As is common knowledge, Canelo beat a number one contender Jacobs, GGG's best win of an entire career, in his first MW defence.
if canelo had defended against 20 MW nobodies and bums before beating his first top MW contender in Jacobs, would it have improved his MW career?
Or made no difference?
exactly !
the difference in demands/expectations was immense
fans were criticizing Canelo when he was 19yo, same with Chavez
Canelo and Chavez were BOTH copping the same flak
" they will never step up... they will never win a world title "
that is what was said repeatedly on this site
Golovkin... fans literally rolled out the red carpet for him... expecting superstars to immediately bend to his every whim, despite the fact that boxing has never worked that way... and happily accepting his absurd excuses to continually select no-hopers
bread is good at the preparation aspect of boxing, but not the business side

Good boxers are rarely liked when they are active.
Remember, "The Greatest", Muhammad Ali, was also hated to death when he was active. His hate came from various avenues (racial, stance on war, etc) but still, there always seems to be some reason for fans to hate a good boxer. And they hype up mediocre boxers, it seems like this way of thinking makes some fans feel superior. Like they know more boxing if they do not like good boxers and hype up lesser fighters.
Canelo would've been considered a protected fraud and would've never come close to sniffing a P4P list unlike GGG who people were already calling one of the greatest middleweights ever before he even fought Jacobs.
Look at the abuse he got when he was a teenager or in his twenties. The only time the nerds and hipsters were on his side was when he fought Floyd who is probably the most hated fighter of all time.
GGG is just one of those fighters who had all the support of the internet, media members and of course HBO. That resulted in a crazy cult like fanbase who didn't care about his resume and overrated everything he did. He was considered different in comparison to the stereotypical representation of boxers who were popular in the US, and all the hipsters especially in the media gravitated towards his story. GGG is the epitome of a media darling
Canelo was getting savage insults from fans even when he was 19 years old. People didn’t like when he beat Matt Hatton for the WBC 154 title, but are fine with GGG getting a title by beating Nilson Tapia.
Same people who hate Canelo are also okay with Devin Haney getting a vacant WBC 135 title literally without fighting anyone for it.
Lots of double standards but in the end, people hate Canelo because he is very good and he turned out way better than his detractors predicted. I remember GGG was supposed to KO him in under 6 rounds in the first fight.

The only reason GGG gets a pass or adored is because of character. Many people gravitate to the quiet types because it represents themselves and GGG is the alter ego they wish to be for what he can do in the ring opposed to character... Once upon a time GGG’s career and hype revolved around the Stevens’ presser. I guess they liked the image of an Eminem (Clothing) type whom comed off as “nice” and soft but serious in the ring...and was a perfect bed time story to beat the “types” that Stevens represented. I mean, imagine how Steve Kim summarized that whole promotion to the victory. Same with Rafael... both Rafael and Kim hated Broner types because of character.... so of course that’s how GGG’s image was pushed.
Then Loeffler and HBO thought it was a bright idea to sell GGG as a “Mexican” and come up with phrases. Then you have guys like Steve Kim whom would troll and cry that Cinco de Mayo wasn’t even a “Mexican Holiday.” Imagine people saying “Black History Month doesn’t make sense” or “I mean who cares about South or North Koreans they are all the same.” That’s the type of attitude Kim would come across.
So as we can see much of the Canelo hate doesn’t stem from theories that he was protected by GBP with judges being arranged by Oscar (supposedly), so how is that any of Canelo’s fault? He just goes to fight and his skills will carry on with time. That’s how you rate it, and the performances, technique, are so good that to bring up judge theory every time is just stupid, as if it’s easy to do what Canelo does.
Conclusion: animosity towards Mexicans. That’s all it is. Be it debt from Chavez with Taylor or Whitaker... every fan base has a chip over their shoulder against Mexicans. And funny to hear Mexican fans talk shet about Canelo while cheering Marquez when they are in the same conversations with other fans saying Marquez is a steroid abuser...
Mexicans are an interesting force.
Yes I think the Mexicans that got wrapped up in this whole Canelo hate thing don’t realize the damage they did by supporting ggg just cuz they didn’t like Canelo

oh I didnt mean any harm, just taking truths and posing hypotheticals. thanks.
Canelo wouldve been tormented to no end as a fraud and CHERRYPICKER and hiding behind his promoter Bop.
But because it's some Asian white Muslim he gets a pass. "Okay"
And BTW the broadcast team of Showtime had Jacobs beating GGG. There shouldve been a rematch but Gennadyovich Muslim :arabia: wanted no part. Just like when Dervenchenko whooped that boi
oh ok thank you for your opinion.
