Maidana said that the Victor Ortiz fight could have ended in round 2. He said after the second knockdown, he didn’t know where he was. He said that he didn’t even have his guard up because he felt like the fight was going to end. Luckily, the bell saved him. Still to this day, Maidana says that Ortiz is the biggest puncher he ever fought.

What do you think would have happened if Ortiz fought Koltelnik instead and Khan fought Maidana for the interim?
I think Khan got really lucky in seeing Ortiz fighting Maidana to come up with his own game plan. No one knew how dangerous Maidana’s power was until he fought Ortiz.
Khan was at the fight, i saw him taking pics with fans after the fight, heard him say both guys were bad dudes, a hard nights work for him he said.
Ortiz would have beaten Kotelnik on points in USA, Maidana arguably beat him in Germany earlier that year, close fight but i had Maidana 7-5.
Khan in 09-10 was the much more skilled than Maidana, When they did fight in late 2010, Khan was more suited to the weight, was in his best shape and Maidana was pretty much just looking for wild hooks, later on in his career he set up his attack much more intelligently, feights, jabs to the head and body.
Khan would not have fought him at 140 in 2009 in his first fight at that weight, he only fought him a year and a half later because he had to or be stripped of the title. Main reason he went to 140 in 2009 was because he saw Kotelnik has an easy stylistic match up and a easier route to a world title.
Khan vs Maidana at 147 a few years later i am convinced Maidnaa gets him out of there, just a much smarter fighter, he would have landed easier and more. Even at 140 against the less skilled version, he was getting tagged plenty, that first round bodyshot probably won him the fight, took a bit out of Maidana.
Khan vs Ortiz would have been fun, drama and action packed fight more than likely.
I was at this fight live, it is the hardest i have heard punches, especially the thudding shots from Maidana.
Ortiz lost 3 rounds in a row and was getting battered, he might have been ahead on points but he wasn't going to win.
Quitting after being dropped yet again just denied us a proper stoppage, it was coming for sure.
Ortiz did well to bounce back to win a title and get the floyd fight but his career since has been a disaster.

A Classic HBO fight , it was a summer fight too I remember watching this live ahhh memories. Maidana was supposed to come in as cannon fodder as they were grooming ortiz into the next de la hoya but maidana spoiled the show.
Doesn't matter if that's true, here are two more facts:
Ortiz is one of the biggest quitters in boxing.
Maidana is levels above Ortiz and only second to Floyd in that era of WW.
It does matter. One punch changes a fighter completely. Victor Ortiz rightfully deserved the Andryi Koltelnik fight at 140 pounds, but the WBA robbed him of the opportunity and gave it to Khan at his first fight at 140. I feel that because Khan knew what to expect from Maidana, he was able to beat him. Ortiz was the sacrificial lamb at 22 years old and that Maidana fight might have ruined him permanently.
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
please buy yourself a new brain
Nah that was the toughest one sided fight you'll see, he buzzed Floyd with both head and body shots, Burton even when hit knew how to move his head in time to not get hit cleanly full impact, and Floyd had issues here as he there 4 kitchen sinks out there that fight.....
Burton/Augstus kicks this fundamental less generations ass.....He had the true Floyd blueprint, which is Chin, and keep throwing with him, Cotto chin failed him here, and he was able to fight Chino off...The thing is you open yourself to a career threatening ass whooping from Floyd giving so; watch the Cotto fight the other day with Cotto being carried to the locker room with knots all over his head stumbling....
He was not Floyd's toughest.
Floyd's toughest was always Emmanuel Burton.
A tough fight is measured by how many CLEAN punches you're taking. Floyd took his fair share against Mr. Augustus. Maidana didn't land much clean in comparison.

I bet Pac is mentioned a lot in threads that aren't about him also if at all relevant.
Are you saying ortiz might have beat floyd i f Floyd didn't suc ka punch ortiz? Ortiz was turning it on
Yoooooooo lmfao.
You gave a good response then turn around and said thay BS...lmfao
Oh lord..... Why is Hugh Grant talking about Floyd in a thread that has nothing to do with him.
Lmao...... Atleast he consistent with that nonsense.
But yeah Ortiz would have won if he didn't fold, the guy was winning the firefight but couldn't mentally keep up

Ortiz is a hell of a puncher and he really hurt him. Maidana's gameness and heart pull him threw a rough time. Maidana is a born fighter and Ortiz might have really been something if he had Maidana's mental toughness and determination in the ring.
I think he's serious, he pulled back on the comeback date lined up months back as he wasn't ready, went back to the gym and kept on pushing.....Rather than try to rush for a Manny fight which Haymon were pushing, Chino trying to be the best Chino if he does come back, so this cant all be about the money....Even though his eye is on the money if he do comes back(Manny, Canelo, and GGG who he has sparred and held his own)
Depends on which weight, but if he looking for a easy touch to make noise
160- Munguia
154-Jared Hurd
147-Kell Brook/Jesse Vargas
I liked and enjoyed Chino
Hopefully he is determined and focused
I think it said much that his first attempt backfired
Props to him as long as he’s not here just to lose brain cells
So what’s your conclusion with this comeback ?
Who do you throw in with Chino ?
Really curious

You are the one selling nostalgic thoughts......Truth is Maidana last looked prime, way after Khan looked his best days....:boxing:

Just saying I just can’t see him making any waves
I see your point , respectable
But if he came short before , can’t see him getting off the couch and gaining success
Sorry , I just don’t see it
And honestly , they are selling nostalgic thoughts
Some will get suckered in hence the gambling contrast
This is what I would call a suckers bet ; he comes back to beat a name ( passed or like a Broner ) and everybody gets in on it
Then pfffffffff
He loses to the big dog like it was supposed to be
Can’t bullchit a bullchitter unless you truly sell it

Yup....He lacked technique only wanted to inflict pain
Off eye that Garcia Chino was elite as they come, he couldnt miss with his jab on the low, deceptively quick as hell as well.....Mayweather put his leaping left hook in his holster the latter half of his career, and you had Chino setting one up with body jabs, and perfectly catching Broner who was one of the best damn defensive fighters in the sport by numbers then, smack dab in the middle of the ring....Chino wasn't no fluke and even coming back off the couch he is not to be slept on, even if he's lost a level or two, he still neck and neck with this no great welter(excluding old Manny) generation IMO
I just worry about the age and inactivity, plus all the weight he has gained. I’d love to see him back to his best but I think it’s somewhat unlikely.
Maidana beat floyd in first fight so even though historically ability wise maidana isn't much.more than a footnote, he does in eyes of many have a win over Floyd as does castillo, Pac and dlh.
Pity Floyd didn't give Pac and dlh rematch and nelo. These would be Floyd s biggest rivals
Truth Be told Floyd would've gave Oscar, Nelo, and Manny rematch before, before he gave Chino a 3rd match.......Chino landed shots that would've slept any other Welter on Floyd and Floyd crying to his daddy in his corner he cant see......
-Oscar priced himself out, being a classic clown that he was, running, messing up boxing's and the 90s-2000s history and landscape consistently pricing himself out of must see rematches. Peple forget the chicken dela hoya articles; it's okay he didnt retain his golden luster in retirement.....
-Nelo got thoroughly manhandled from opening bell, you couldnt pay me to buy that fight 12-0 fight a 2nd time.....
-Manny tried to be slick; he knew everyone including Mayweather would want a second fight, off eye they both laid back and slacked off to preserve a fight two....Manny and his team thought Floyd was still too good at his age although slowed down and knew his next fight was scheduled in Sept; he came up with the shoulder escape to ruin Manny Floyd 2 in sept; hoping Mayweather would stick around to the next May to age him further...Very tactical but move misplayed.....:boxing:
