Former unified 122 pound champion, Danny Roman, is now a network free agent. His last three fights he was featured on DAZN as he had signed a co-promotional deal with Matchroom Sports. "Right now, we're in the process of seeking new opportunities," said Alex Camponovo of Thompson Boxing, which handles Roman. In his last bout on January 30, Roman lost the WBA and IBF titles in a razor thin split decision against Murodjon Akhmadaliev in Miami.

I was actually hoping he would get a rematch with Akhmadaliev eventually so this is a bit of a bummer. But Roman is a good fighter that brings it so best of luck to him!
Stevenson is another guy that will be moving up soon so unfortunately I don't ever seeing the Navarette fighting happening at 126.
Fulton vs Vargas is possible for sure and you can throw in Nery in the mix. I believe Fulton said he wants the WBO belt first though. And he should soon be the mandatory.
Vargas is huge for sure and uses his size as an advantage at 122. Won't have the same advantage going up so I see him at this weight for at least a few more years.
Was gonna say I could see Arum pulling the same sh** he pulled with Loma> Valdez> Stevenson at 126. He loves a vacant WBO title.
I could see Navarrette vs Shakir Stevenson being a big fight in the next few years.
I quite like that Fulton kid, looks a solid contender, wouldn’t be surprised if we get Vargas vs Fulton as they’re both with PBC now I think.
Vargas is huge at the weight too.

He won't be there for long. Just looking at the WBO rankings, I see Stephen Fulton is the #1 ranked challenger for that organization and Roman is the #1 ranked challenger for Vargas' WBC title. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out but Navarette will soon be at 126.

I don’t know how that guy makes 122 tbh.

Roman was only on for another fight CO-PROMOTED with Matchroom. He doesn’t have a belt, so I doubt Eddie would worry if Thompson Boxing wants to go elsewhere. If Roman still had a belt it’d be the same thing as Bivol co-promoted with Matchroom
So they are basically not gagged/bound by a contract, it’s good for the boxers and promoters. He is free to work with whomever he sees fit. As long as he stays active them whoever he is with is irrelevant. Have seen a lot of “Free agents” who aren’t really free in around boxing.

i find that odd. he mustve wanted to leave. he’s not expensive and he’s one of the guys that was part of their big launch in 2018. unless they didnt think he was worth the tiny investment
I guess he isn't returning to DAZN or Matchroom:
The DAZN and Matchroom are not interested in real fighters like Danny. They want fighter that pick and choose their opponents. Their broadcast team critiqued Danny for taking the fight with MJ.— Eddie G. (@Eddiecrossroads) May 27, 2020
yes, that relationship is over...— Steve Kim (@StevESPNKim) May 27, 2020
That would be ideal but unfortunately not possible for many.
He is a great fighter, one door shuts and another one opens. He is free to offer his services to others. Their loss....

Takes one loss and they let him go. A former unified champion. I used to get mad at Arum because he made moves that looked like he dumped fighters for taking an L. Same thing here. I hate that. They're fighters, they fight. Sometimes they lose ffs. You keep a guy like Roman.
That sucks. Dumb of Hearn to not keep Roman around. He's a real talent and always fun to watch. There was some debate here on whether or not Akhmadaliev even won that fight, a rematch would have been bad ass.
That’s now bad decision number 4377327746555 by Hearn since the US “Takeover” began. :lol1:
He may end up going back to Hearn, who knows. But either way, Roman is a badass and I'll be watching regardless.

I like boxers who are actually free, those who can fight on any networks without anyone bounding or gagging them.
