Aleksandr Gvozdyk decided to finish his boxing career. Manager Egis Klimas says that Gvozdyk wants to spend all his time for his business.
Some ukrainians believe Gvozdyk has medical problems which make it harder for him to box at elite level... considering he has never been an elite.
Whichever is the true reason this decision was taken in a mixed reaction where some felt pity to not see him boxing while another part felt happy to not see him boxing after his blatant commentary about Russia-Ukraine war.

Very surprising! He hasn't fought a lot and is still young. Not sure why he can't combine 'business' with an occasional 500k payday from boxing. I smell medical issues.
To deserve a rematch against Beterbiev he has to get a belt first. Beterbiev won't fight him if he doesn't have a belt. I believe Gvozdyk is done
I’d rather see any boxer drop out of the game intact than not
If he mentioned it , well where there is smoke there is fire , just to say
Whether he deserves it or not is anther debate
I agree though that I think he’s done with the sport and hopefully won’t comeback for that payday if he’s not 100%
That’s what I heard also
But he’d be willing to comeback to fight Beterbiev
Not sure that would be the wisest thing

There are rumours that Gvozdyk has health problems. A fight against Beterbiev took much from him I'm afraid

Yeah, it's strongly hinted at in the article, which has kinda got my curiosity whiskers tingling, but no suggestion of what the issue might be. Either way I think it's fairly clear Artur just has his number in the pros as he did in the ammys.
Anyways, much as I love watching these guys do their stuff it also always makes me happy when they get outta the sport intact and with some kinda plan or career after boxing.
Takes a big man to know when to quit
Imo , Gvozdyk is a very talented fighter who most likely has a lot of contribution left in him but at what cost
Not chitting on the guy , I never would on any fighter , but seems like a very odd decision
Ffs he’s the 2nd or 3rd best fighter in the light heavy , youjust don’t give that up out of the blue
I think it’s pretty clear that something is definitely wrong
Gvozdyk has not been in many wars , still legitimately young
Hes retiring but willing to comeback for a big payday vs Beterbiev
If nothing is wrong then Artur took his soul and he will be beaten again and easier

You'll be missed champ. Gvozdyk was a great addition to the LHW division, and I still reckon he'd be 50/50 with Bivol and favourite against anyone else not named Beterbiev, but if he got business interests outside the sport then best of luck to the dude... No point in losing more brain cells than you gotta.
Thanks for the good times Champ. :boxing:
