How is this possible on this level of sport?
whats NSB's opinion on that fight?
Kovalev was shot. Why do you think Canelo fought him. Yard staggered him, E. Alvarez stopped him and E Alvarez only scored one knockout in his previous 5 or 6 fights. Even a light puncher like Ward knocked him the F-out.
So general consensus is that Kovalev was shot , he was not even moveing in the same way he did in Yarde fight , i understand that Canelo is not Yarde but he couldnt block Krushers feet , some poster said that he was over trained and thats why he looked like that , maybe its truth, but saying that fighters shouldnt fight back to back while some fighters fought 10 times a year or more is just not right.
Fixed as in he took a dive? No.
Fixed as in the cards were stacked heavily against him? Yes.
There it is.
He was moving strangely in the ring kinda like a cat burgler sneaking in the room. Hopkins did the same thing. I think they call it WASHED UP! Kovalev got knocked out in his last fight and Hopkins landed on the cement floor in his last fight. We can all agree that it wasn't the same version of Kovalev that beat the tar out of Hopkins when they fought.
Kovalev doesn't seem mentally engaged and, as a couple have said, he's "off" right now. If Andre Ward could hurt him and put him down then Canelo certainly can do the same or worse (as is what happened, predictably).
I am not sure if he's shot but something is wrong with him.
I think it's more likely that Canelo and co. got the word that Kov had lost his fastball...and in sparring etc they learned he wasn't the same dominating puncher he was...guys who would get hurt by him previously could hang in there and give him some decent work.
Canelo and co. then knew that they could go 12 rounds with Kov, and at worst get outboxed but would get the nod because there wouldn't be much action and it would be competitive...I don't think they necessarily expected the KO but probably thought it was a possibility based on Kov's stamina issues, diminishing punch resistance, and recent tough fight.
Hard to say it was 'fixed' when a guy gets KOed like that
Canelo didn’t need any fixin’ in this one
That’s why they picked Kovi
Further proof , Canelo dropping that belt as quickly as he got it
Kovi will just look even worse next time out
A fighter on decline
No way. Kovalev was clearly concussed. It was not fixed.
The actual KO was VERY REAL. The argument is Kovalev fought NOT TO WIN, but NOBODY debates the actual KO. That looked bad
A very suspect fight in my opinion because Kovalev who is famous for his power never threw what looked to be a hard fast punch with bad intentions. Kovalev the crusher became Kovalev the tapper. Canelo really did knock him cold with two very hard punches but kovalev never fought like a guy who was trying to win the fight. He must have known he needed a ko to beat Canelo in Vegas yet he never went for a ko. I can't prove Kovalev lost on purpose but it was a strange performance by Kovalev to me.
Yeah I'm torn between being over trained or under trained and being over cautious of counter punches.
It was a very odd fight. And not taking away from Canelo - a very real KO that was brutal, but something wasnt right with Kovalev.
He threw for speed the whole fight and just didnt have the killer instinct...dont think he had the instinct versus Yarde either, but as much as I dislike Andre Ward he was right when he said the "Kovalev that Canelo fought was different than the Kovalev that Ward fought"...that is true.
Take what you will from that...and I DONT think it was staged because it's too hard to stage a fight IMHO. I think dude was legit over trained. Theres a reason guys dont fight BACK TO BACK in their late 30s and Kova always had bad stamina, was chinny, and on the slide anyways.

At the time, I thought that he knew how shot Kov was and that it was his best shot at the title, but now I see how messed up his trainer/manager is so...
Lol
Sometimes the easiest route ain’t so easy
Yarde’s trainer is into some holistic bullchit lol
Doesn’t get better than that
Yup
Not sure if it was ego or what , but that was another option

In all honesty, Yarde is an idiot lol. He could have taken the step aside money, watched Canelo vacate and be fighting for the vacant WBO belt.

Yes big money
But Yarde refused it and wanted a crack at the title
Kovi had no choice but to fight Yarde , contract was already signed
