Thor Bjornnson just called out Eddie Hall to a fight in the ring. Fug Jerrell Miller these are the super heavy weights, would you watch this? On one hand I disliked it when the youtube zoomers did it but honestly I'd watch this, if only for the entertainment aspect. Oh yeah, Thor just lifted 501 kg off the floor, no big whoop.
They've set a date. It's a LOOOONG way off, so training and conditioning could really be in a different place by Sept 2021.

These two have been going back and forth for weeks now. For context: Eddie set the deadlift record for 500k (around 1100 lbs) in 2016. And Hafthor, "The Mountain" from Game of Thrones", just broke the record today with a lift of 501kg. BUT -- Eddie did his lift in a competition, and Thor is doing it from his home gym.
I think most people accept that Thor could do that lift in competition, and probably more than 501kg too. Eddie Hall says that he believes this to be the case.
The real beef they have is that Thor accused Eddie of cheating in the 2017 WSM.
Thor seems to be a bit of an ******* in real life. His cheating allegations look like just being bitter about losing, and don't make a lot of sense. He also has a few women who made domestic violence accusations against him.

So everyone's asking: does a record count if it's done outside of competition?
The problem is Strongman as a sport doesn't have one unified governing body, so there's no single authority to turn to. And Strongman has multiple world-class events: the Arnold Classic, World's Strongest Man, Ultimate Strongman. Their situation is not unlike boxing - boxing's alphabet titles make determining who is "the greatest" a murky affair at best.
As far a s fight goes, I would watch. I haven't seen Thor punching, but Hall seems to do it pretty regularly for cardio and he doesn't look too terrible. Thor's strongman career is still in its peak right now though, and there's no way I see him risking unnecessary injury when he's got titles on the line. But an exhibition/charity event? Yeah, maybe.
I kind of understand where Eddie Hall is coming from, in some sports 'Athletes train to peak for championships' and then they have to perform during the championships. I am sure that in 1996 Olympics, Linford Christie would of liked to reschedule the 100m final after being disqualified 'But he was disallowed this luxury, and lost his titles to Donovan Bailey'.
Thor Bjornnson has lifted 501 kg and broke Eddie Hall's record, but he has not done it under the same conditions. Hall was away from home, in a unfamiliar environment to a certain extent 'All of these things are what test the mentality of athletes' so I can kind of see why Hall is annoyed.
I think that 500 kg dead-lift is what probably influenced Hall's decision to retire from strongman, as he was in quite bad way from the after effects 'He held that 500 kg for quite sometime, before he was instructed that it was a good lift'.
Added benefit for Hall is that he can solely focus on boxing, now that he is not competing in strongman.
Am I living under a rock? I've never heard of either one of them.
The real big one was in Game of Thrones if that's something you'd watch. Otherwise why would you? . Strongman stuff's probably even more niche than boxing. I only really know about em cos worlds strongest man ihas been on UK terrestrial TV in the UK every Xmas and New Year forever and watching it kinda got to be a bit of a tradtion.
That's two big boys right there, but they'll quickly find that power lifting and strongman competitions the same as fighting... if I'm any judge that mass of muscle is gonna be more a liability than anything, and ain't really gonna give you special power either. Guess it's gonna be more a charity / celeb kinda affair anyway though, doubt they'll be really looking to hurt each other.
It could literally end in pass out instead of knockout.😂

I don't think most people have, unless they follow strength sports. Or in Hafthor's case, he's known from Game of Thrones.
Also, back in the day, Strongman competitions sometimes featured a "wrestling" component. I forget what exactly they called it, but it was like a little like sumo. No on-the-ground grappling that I recall. Just like, see who can push the other guy out of the ring. They dropped that event pretty quick though, as it wasn't really much in the way of strength-testing.
Also, I remember the strongman Mariusz Pudzianowski went into an MMA career after his years in strongman. (I believe he may have boxed a little before strongman, but I won't swear to that.) His first few fights looking pretty devastating - he still had the size from his strongman competitions at that point. Once fighters realized they could tire him out, though, the hype kinda wore off. Not sure if he's still fighting.

Thor Bjornnson from what I have seen? Seems to have slightly better punching technique. Eddie Hall's body also seems to be damage due to his strongman career, too bad he retired quite early from the game.
But since Hall's retirement, I expect in some areas he is in better condition such as 'Aerobic capacity' and in general just in a better place. The actual lifestyle of being a strongman was negativity effecting his condition over the long-term, mainly because most of the strongmen seem to just want to get massive these days.
