how good Vargas’ win over Wright was.
As I noted your OPINION is bullshyte just like Vargas decision over Weight was.
Even if you thought Wright deserved the decision over Vargas, you scored it 115-113. It was a very close fight.
Wright wasn’t top anything pound for pound because none of the big names would fight him. Vargas has the balls to fight Wright and won. Wright’s next big shot came against Mosley. He shined and became a top three pound for pound fighter.
Wright was 39-2 entering the Vargas fight. His losses were to 50-1 Julio Cesar Vasquez in 1994 and a very close loss to a two division undefeated champion in Harry Simon.
Also, Wright handed Trinidad his second loss. So until that fight, Trinidad wasn’t viewed as shot. In fact, it was a super fight.
So let’s not pretend Wright and Trinidad changed so much after they fought Vargas.
Wright would be a better win because he’s bigger than De La Hoya and arguably better even without the size difference.
Because of that, it would clearly be more impressive to pull off a win against Wright than winning against De La Hoya.
Let’s just look at their common opponents, it proves it’s harder to beat Wright than it is to beat De La Hoya.
De La Hoya won a very close and somewhat controversial decision over Ike Quartey. Winky Wright won 9 or 10 rounds against Quartey.
De La Hoya knocked out Vargas after a back and forth fight. Wright lost a controversial decision to Vargas.
De La Hoya lost both his fights against Shane Mosley, the second one was very close and somewhat controversial.
Wright outclassed Mosley in the first fight and won the second fight by close decision. It was not controversial though.
De La Hoya lost a close and controversial decision to Felix Trinidad. Wright won every round against Trinidad.
De La Hoya was beat up and knocked out by Bernard Hopkins at middleweight. Wright lost a close and controversial decision to Hopkins at light heavyweight.
Thank you for your OPINION, most of which is bu!!shyte. The poll tells you all you need to know.

I would have smashed Both..made you become a man....ifear God.
Nope... Tito moved UP to 160 and and fought better talent like Hopkins.
Let's not get simplistic.
Fact is ROIDED Vargas had glass for a chin.
Lil Shane who once fought at 135 KOd his ass TWICE.
Vargas needs to understand he was a B level hero.
147 to 160 is not a big jump for a power puncher to bring his power with him Duran at 135 had power at 160 but than of course he didn’t load wraps
No excuses but Vargas had a tough year. Winky - Quartey - Trinidad. No cream puffs there. So all things considered Vargas performed good vs Tito. But he was in with a heavy puncher and he did take nutshots and yeah, that fight ruined him. Harsh but true. Should’ve spaced out those guys over two years not one.
Again, if Trinidad is so much better, how did Vargas beat top 3 p4p fighter Winky Wright when Wright shut Trinidad out?
It really bothers me that people ignore that win and focus on Vargas’ losses to Trinidad, Mosley and De La Hoya. You could argue that if any of those three beat Wright, it would have been the best win of their careers.
You're full of shyte. Most thought Winky absolutely deserved the decision vs Vargas and at that time Winky wasn't a top anything p4p. The versions of Winky and Tito were much different than the versions that fought Vargas. If Tito would have beaten Winky, in what world would that have been a better win than DeLaHoya?
People coming with the “Trinidad was on another level“ or “Mosley KOed Vargas” narratives completely forget that Vargas beat Winky Wright. Wright outclassed Mosley and Trinidad and was a top 3 p4p fighter. How was Vargas able to beat Wright if he’s so average?
And most boxing insiders thought Winky deserved the decision over Vargas.
I think Vargas fought Tito too soon. Richardson and Hopkins already explained that what Tito did with the wraps wasnt illegal. Hopkins said that his right hand was swollen from blocking Tito's left hook even after the re wrap. As far as the low blows, Tito injured his eye in the 3rd round and kept trying to hit Vargas to the body. Vargas was never the same after that fight.
Where did he say that? Got a link?
Trinidad would always beat Vargas. He beat the hell out of him and would do so if they fought 10 times. He was just a much better fighter, end of story. Vargas had a foul cup and he was given recovery time. Vargas only won a round or two of the 12 and he fought a rough dirty fight holding with one hand while hitting with the other. Sorry but the much better man won. Vargas was very good but Tinidad was an all time great.

If you were a boxer you would want a guy like Naazim Richardson in your corner, he caught two bad hand wraps. And every time he catches them he goes in on them and makes them rewrap like two more times just to get in their head for revenge.
