i'll start
since his name has come up recently and his place in history lets discuss and appreciate one of the greatest fighters of all time.
Walker Smith Jr. aka Sugar Ray Robinson
welterweight title defense vs. charlie fusari 5th defense
Ray used many counter uppers. Something we don’t see too often
A man who was able to watch Ray live irl said offense great like Floyd’s defense
Ray could get stupid torque on his punches moving in any direction sometimes his feet weren’t even planted
Gracefully gliding around the ring
he'd throw wide then cuff the short in close to impact, seems like thats where his sharpness came from
I can't lie, he seems real sloppy and drops his hands all the time while keeping his chin in the air
last fight with bo bo olson he is past prime in his 30s but you can see flashes of why many though he was the best theyd ever saw
Sugar Ray Robinson - The Bright Lights and Dark Shadows of a Champion is the best thing on him you can watch. It really shows you how great this guy was. Also gives you an insight into his life outside the ring. It’s a must watch for any hardcore boxing fan. I would post it but not at home right now.
As for what’s my favourite fight to watch? The Turpin rematch has to be up there. That guy was a monster in terms of strength and a great fighter at the time. Ray was cut and it would’ve been stopped but he stopped Turpin before that could happen. Ray was 129-1 at the time of their first fight. Crazy. That will never ever be done again.
What’s most amazing out of everything is that he said he never liked boxing. I think the Jimmy Doyle fight had a big impact on that. Although I think he might’ve said that even before the Doyle fight. Said he enjoyed out-thinking people but didn’t enjoy hurting people. You’ve got to respect that.
very special all around fighter, feel free to add a video

no fighter is perfect

Floyd often lifts his chin during an exchange thats why its best to punch with him, that one split second his shoulders arent in his built in defense....especially when he throws straight rights and lead left hooks....floyds chin is in the air......he did it more often in his pretty boy days and guys like Corely, Augustus clipped him
